fb4b0c6765 tpm-backend: Remove unneeded member variable from backend class
TPMDriverOps inside TPMBackend is not required, as it is supposed to be a class
member. The only possible reason for keeping in TPMBackend was, to get the
backend type in tpm.c where dedicated backend api, tpm_backend_get_type() is
present.

eb584b401f disas: Always initialize read_memory_inner_func properly
I've recently seen this with valgrind while running the HMP tester:

==22373==    by 0x38A08D: monitor_qmp_read (monitor.c:3895)

And indeed, in monitor_disas, the read_memory_inner_func variable was
not initialized, but arm_disas_set_info() expects this to be NULL
or a valid pointer. Let's properly set this to NULL in the
INIT_DISASSEMBLE_INFO to fix it in all functions that use the
disassemble_info struct.

3b19f45069 ide: support reporting of rotation rate
The Linux kernel will query the ATA IDENTITY DEVICE data, word 217
to determine the rotations per minute of the disk. If this has
the value 1, it is taken to be an SSD and so Linux sets the
'rotational' flag to 0 for the I/O queue and will stop using that
disk as a source of random entropy. Other operating systems may
also take into account rotation rate when setting up default
behaviour.

Mgmt apps should be able to set the rotation rate for virtualized
block devices, based on characteristics of the host storage in use,
so that the guest OS gets sensible behaviour out of the box. This
patch thus adds a 'rotation-rate' parameter for 'ide-hd' device
types.

f6bb84d531 tcg: consolidate TB lookups in tb_lookup__cpu_state
This avoids duplicating code. cpu_exec_step will also use the
new common function once we integrate parallel_cpus into tb->cflags.

Note that in this commit we also fix a race, described by Richard Henderson
during review. Think of this scenario with threads A and B:

   (A) Lookup succeeds for TB in hash without tb_lock
        (B) Sets the TB's tb->invalid flag
        (B) Removes the TB from tb_htable
        (B) Clears all CPU's tb_jmp_cache
   (A) Store TB into local tb_jmp_cache

Given that order of events, (A) will keep executing that invalid TB until
another flush of its tb_jmp_cache happens, which in theory might never happen.
We can fix this by checking the tb->invalid flag every time we look up a TB
from tb_jmp_cache, so that in the above scenario, next time we try to find
that TB in tb_jmp_cache, we won't, and will therefore be forced to look it
up in tb_htable.

Performance-wise, I measured a small improvement when booting debian-arm.
Note that inlining pays off:

83974cf4f8 cputlb: bring back tlb_flush_count under !TLB_DEBUG
Commit f0aff0f124 ("cputlb: add assert_cpu_is_self checks") buried
the increment of tlb_flush_count under TLB_DEBUG. This results in
"info jit" always (mis)reporting 0 TLB flushes when !TLB_DEBUG.

Besides, under MTTCG tlb_flush_count is updated by several threads,
so in order not to lose counts we'd either have to use atomic ops
or distribute the counter, which is more scalable.

This patch does the latter by embedding tlb_flush_count in CPUArchState.
The global count is then easily obtained by iterating over the CPU list.

Note that this change also requires updating the accessors to
tlb_flush_count to use atomic_read/set whenever there may be conflicting
accesses (as defined in C11) to it.

bde70715b6 commit: Remove overlay_bs
We don't need to make any assumptions about the graph layout above the
top node of the commit operation any more. Remove the use of
bdrv_find_overlay() and related variables from the commit job code.

bdrv_drop_intermediate() doesn't use the 'active' parameter any more, so
we can just drop it.

The overlay node was previously added to the block job to get a
BLK_PERM_GRAPH_MOD. We really need to respect those permissions in
bdrv_drop_intermediate() now, but as long as we haven't figured out yet
how BLK_PERM_GRAPH_MOD is actually supposed to work, just leave a TODO
comment there.

With this change, it is now possible to perform another block job on an
overlay node without conflicts. qemu-iotests 030 is changed accordingly.

6858eba09e block: Introduce BdrvChildRole.update_filename
There is no good reason for bdrv_drop_intermediate() to know the active
layer above the subchain it is operating on - even more so, because
the assumption that there is a single active layer above it is not
generally true.

