e81f86790f qemu-timer: avoid checkpoints for virtual clock timers in external subsystems
Adds EXTERNAL attribute definition to qemu timers subsystem and assigns
it to virtual clock timers, used in slirp (ICMP IPv6) and ui (key queue).
Virtual clock processing in rr mode can use this attribute instead of a
separate clock type.

05ff8dc32f Revert some patches from recent [PATCH v6] "Fixing record/replay and adding reverse debugging"
That patch series introduced new virtual clock type for use in external
subsystems. It breaks desired behavior in non-record/replay usage
scenarios due to a small change to existing behavior.  Processing of
virtual timers belonging to new clock type is kicked off to the main
loop, which makes these timers asynchronous with vCPU thread and,
in icount mode, with whole guest execution. This breaks expected
determinism in non-record/replay icount mode of emulation where these
"external subsystems" are isolated from the host (i.e. they are
external only to guest core, not to the entire emulation environment).

Example for slirp ("user" backend for network device):
User runs qemu in icount mode with rtc clock=vm without any external
communication interfaces but with "-netdev user,restrict=on". It expects
deterministic execution, because network services are emulated inside
qemu and isolated from host. There are no reasons to get reply from DHCP
server with different delay or something like that.

The next patches revert reimplements the same changes in a better way.

93a972f854 slirp: Propagate host TCP RST packet to the guest after socket disconnected
Commit 27d92ebc5e handled the case where the TCP
connection is abruptly closed via a RST packet, by checking for the ECONNRESET
errno. However it does not consider the case where the connection has been
half-closed by the host (FIN/ACK), then the host socket is disconnected. For
example, if the host application calls close() on the socket, then the
application exits.

In this case, the socket still exists due to the file descriptor in SLIRP, but
it is disconnected. recv() does not indicate an error since an orderly socket
close has previously occurred. The socket will then be stuck in FIN_WAIT_2,
until the peer sends FIN/ACK or a timeout occurs. Instead we can send a RST
to the peer and transition to the CLOSED state.

3d090aefe2 slirp: fix ICMP handling on macOS hosts
On Linux, SOCK_DGRAM+IPPROTO_ICMP sockets give only the ICMP packet when
read from.  On macOS, however, the socket acts like a SOCK_RAW socket
and includes the IP header as well.

This change strips the extra IP header from the received packet on macOS
before sending it to the guest.  SOCK_DGRAM ICMP sockets aren't
supported on other BSDs, but we enable this behavior for them as well to
treat the sockets the same as raw sockets.

775a412bf8 slirp: fix ipv6 timers
ICMP implementation for IPv6 uses timers based on virtual clock.
This is incorrect because this service is not related to the guest state,
and its events should not be recorded and replayed.
This patch changes using virtual clock to the new virtual_ext clock.

09b94ac0f2 slirp: Correct size check in m_inc()
The data in an mbuf buffer is not necessarily at the start of the
allocated buffer. (For instance m_adj() allows data to be trimmed
from the start by just advancing the pointer and reducing the length.)
This means that the allocated buffer size (m->m_size) and the
amount of space from the m_data pointer to the end of the
buffer (M_ROOM(m)) are not necessarily the same.

Commit 864036e251 tried to change the m_inc() function from
taking the new allocated-buffer-size to taking the new room-size,
but forgot to change the initial "do we already have enough space"
check. This meant that if we were trying to extend a buffer which
had a leading gap between the buffer start and the data, we might
incorrectly decide it didn't need to be extended, and then
overrun the end of the buffer, causing memory corruption and
an eventual crash.

Change the "already big enough?" condition from checking the
argument against m->m_size to checking against M_ROOM().
This only makes a difference for the callsite in m_cat();
the other three callsites all start with a freshly allocated
mbuf from m_get(), which will have m->m_size == M_ROOM(m).

864036e251 slirp: correct size computation while concatenating mbuf
While reassembling incoming fragmented datagrams, 'm_cat' routine
extends the 'mbuf' buffer, if it has insufficient room. It computes
a wrong buffer size, which leads to overwriting adjacent heap buffer
area. Correct this size computation in m_cat.

