With the exception of hw/core/, the hw/ directory only contains
device models used in system emulation. Semihosting is also used

These tests make sure we can boot the Xen hypervisor with a Dom0
kernel using the guest-loader. We currently have to use a kernel I
built myself because there are issues using the Debian kernel images.

Hypervisors, especially type-1 ones, need the firmware/bootcode to put
their initial guest somewhere in memory and pass the information to it
via platform data. The guest-loader is modelled after the generic
loader for exactly this sort of purpose:

The FreeBSD project has a number of enhancements to bsd-user. These changes have
evolved over the past 10 year, and aren't currently updated to the latest
version of qemu due to fluxuations in staffing causing us to fall behind in the
past. We're working on porting all the changes forward and contributing all the
changes back to qemu. Add myself as maintainer and Kyle Evans as a reviewer for
changes. In addition, add a pointer to our github repo in the interim while this
work is ongoing.

The SSE-300 has a new register block CPU<N>_PWRCTRL. There is one
instance of this per CPU in the system (so just one for the SSE-300),
and as well as the usual CIDR/PIDR ID registers it has just one
register, CPUPWRCFG. This register allows the guest to configure
behaviour of the system in power-down and deep-sleep states. Since
QEMU does not model those, we make the register a dummy
reads-as-written implementation.

There is new interest in the SD/MMC device emulation, so it

IOHUB object is added to manage PCI IRQs. It uses KVM_IRQFD
ioctl to create irqfd to injecting PCI interrupts to the guest.
IOHUB object forwards the irqfd to the remote process. Remote process
uses this fd to directly send interrupts to the guest, bypassing QEMU.

Add ProxyMemoryListener object which is used to keep the view of the RAM
in sync between QEMU and remote process.
A MemoryListener is registered for system-memory AddressSpace. The
listener sends SYNC_SYSMEM message to the remote process when memory
listener commits the changes to memory, the remote process receives
the message and processes it in the handler for SYNC_SYSMEM message.

SyncSysMemMsg message format is defined. It is used to send
file descriptors of the RAM regions to remote device.
RAM on the remote device is configured with a set of file descriptors.
Old RAM regions are deleted and new regions, each with an fd, is
added to the RAM.

PCI host bridge is setup for the remote device process. It is
implemented using remote-pcihost object. It is an extension of the PCI
host bridge setup by QEMU.
Remote-pcihost configures a PCI bus which could be used by the remote
PCI device to latch on to.

The microblaze kernel sometimes gets stuck during boot (ca. 1 out of 200
times), so we disabled the corresponding acceptance tests some months
ago. However, it's likely better to check that the kernel is still
starting than to not testing it at all anymore. Move the test to
a separate file, enable it again and check for an earlier console
message that should always appear.

add a new optional interface to CPUClass, which allows accelerators
to extend the CPUClass with additional accelerator-specific
initializations.
This will allow to separate the target cpu code that is specific
to each accelerator, and register it automatically with object
hierarchy lookup depending on accelerator code availability,
as part of the accel_init_interfaces() initialization step.

This will allow us to centralize the registration of
the cpus.c module accelerator operations (in accel/accel-softmmu.c),
and trigger it automatically using object hierarchy lookup from the
new accel_init_interfaces() initialization step, depending just on
which accelerators are available in the code.
Rename all tcg-cpus.c, kvm-cpus.c, etc to tcg-accel-ops.c,
kvm-accel-ops.c, etc, matching the object type names.

we cannot in principle make the TCG Operations field definitions
conditional on CONFIG_TCG in code that is included by both common_ss
and specific_ss modules.
Therefore, what we can do safely to restrict the TCG fields to TCG-only
builds, is to move all tcg cpu operations into a separate header file,
which is only included by TCG, target-specific code.
This leaves just a NULL pointer in the cpu.h for the non-TCG builds.
This also tidies up the code in all targets a bit, having all TCG cpu
operations neatly contained by a dedicated data struct.

I'm developing Qemu backup for several years, and finally new backup
architecture, including block-copy generic engine and backup-top filter
landed upstream, great thanks to reviewers and especially to
Max Reitz!
I also have plans of moving other block-jobs onto block-copy, so that
we finally have one generic block copying path, fast and well-formed.
So, now I suggest to bring all parts of backup architecture into
"Block Jobs" subsystem (actually, aio_task is shared with qcow2 and
qemu-co-shared-resource can be reused somewhere else, but I'd keep an
eye on them in context of block-jobs) and add myself as co-maintainer.