In order to prepare removal of the active parameter, use a BdrvChildRole
callback to update the backing file string in the overlay image instead
of directly calling bdrv_change_backing_file().

0fdf1a4f68 dirty-bitmap: Switch bdrv_set_dirty() to bytes
Both callers already had bytes available, but were scaling to
sectors. Move the scaling to internal code. In the case of

as long as dirty bitmap widens start/bytes to granularity

e0d7f73e63 dirty-bitmap: Change bdrv_[re]set_dirty_bitmap() to use bytes
Some of the callers were already scaling bytes to sectors; others
can be easily converted to pass byte offsets, all in our shift
towards a consistent byte interface everywhere. Making the change
will also make it easier to write the hold-out callers to use byte
rather than sectors for their iterations; it also makes it easier
for a future dirty-bitmap patch to offload scaling over to the
internal hbitmap. Although all callers happen to pass
sector-aligned values, make the internal scaling robust to any

3b5d4df0c6 dirty-bitmap: Change bdrv_get_dirty_locked() to take bytes
Half the callers were already scaling bytes to sectors; the other
half can eventually be simplified to use byte iteration. Both
callers were already using the result as a bool, so make that
explicit. Making the change also makes it easier for a future
dirty-bitmap patch to offload scaling over to the internal hbitmap.

Remember, asking whether a byte is dirty is effectively asking
whether the entire granularity containing the byte is dirty, since
we only track dirtiness by granularity.

86f6ae67e1 dirty-bitmap: Change bdrv_dirty_bitmap_*serialize*() to take bytes
Right now, the dirty-bitmap code exposes the fact that we use
a scale of sector granularity in the underlying hbitmap to anything
that wants to serialize a dirty bitmap. It's nicer to uniformly
expose bytes as our dirty-bitmap interface, matching the previous
change to bitmap size. The only caller to serialization is currently
qcow2-cluster.c, which becomes a bit more verbose because it is still
tracking sectors for other reasons, but a later patch will fix that
to more uniformly use byte offsets everywhere. Likewise, within
dirty-bitmap, we have to add more assertions that we are not
truncating incorrectly, which can go away once the internal hbitmap
is byte-based rather than sector-based.

1b6cc579de dirty-bitmap: Avoid size query failure during truncate
We've previously fixed several places where we failed to account
for possible errors from bdrv_nb_sectors(). Fix another one by
making bdrv_dirty_bitmap_truncate() take the new size from the
caller instead of querying itself; then adjust the sole caller
bdrv_truncate() to pass the size just determined by a successful
resize, or to reuse the size given to the original truncate
operation when refresh_total_sectors() was not able to confirm the
actual size (the two sizes can potentially differ according to
rounding constraints), thus avoiding sizing the bitmaps to -1.
This also fixes a bug where not all failure paths in
bdrv_truncate() would set errp.

Note that bdrv_truncate() is still a bit awkward. We may want
to revisit it later and clean up things to better guarantee that
a resize attempt either fails cleanly up front, or cannot fail
after guest-visible changes have been made (if temporary changes
are made, then they need to be cleanly rolled back). But that
is a task for another day; for now, the goal is the bare minimum
fix to ensure that just bdrv_dirty_bitmap_truncate() cannot fail.

62dd4edaaf kvm: check KVM_CAP_SYNC_MMU with kvm_vm_check_extension()
On a server-class ppc host, this capability depends on the KVM type,
ie, HV or PR. If both KVM are present in the kernel, we will always
get the HV specific value, even if we explicitely requested PR on
the command line.

This can have an impact if we're using hugepages or a balloon device.

Since we've already created the VM at the time any user calls
kvm_has_sync_mmu(), switching to kvm_vm_check_extension() is
enough to fix any potential issue.

It is okay for the other archs that also implement KVM_CAP_SYNC_MMU,
ie, mips, s390, x86 and arm, because they don't depend on the VM being
created or not.

While here, let's cache the state of this extension in a bool variable,
since it has several users in the code, as suggested by Thomas Huth.

148eb13c84 block: Base permissions on rw state after reopen
When new permissions are calculated during bdrv_reopen(), they need to
be based on the state of the graph as it will be after the reopen has
completed, not on the current state of the involved nodes.