47335eeea8 slirp/ncsi: add checksum support
The checksum field of a NC-SI packet contains a value that may be
included in each command and response. The verification is optional
but the Linux driver does so when a non-zero value is provided. Let's
extend the model to compute the checksum value and exercise a little
more the Linux driver.

See section "8.2.2.3 - 2's Complement Checksum Compensation" in the
Network Controller Sideband Interface (NC-SI) Specification for more
details.

b0060110aa slirp: Send window updates to guest after window was closed
If the receive window presented to the guest closes, slirp should send a
window update once the window reopens sufficiently, rather than forcing
the guest to send a window probe, which can take several seconds.

058665b9fe slirp: disable Nagle in outgoing connections
When setting up an outgoing user mode networking TCP connection,
disable the Nagle algorithm in the host-side connection.  Either the
guest is already doing Nagle, in which case there is no point in doing
it twice, or it has chosen to disable it, in which case we should
respect that choice.

This change speeds up GDB remote debugging over TCP over user mode
networking (with GDB runing on the guest) by multiple orders of
magnitude, and has been part of the local patches applied by pkgsrc
since 2012 with no reported ill effects.

990132cda9 slirp: don't zero the whole ti_i when m == NULL
98c63057d2 ('slirp: Factorizing
tcpiphdr structure with an union') introduced a memset call to clear
possibly-undefined fields in ti. This however overwrites src/dst/pr which
are used below.

So let us clear only the unused fields.

This should fix some rare cases (some RST cases, keep alive probes)
where packets would be sent to 0.0.0.0.

44b1ff319c migration: pre_save return int
Modify the pre_save method on VMStateDescription to return an int
rather than void so that it potentially can fail.

Changed zillions of devices to make them return 0; the only
case I've made it return non-0 is hw/intc/s390_flic_kvm.c that already
had an error_report/return case.

Note: If you add an error exit in your pre_save you must emit
an error_report to say why.

13146a8395 slirp: Add a special case for the NULL socket
NULL sockets are used for NDP, BOOTP, and other critical operations.
If the topmost mbuf in a NULL session is blocked pending resolution,
it may cause problems if it blocks other packets with a NULL socket.
So do not add mbufs with a NULL socket field to the same session.

e2aad34d73 slirp: Fix intermittent send queue hangs on a socket
if_output() originally sent one mbuf per call and used the slirp->next_m
variable to keep track of where it left off.  But nowadays it tries to
send all of the mbufs from the fastq, and one mbuf from each session on
the batchq.  The next_m variable is both redundant and harmful: there is
a case[0] involving delayed packets in which next_m ends up pointing
to &slirp->if_batchq when an active session still exists, and this
blocks all traffic for that session until qemu is restarted.

The test case was created to reproduce a problem that was seen on
long-running Chromium OS VM tests[1] which rapidly create and
destroy ssh connections through hostfwd.

1201d30851 slirp: fix clearing ifq_so from pending packets
The if_fastq and if_batchq contain not only packets, but queues of packets
for the same socket. When sofree frees a socket, it thus has to clear ifq_so
from all the packets from the queues, not only the first.

413d463f43 slirp: check len against dhcp options array end
While parsing dhcp options string in 'dhcp_decode', if an options'
length 'len' appeared towards the end of 'bp_vend' array, ensuing
read could lead to an OOB memory access issue. Add check to avoid it.

75cb298d90 slirp: Handle error returns from sosendoob()
sosendoob() can return a failure code, but all its callers ignore it.
This is OK in sbappend(), as the comment there states -- we will try
again later in sowrite(). Add a (void) cast to tell Coverity so.
In sowrite() we do need to check the return value -- we should handle
a write failure in sosendoob() the same way we handle a write failure
for the normal data.

0b466065eb slirp: Handle error returns from slirp_send() in sosendoob()
The code in sosendoob() assumes that slirp_send() always
succeeds, but it might return an OS error code (for instance
if the other end has disconnected). Catch these and return
the caller either -1 on error or the number of urgent bytes
actually written. (None of the callers check this return
value currently, though.)

In a fork_exec() error path we try to closesocket(s) when s might
be a negative number because the thing that failed was the
qemu_socket() call. Add a guard so we don't do this.