This allows gdb to access the target’s auxiliary vector,
which can be helpful for telling system libraries important details

The yank feature allows to recover from hanging qemu by "yanking"
at various parts. Other qemu systems can register themselves and
multiple yank functions. Then all yank functions for selected
instances can be called by the 'yank' out-of-band qmp command.
Available instances can be queried by a 'query-yank' oob command.

Currently the PPC UIC ("Universal Interrupt Controller") is implemented
as a non-QOM device in ppc4xx_devs.c. Convert it to a proper QOM device
in hw/intc.
The ppcuic_init() function is retained for the moment with its current
interface; in subsequent commits this will be tidied up to avoid the
allocation of an irq array.
This conversion adds VMState support.
It leaves the LOG_UIC() macro as-is to maximise the extent to which
this is simply code-movement rather than a rewrite (in new code it
would be better to use tracepoints).
The default property values for dcr-base and use-vectors are set to
match those use by most of our boards with a UIC.

Add Loongson-3 based machine support, it use liointc as the interrupt
controler and use GPEX as the pci controller. Currently it can work with
both TCG and KVM.
As the machine model is not based on any exiting physical hardware, the
name of the machine is "loongson3-virt". It may be superseded in future
by a real machine model. If this happens, then a regular deprecation
procedure shall occur for "loongson3-virt" machine.
We now already have a full functional Linux kernel (based on Linux-5.4.x
LTS) here:

The Nios2 architecture supports two different interrupt controller
options:
* The IIC (Internal Interrupt Controller) is part of the CPU itself;
it has 32 IRQ input lines and no NMI support. Interrupt status is
queried and controlled via the CPU's ipending and istatus
registers.
* The EIC (External Interrupt Controller) interface allows the CPU
to connect to an external interrupt controller. The interface
allows the interrupt controller to present a packet of information
containing:
- handler address
- interrupt level
- register set
- NMI mode
QEMU does not model an EIC currently. We do model the IIC, but its
implementation is split across code in hw/nios2/cpu_pic.c and
hw/intc/nios2_iic.c. The code in those two files has no state of its
own -- the IIC state is in the Nios2CPU state struct.
Because CPU objects now inherit (indirectly) from TYPE_DEVICE, they
can have GPIO input lines themselves, so we can implement the IIC
directly in the CPU object the same way that real hardware does.
Create named "IRQ" GPIO inputs to the Nios2 CPU object, and make the
only user of the IIC wire up directly to those instead.
Note that the old code had an "NMI" concept which was entirely unused
and also as far as I can see not architecturally correct, since only
the EIC has a concept of an NMI.
This fixes a Coverity-reported trivial memory leak of the IRQ array
allocated in nios2_cpu_pic_init().

block-export-add type=fuse allows mounting block graph nodes via FUSE on
some existing regular file. That file should then appears like a raw
disk image, and accesses to it result in accesses to the exported BDS.
Right now, we only implement the necessary block export functions to set
it up and shut it down. We do not implement any access functions, so
accessing the mount point only results in errors. This will be
addressed by a followup patch.
We keep a hash table of exported mount points, because we want to be
able to detect when users try to use a mount point twice. This is
because we invoke stat() to check whether the given mount point is a
regular file, but if that file is served by ourselves (because it is
already used as a mount point), then this stat() would have to be served
by ourselves, too, which is impossible to do while we (as the caller)
are waiting for it to settle. Therefore, keep track of mount point
paths to at least catch the most obvious instances of that problem.

This adds a very basic test for checking that we present devices
in a way that Linux can consume: boot with both virtio-net-ccw and
virtio-net-pci attached and then verify that Linux is able to see
and detect these devices.

This patch adds support the kernel-irqchip option for
WHPX with on or off value. 'split' value is not supported
for the option. The option only works for the latest version
of Windows (ones that are coming out on Insiders). The
change maintains backward compatibility on older version of
Windows where this option is not supported.

We deprecated the support for the 'r4k' machine for the 5.0 release
(commit d32dc61421), which means that our deprecation policy allows
us to drop it in release 5.2. Remove the code.
To repeat the rationale from the deprecation note:
- this virtual machine has no specification
- the Linux kernel dropped support for it 10 years ago
Users are recommended to use the Malta board instead.