This patch makes bdrv_is_writable() optionally accept a BlockReopenQueue
from which the new flags are taken. This is then used for determining
the new bs->file permissions of format drivers as soon as we add the
code to actually pass a non-NULL reopen queue to the .bdrv_child_perm
callbacks.

While moving bdrv_is_writable(), make it static. It isn't used outside
block.c.

2098b073f3 osdep: Fix ROUND_UP(64-bit, 32-bit)
When using bit-wise operations that exploit the power-of-two
nature of the second argument of ROUND_UP(), we still need to
ensure that the mask is as wide as the first argument (done
by using a ternary to force proper arithmetic promotion).
Unpatched, ROUND_UP(2ULL*1024*1024*1024*1024, 512U) produces 0,
instead of the intended 2TiB, because negation of an unsigned
32-bit quantity followed by widening to 64-bits does not
sign-extend the mask.

Broken since its introduction in commit 292c8e50 (v1.5.0).
Callers that passed the same width type to both macro parameters,
or that had other code to ensure the first parameter's maximum
runtime value did not exceed the second parameter's width, are
unaffected, but I did not audit to see which (if any) existing
clients of the macro could trigger incorrect behavior (I found
the bug while adding a new use of the macro).

While preparing the patch, checkpatch complained about poor
spacing, so I also fixed that here and in the nearby DIV_ROUND_UP.

401bc051d7 util/qemu-thread-posix.c: Replace OS ifdefs with CONFIG_HAVE_SEM_TIMEDWAIT
In qemu-thread-posix.c we have two implementations of the
various qemu_sem_* functions, one of which uses native POSIX
sem_* and the other of which emulates them with pthread conditions.
This is necessary because not all our host OSes support
sem_timedwait().

Instead of a hard-coded list of OSes which don't implement
sem_timedwait(), which gets out of date, make configure
test for the presence of the function and set a new
CONFIG_HAVE_SEM_TIMEDWAIT appropriately.

In particular, newer NetBSDs have sem_timedwait(), so this
commit will switch them over to using it. OSX still does
not have an implementation.

bb86d05f4a chardev: remove context in chr_update_read_handler
We had a per-chardev cache for context, then we don't need this
parameter to be passed in every time when chr_update_read_handler()
called. As long as we are calling chr_update_read_handler() using
qemu_chr_be_update_read_handlers() we'll be fine.

95eeeba669 chardev: add Chardev.gcontext field
It caches the gcontext that is used to poll the chardev IO. Before this
patch, we only passed it in via chr_update_read_handlers(). However
that may not be enough if the char backend is disconnected and
reconnected afterward. There are chardev codes that still assumed the
context be NULL (which is the main context). Will fix that up in
following up patches.

fe8fc5ae5c scsi: add multipath support to qemu-pr-helper
Proper support of persistent reservation for multipath devices requires
communication with the multipath daemon, so that the reservation is
registered and applied when a path comes up. The device mapper
utilities provide a library to do so; this patch makes qemu-pr-helper.c
detect multipath devices and, when one is found, delegate the operation
to libmpathpersist.

c646762736 migration: add has_postcopy savevm handler
Now postcopy-able states are recognized by not NULL
save_live_complete_postcopy handler. But when we have several different

Provide helpers to convert bitmaps to little endian format. It can be
used when we want to send one bitmap via network to some other hosts.

One thing to mention is that, these helpers only solve the problem of

size when malloced). So we need to take care of the size alignment issue

7c9e527659 scsi, file-posix: add support for persistent reservation management
It is a common requirement for virtual machine to send persistent
reservations, but this currently requires either running QEMU with
CAP_SYS_RAWIO, or using out-of-tree patches that let an unprivileged
QEMU bypass Linux's filter on SG_IO commands.

As an alternative mechanism, the next patches will introduce a
privileged helper to run persistent reservation commands without
expanding QEMU's attack surface unnecessarily.