1b6e748246 migration: remove register_savevm()
We can replace the four remaining calls of register_savevm() by

4d43a603c7 char: move CharBackend handling in char-fe unit
Move all the frontend struct and methods to a seperate unit. This avoids
accidentally mixing backend and frontend calls, and helps with readabilty.

Make qemu_chr_replay() a macro shared by both char and char-fe.

Export qemu_chr_write(), and use a macro for qemu_chr_write_all()

(nb: yes, CharBackend is for char frontend :)

2e30230aa9 Fix total IP header length in forwarded TCP packets
When forwarding TCP packets, the internal tcpiphdr struct length was wrongly
used inside the IP header. This commit changes the behaviour to what is used
by tcp_output.c, using the correct full IP header + payload length.

47bb83cad4 slirp: add a fake NC-SI backend
NC-SI (Network Controller Sideband Interface) enables a BMC to manage
a set of NICs on a system. This model takes the simplest approach and
reverses the NC-SI packets to pretend a NIC is present and exercise
the Linux driver.

The NCSI header file <ncsi-pkt.h> comes from mainline Linux and was
untabified.

a2f80fdfc6 slirp: Send RDNSS in RA only if host has an IPv6 DNS server
Previously we would always send an RDNSS option in the RA, making the guest
try to resolve DNS through IPv6, even if the host does not actually have
and IPv6 DNS server available.

This makes the RDNSS option enabled only when an IPv6 DNS server is

bd5d2353aa slirp: tcp_listen(): Don't try to close() an fd we never opened
Coverity points out (CID 1005725) that an error-exit path in tcp_listen()
will try to close(s) even if the reason it got there was that the
qemu_socket() failed and s was never opened.  Not only that, this isn't even
the right function to use, because we need closesocket() to do the right
thing on Windows.  Change to using the right function and only calling it if
needed.

70f2e64e4d slirp: Convert mbufs to use g_malloc() and g_free()
The mbuf code currently doesn't check the result of doing a malloc()
or realloc() of its data (spotted by Coverity, CID 1238946).
Since the m_inc() API assumes that extending an mbuf must succeed,
just convert to g_malloc() and g_free().

4577b09a27 slirp: Check qemu_socket() return value in udp_listen()
Check the return value from qemu_socket() rather than trying to
pass it to bind() as an fd argument even if it's negative.
This wouldn't have caused any negative consequences, because
it won't be a valid fd number and the bind call will fail;
but Coverity complains (CID 1005723).

6ab3fc32ea hw: replace most use of qemu_chr_fe_write with qemu_chr_fe_write_all
The qemu_chr_fe_write method will return -1 on EAGAIN if the
chardev backend write would block. Almost no callers of the
qemu_chr_fe_write() method check the return value, instead
blindly assuming data was successfully sent. In most cases
this will lead to silent data loss on interactive consoles,
but in some cases (eg RNG EGD) it'll just cause corruption
of the protocol being spoken.

We unfortunately can't fix the virtio-console code, due to
a bug in the Linux guest drivers, which would cause the
entire Linux kernel to hang if we delay processing of the
incoming data in any way. Fixing this requires first fixing
the guest driver to not hold spinlocks while writing to the
hvc device backend.

that guests can also automatically boot via IPv6 with SLIRP
(for IPv6 network booting, see RFC 5970 for details).

e5857062a6 slirp: Remove superfluous memset() calls from the TFTP code
Commit fad7fb9ccd  ("Add IPv6 support to the TFTP code")
refactored some common code for preparing the mbuf into a new
function called tftp_prep_mbuf_data(). One part of this common
code is to do a "memset(m->m_data, 0, m->m_size);" for the related
buffer first. However, at two spots, the memset() was not removed
from the calling function, so it currently done twice in these code
paths. Thus let's delete these superfluous memsets in the calling
functions now.

5469feadb1 slirp: Remove obsolete backward-compatibility cruft
The slirp code does not use index() and gethostid() anymore,
so these parts can be removed without problems.
memmove() and strerror() should be available on each of the
supported platforms nowadays, too, so these wrappers are also
not needed anymore.
And we certainly also do not support Ultrix anymore, so no
need to keep the code for this platform anymore.