This creates a model for PolarFire SoC IOSCB [1] module. It actually
contains lots of sub-modules like various PLLs to control different
peripherals. Only the mininum capabilities are emulated to make the
HSS DDR memory initialization codes happy. Lots of sub-modules are
created as an unimplemented devices.

The PolarFire SoC DDR Memory Controller mainly includes 2 modules,
called SGMII PHY module and the CFG module, as documented in the
chipset datasheet.
This creates a single file that groups these 2 modules, providing
the minimum functionalities that make the HSS DDR initialization
codes happy.

The watchdog is part of NPCM7XX's timer module. Its behavior is
controlled by the WTCR register in the timer.
When enabled, the watchdog issues an interrupt signal after a pre-set
amount of cycles, and issues a reset signal shortly after that.

The emulated nvme device (hw/block/nvme.c) is currently using an
internal Intel device id.
Prepare to change that by allocating a device id under the 1b36 (Red
Hat, Inc.) vendor id.

Add a LED device which can be connected to a GPIO output.
They can also be dimmed with PWM devices. For now we do
not implement the dimmed mode, but in preparation of a
future implementation, we start using the LED intensity.
LEDs are limited to a fixed set of colors.

I'm proposing that I split the actual Python library off from the other
miscellaneous python scripts we have and declare it maintained. Add
myself as a maintainer of this folder, along with Cleber.
I will be actively working to add CI style guide checks, strict typing,
and an actual package infrastructure to this folder specifically which
differentiates it from loose, miscellaneous scripts which are generally
maintained by other individuals with subject matter expertise.

Paul's Wavecomp email has been bouncing for months. He told us
he "no longer has access to modern MIPS CPUs or Boston hardware,
and wouldn't currently have time to spend on them if he did." [1]

The sheepdog mailing list is setup to stop and queue messages from
non-subscribers, pending moderator approval. Unfortunately it seems
that the moderation queue is not actively dealt with. Even when messages
are approved, the sender is never added to the whitelist, so every
future mail from the same sender continues to get stopped for moderation.
MAINTAINERS entries should be responsive and not unneccessarily block
mails from QEMU contributors, so drop the sheepdog mailing list.

I'm very often getting CC: on rather large patch series that
modify the ACPI stuff of either ARM or x86, just because the
bios-table-test is often slightly involved here. I can't say
much about ACPI, and the bios-table-test is already covered
by the ACPI section in MAINTAINERS, so I'd rather prefer to
not getting automatically CC-ed on such patch series anymore.
If people want my opinion about qtest-related changes, they
can still put me on CC manually.

Some objects accidentally inherit ObjectClass instead of Object.
They compile silently but may crash after downcasting.
In this patch, we introduce a coccinelle script to find broken
declarations and fix them manually with proper base type.

Over the years, most parts of exec.c that were not specific to softmmu
have been moved to accel/tcg; what's left is mostly the low-level part
of the memory API, which includes RAMBlock and AddressSpaceDispatch.
However exec.c also hosts 4-500 lines of code for the target specific
parts of the CPU QOM object, plus a few functions for user-mode
emulation that do not have a better place (they are not TCG-specific so
accel/tcg/user-exec.c is not a good place either).
Move these parts to a new file, so that exec.c can be moved to
softmmu/physmem.c.

While the FW_CFG_DATA_GENERATOR_INTERFACE is only consumed
by a device only available using system-mode (fw_cfg), it is
implemented by a crypto component (tls-cipher-suites) which
is always available when crypto is used.

This is a test for GDB reverse debugging commands: reverse step and reverse continue.
Every test in this suite consists of two phases: record and replay.
Recording saves the execution of some instructions and makes an initial
VM snapshot to allow reverse execution.
Replay saves the order of the first instructions and then checks that they
are executed backwards in the correct order.
After that the execution is replayed to the end, and reverse continue
command is checked by setting several breakpoints, and asserting
that the execution is stopped at the last of them.

refactoring of cpus.c continues with cpu timer state extraction.
cpu-timers: responsible for the softmmu cpu timers state,
including cpu clocks and ticks.
icount: counts the TCG instructions executed. As such it is specific to
the TCG accelerator. Therefore, it is built only under CONFIG_TCG.
One complication is due to qtest, which uses an icount field to warp time
as part of qtest (qtest_clock_warp).
In order to solve this problem, provide a separate counter for qtest.
This requires fixing assumptions scattered in the code that
qtest_enabled() implies icount_enabled(), checking each specific case.