The helper is invoked through a "pr-manager" QOM object, to which
file-posix.c passes SG_IO requests for PERSISTENT RESERVE OUT and
PERSISTENT RESERVE IN commands. For example:

  $ qemu-system-x86_64
      -device virtio-scsi \
      -object pr-manager-helper,id=helper0,path=/var/run/qemu-pr-helper.sock
      -drive if=none,id=hd,driver=raw,file.filename=/dev/sdb,file.pr-manager=helper0
      -device scsi-block,drive=hd

or:

  $ qemu-system-x86_64
      -device virtio-scsi \
      -object pr-manager-helper,id=helper0,path=/var/run/qemu-pr-helper.sock
      -blockdev node-name=hd,driver=raw,file.driver=host_device,file.filename=/dev/sdb,file.pr-manager=helper0
      -device scsi-block,drive=hd

Multiple pr-manager implementations are conceivable and possible, though
only one is implemented right now. For example, a pr-manager could:

- talk directly to the multipath daemon from a privileged QEMU
  (i.e. QEMU links to libmpathpersist); this makes reservation work
  properly with multipath, but still requires CAP_SYS_RAWIO

- use the Linux IOC_PR_* ioctls (they require CAP_SYS_ADMIN though)

- more interestingly, implement reservations directly in QEMU
  through file system locks or a shared database (e.g. sqlite)

66a6df1dc6 memory: Move AddressSpaceDispatch from AddressSpace to FlatView
As we are going to share FlatView's between AddressSpace's,
and AddressSpaceDispatch is a structure to perform quick lookup
in FlatView, this moves ASD to FlatView.

After previosly open coded ASD rendering, we can also remove
as->next_dispatch as the new FlatView pointer is stored
on a stack and set to an AS atomically.

flatview_destroy() is executed under RCU instead of
address_space_dispatch_free() now.

This makes mem_begin/mem_commit to work with ASD and mem_add with FV

447b0d0b9e memory: avoid "resurrection" of dead FlatViews
It's possible for address_space_get_flatview() as it currently stands
to cause a use-after-free for the returned FlatView, if the reference
count is incremented after the FlatView has been replaced by a writer:

   thread 1 thread 2 RCU thread
  -------------------------------------------------------------
   rcu_read_lock
   read as->current_map
                        set as->current_map
                        flatview_unref
                           '--> call_rcu
   flatview_ref
     [ref=1]
   rcu_read_unlock
                                             flatview_destroy
   <badness>

Since FlatViews are not updated very often, we can just detect the
situation using a new atomic op atomic_fetch_inc_nonzero, similar to
Linux's atomic_inc_not_zero, which performs the refcount increment only if
it hasn't already hit zero. This is similar to Linux commit de09a9771a53
("CRED: Fix get_task_cred() and task_state() to not resurrect dead
credentials", 2010-07-29).

5255fcf8e4 nvic: Add cached vectpending_prio state
Instead of looking up the pending priority
in nvic_pending_prio(), cache it in a new state struct
field. The calculation of the pending priority given
the interrupt number is more complicated in v8M with
the security extension, so the caching will be worthwhile.

This changes nvic_pending_prio() from returning a full
(group + subpriority) priority value to returning a group
priority. This doesn't require changes to its callsites
because we use it only in comparisons of the form
  execution_prio > nvic_pending_prio()
and execution priority is always a group priority, so
a test (exec prio > full prio) is true if and only if
(execprio > group_prio).

(Architecturally the expected comparison is with the
group priority for this sort of "would we preempt" test;
we were only doing a test with a full priority as an
optimisation to avoid the mask, which is possible
precisely because the two comparisons always give the
same answer.)

55289fb036 virtio-serial: add enable_backend callback
We should guarantee that RAM will not be modified while VM has a stopped
state, otherwise it can lead to negative consequences during post-copy
migration. In RUN_STATE_FINISH_MIGRATE step, it's expected that RAM on
source side will not be modified as this could lead to non-consistent vm state
on the destination side. Also RAM access during postcopy-ram migration with
enabled release-ram capability can lead to sad consequences.

Let's add enable_backend() callback to avoid undesirable virtioqueue changes

79e0793614 numa: cpu: calculate/set default node-ids after all -numa CLI options are parsed
Calculating default node-ids for CPUs in possible_cpu_arch_ids()
is rather fragile since defaults calculation uses nb_numa_nodes but
callback might be potentially called early before all -numa CLI
options are parsed, which would lead to cpus assigned only upto
nb_numa_nodes at the time possible_cpu_arch_ids() is called.