On Darwin, connect, sendto and friends want the exact size of the sockaddr,
not more (and in particular, not sizeof(struct sockaddr_storaget))

This commit adds the sockaddr_size helper to be used when passing a sockaddr
size to such function, and makes use of it int sendto and connect calls.

returns immediately with that error; since we use non-blocking sockets,

Samuel Thibault pointed out that it's possible that slirp_pollfds_poll()
will try to use a socket even after soread() returns an error, resulting
in an use-after-free if the socket was removed while handling the error.
Avoid this by refusing to continue to work with the socket in this case.

eaf136f9a2 slirp: Fix migration from older versions of QEMU to the current one
While adding the IPv6 support, the commit eae303ff23
("slirp: Make Socket structure IPv6 compatible") changed the format of
the migration stream, without taking into account that we might still
receive an old migration stream layout when upgrading from QEMU version
2.5 (or older) to QEMU 2.6. Currently, QEMU bails out when doing a
migration from QEMU 2.5 to the recent master version when it has
been started with a "-net user,guestfwd=..." network. So let's fix
this by checking the version ID of the migration stream and by using
the old behavior if we've detected version 3 or less.

67e3eee454 Avoid embedding struct mbuf in other structures
struct mbuf uses a C99 open char array to allow inlining data. Inlining
this in another structure is however a GNU extension. The inlines used
so far in struct Slirp were actually only needed as head of struct
mbuf lists. This replaces these inline with mere struct quehead,
and use casts as appropriate.

05061d8548 slirp: Adding IPv6 address for DNS relay
This patch adds an IPv6 address to the DNS relay. in6_equal_dns() is
developed using this Slirp attribute.
sotranslate_in/out/accept() are also updated to manage the IPv6 case so the
guest can be able to join the host using one of the Slirp addresses.

For now this only points to localhost. Further development will be needed to
automatically fetch the IPv6 address from resolv.conf, and announce this via
RDNSS.

9dfbf250d2 slirp: Generalizing and neutralizing various TCP functions before adding IPv6 stuff
Basically, this patch adds some switch in various TCP functions to
prepare them for the IPv6 case.

To have something to "switch" in tcp_input() and tcp_respond(), a new
argument is used to give them the sa_family of the addresses they are
working on.

This patch does not include the entailed reindentation, to make proofread

0d6ff71ae3 slirp: Adding IPv6, ICMPv6 Echo and NDP autoconfiguration
This patch adds the functions needed to handle IPv6 packets. ICMPv6 and
NDP headers are implemented.

Slirp is now able to send NDP Router or Neighbor Advertisement when it
receives Router or Neighbor Solicitation. Using a 64bit-sized IPv6
prefix, the guest is now able to perform stateless autoconfiguration
(SLAAC) and to compute its IPv6 address.

This patch adds an ndp_table, mainly inspired by arp_table, to keep an
NDP cache and manage network address resolution.
Slirp regularly sends NDP Neighbor Advertisement, as recommended by the
RFC, to make the guest refresh its route.

This also adds ip6_cksum() to compute ICMPv6 checksums using IPv6
pseudo-header.

Some #define ETH_* are moved upper in slirp.h to make them accessible to
other slirp/*.h

a2d96af4bb osdep: add wrappers for socket functions
The windows socket functions look identical to the normal POSIX
sockets functions, but instead of setting errno, the caller needs
to call WSAGetLastError(). QEMU has tried to deal with this
incompatibility by defining a socket_error() method that callers
must use that abstracts the difference between WSAGetLastError()
and errno.

This approach is somewhat error prone though - many callers of
the sockets functions are just using errno directly because it
is easy to forget the need use a QEMU specific wrapper. It is
not always immediately obvious that a particular function will
in fact call into Windows sockets functions, so the dev may not
even realize they need to use socket_error().

This introduces an alternative approach to portability inspired
by the way GNULIB fixes portability problems. We use a macro to
redefine the original socket function names to refer to a QEMU
wrapper function. The wrapper function calls the original Win32
sockets method and then sets errno from the WSAGetLastError()
value.

Thus all code can simply call the normal POSIX sockets APIs are
have standard errno reporting on error, even on Windows. This
makes the socket_error() method obsolete.

We also bring closesocket & ioctlsocket into this approach. Even
though they are non-standard Win32 names, we can't wrap the normal
close/ioctl methods since there's no reliable way to distinguish
between a file descriptor and HANDLE in Win32.