Convert qemu-ga-ref to rST format. This includes dropping
the plain-text, pdf and info format outputs for this document;
as with all our other Sphinx-based documentation, we provide
HTML and manpage only.
The qemu-ga-ref.rst is somewhat more stripped down than
the .texi was, because we do not (currently) attempt to
generate indexes for the commands, events and data types
being documented.
As the GA ref is now part of the Sphinx 'interop' manual,
we can delete the direct link from index.html.in.

Some of our documentation is auto-generated from documentation
comments in the JSON schema.
For Sphinx, rather than creating a file to include, the most natural
way to handle this is to have a small custom Sphinx extension which
processes the JSON file and inserts documentation into the rST
file being processed.
This is the same approach that kerneldoc and hxtool use.

Implement a device model for the System Global Control Registers in the
NPCM730 and NPCM750 BMC SoCs.
This is primarily used to enable SMP boot (the boot ROM spins reading
the SCRPAD register) and DDR memory initialization; other registers are
best effort for now.
The reset values of the MDLR and PWRON registers are determined by the
SoC variant (730 vs 750) and board straps respectively.

We have an exploding complexity problem in the testing so lets just
move the more involved plugins into contrib. tests/plugins still exist
for the basic plugins that exercise the API. We restore the old
pre-meson style Makefile for contrib as it also doubles as a guide for
out-of-tree plugin builds.
While we are at it add some examples to the documentation and a
specific plugins build target.

This is an initial support for Microchip PolarFire SoC Icicle Kit.
The Icicle Kit board integrates a PolarFire SoC, with one SiFive's
E51 plus four U54 cores and many on-chip peripherals and an FPGA.

Unlike SiFive FU540, the RISC-V core resect vector is at 0x20220000.
The following perepherals are created as an unimplemented device:
- Bus Error Uint 0/1/2/3/4

- SYSREG
- MPUCFG
- IOSCBCFG
More devices will be added later.
The BIOS image used by this machine is hss.bin, aka Hart Software
Services, which can be built from:

To launch this machine:
$ qemu-system-riscv64 -nographic -M microchip-icicle-kit
The memory is set to 1 GiB by default to match the hardware.
A sanity check on ram size is performed in the machine init routine
to prompt user to increase the RAM size to > 1 GiB when less than
1 GiB ram is detected.

This started as a simple script that scanned for regular
expressions, but became more and more complex when exceptions to
the rules were found.
I don't know if this should be maintained in the QEMU source tree
long term (maybe it can be reused for other code transformations
that Coccinelle can't handle). In either case, this is included
as part of the patch series to document how exactly the automated
code transformations in the next patches were done.

Now that we can use all our QEMU test containers in the gitlab-CI, we can
easily add some jobs that test cross-compilation for various architectures.
There is just only small ugliness: Since the shared runners on gitlab.com
are single-threaded, we have to split each compilation job into two parts
(--disable-user and --disable-system), and exclude some additional targets,
to avoid that the jobs are running too long and hitting the timeout of 1 h.

The test is based on

demo which. If working correctly, prints 'ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWX' out.
it also demostrates that timer and IRQ are working
As the path name demonstrates, the FreeRTOS tests target a
board based on a ATMega2560 MCU. We have one, the Arduino
MEGA2560.

This is a simple device of just one register, and whenever this
register is written to it calls qemu_set_irq function for each
of 8 bits/IRQs. It is used to implement AVR Power Reduction.

These were designed to facilitate testing but should provide enough
function to be useful in other contexts. Only a subset of the functions
of each peripheral is implemented, mainly due to the lack of a standard
way to handle electrical connections (like GPIO pins).

move the vcpu throttling functionality into its own module.
This functionality is not specific to any accelerator,
and it is used currently by migration to slow down guests to try to
have migrations converge, and by the cocoa MacOS UI to throttle speed.
cpu-throttle contains the controls to adjust and inspect throttle
settings, start (set) and stop vcpu throttling, and the throttling
function itself that is run periodically on vcpus to make them take a nap.
Execution of the throttling function on all vcpus is triggered by a timer,
registered at module initialization.
No functionality change.