5379229a27 slirp: Factorizing address translation
This patch factorizes some duplicate code into a new function,
sotranslate_out(). This function perform the address translation when a
packet is transmitted to the host network. If the packet is destinated
to the host, the loopback address is used, and if the packet is
destinated to the virtual DNS, the real DNS address is used. This code
is just a copy of the existent, but factorized and ready to manage the
IPv6 case.

On the same model, the major part of udp_output() code is moved into a
new sotranslate_in(). This function is directly used in sorecvfrom(),
like sotranslate_out() in sosendto().
udp_output() becoming useless, it is removed and udp_output2() is
renamed into udp_output(). This adds consistency with the udp6_output()
function introduced by further patches.

Lastly, this factorizes some duplicate code into sotranslate_accept(), which
performs the address translation when a connection is established on the host
for port forwarding: if it comes from localhost, the host virtual address is
used instead.

This prepares for IPv6 support.

This patch replaces foreign and local address/port couples in Socket
structure by 2 sockaddr_storage which can be casted in sockaddr_in.
Direct access to address and port is still possible thanks to some
\#define, so retrocompatibility of the existing code is assured.

The ss_family field of sockaddr_storage is declared after each socket
creation.

The whole structure is also saved/restored when a Qemu session is
saved/restored.

This prepares for IPv6 support.

uninitialized socket is picked up when looking for matching and already

Fix this by checking that the socket is not just a socket stub.

Here we don't check the return value of malloc() which may fail.
Use the g_new() instead, which will abort the program when
there is not enough memory.

5f22b054f2 Increase maximum number of session of the internal TFTP server.
Grub fails to boot from internal TFTP server when loading more than
3 initrd files.

Grub first opens a session to the TFTP server for every initrd file and
retrieves only the file size for all.
Then it wants to download the content using the old sessions which are
already expired.

Increasing the maximum number of session of the internal TFTP
server avoids this issue.

The error message reads as following:
error: timeout reading
`/boot/ISO.ROOT/BOOTMGR'.

If slirp needs to emulate tcp timeout, then the timeout value
for mainloop should be more precise, which is determined by

efcb7e4529 slirp: Port redirection option behave differently on Linux and Windows
port redirection code uses SO_REUSEADDR socket option before binding to
host port. Behavior of SO_REUSEADDR is different on Windows and Linux.
Relaunching QEMU with same host and guest port redirection values on Linux
throws error but on Windows it does not throw any error.

b5a87d26e8 make user networking hostfwd work with restrict=y
This patch allows the hostfwd option to override the restrict=y setting in
the user network stack, as explicitly stated in the documentation on the
restrict option:

     restrict=on|off
         If this option is enabled, the guest will be isolated, i.e. it
         will not be able to contact the host and no guest IP packets
         will be routed over the host to the outside. This option does
         not affect any explicitly set forwarding rules.

8917c3bdba slirp: switch to GPollFD
Slirp uses rfds/wfds/xfds more extensively than other QEMU components.

The rarely-used out-of-band TCP data feature is used.  That means we
need the full table of select(2) to g_poll(3) events:

  rfds -> G_IO_IN | G_IO_HUP | G_IO_ERR
  wfds -> G_IO_OUT | G_IO_ERR
  xfds -> G_IO_PRI

I came up with this table by looking at Linux fs/select.c which maps
select(2) to poll(2) internally.

Another detail to watch out for are the global variables that reference
rfds/wfds/xfds during slirp_select_poll().  sofcantrcvmore() and
sofcantsendmore() use these globals to clear fd_set bits.  When
sofcantrcvmore() is called, the wfds bit is cleared so that the write
handler will no longer be run for this iteration of the event loop.

This actually seems buggy to me since TCP connections can be half-closed
and we'd still want to handle data in half-duplex fashion.  I think the
real intention is to avoid running the read/write handler when the
socket has been fully closed.  This is indicated with the SS_NOFDREF
state bit so we now check for it before invoking the TCP write handler.
Note that UDP/ICMP code paths don't care because they are
connectionless.

Note that slirp/ has a lot of tabs and sometimes mixed tabs with spaces.
I followed the style of the surrounding code.