Issue was introduced by
(7c88e65 numa: mirror cpu to node mapping in MachineState::possible_cpus)
and for example CLI:
  -smp 4 -numa node,cpus=0 -numa node
would set props.node-id in possible_cpus array for every non
explicitly mapped CPU to the first node.

Issue is not visible to guest nor to mgmt interface due to
  1) implictly mapped cpus are forced to the first node in
     case of partial mapping
  2) in case of default mapping possible_cpu_arch_ids() is
     called after all -numa options are parsed (resulting
     in correct mapping).

However it's fragile to rely on late execution of
possible_cpu_arch_ids(), therefore add machine specific
callback that returns node-id for CPU and use it to calculate/
set defaults at machine_numa_finish_init() time when all -numa
options are parsed.

262a69f428 osdep.h: Prohibit disabling assert() in supported builds
We already have several files that knowingly require assert()
to work, sometimes because refactoring the code for proper
error handling has not been tackled yet; there are probably
other files that have a similar situation but with no comments
documenting the same. In fact, we have places in migration
that handle untrusted input with assertions, where disabling
the assertions risks a worse security hole than the current
behavior of losing the guest to SIGABRT when migration fails
because of the assertion. Promote our current per-file
safety-valve to instead be project-wide, and expand it to also
cover glib's g_assert().

Note that we do NOT want to encourage 'assert(side-effects);'
(that is a bad practice that prevents copy-and-paste of code to
other projects that CAN disable assertions; plus it costs
unnecessary reviewer mental cycles to remember whether a project
special-cases the crippling of asserts); and we would LIKE to
fix migration to not rely on asserts (but that takes a big code
audit). But in the meantime, we DO want to send a message
that anyone that disables assertions has to tweak code in order
to compile, making it obvious that they are taking on additional
risk that we are not going to support. At the same time, leave
comments mentioning NDEBUG in files that we know still need to
be scrubbed, so there is at least something to grep for.

It would be possible to come up with some other mechanism for
doing runtime checking by default, but which does not abort
the program on failure, while leaving side effects in place
(unlike how crippling assert() avoids even the side effects),
perhaps under the name q_verify(); but it was not deemed worth
the effort (developers should not have to learn a replacement
when the standard C macro works just fine, and it would be a lot
of churn for little gain). The patch specifically uses #error
rather than #warn so that a user is forced to tweak the header
to acknowledge the issue, even when not using a -Werror
compilation.

6c69dfb67e i386/cpu/hyperv: support over 64 vcpus for windows guests
Starting with Windows Server 2012 and Windows 8, if
CPUID.40000005.EAX contains a value of -1, Windows assumes specific
limit to the number of VPs. In this case, Windows Server 2012
guest VMs may use more than 64 VPs, up to the maximum supported
number of processors applicable to the specific Windows
version being used.

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/virtualization/hyper-v-on-windows/reference/tlfs

For compatibility, Let's introduce a new property for X86CPU,
named "x-hv-max-vps" as Eduardo's suggestion, and set it
to 0x40 before machine 2.10.

(The "x-" prefix indicates that the property is not supposed to
be a stable user interface.)

ba1ba5cca3 arm: drop intermediate cpu_model -> cpu type parsing and use cpu type directly
there are 2 use cases to deal with:
  1: fixed CPU models per board/soc
  2: boards with user configurable cpu_model and fallback to
     default cpu_model if user hasn't specified one explicitly

For the 1st
  drop intermediate cpu_model parsing and use const cpu type
  directly, which replaces:
     typename = object_class_get_name(
           cpu_class_by_name(TYPE_ARM_CPU, cpu_model))
     object_new(typename)
  with
     object_new(FOO_CPU_TYPE_NAME)
  or
     cpu_generic_init(BASE_CPU_TYPE, "my cpu model")
  with
     cpu_create(FOO_CPU_TYPE_NAME)

as result 1st use case doesn't have to invoke not necessary
translation and not needed code is removed.

For the 2nd
 1: set default cpu type with MachineClass::default_cpu_type and
 2: use generic cpu_model parsing that done before machine_init()
    is run and:
    2.1: drop custom cpu_model parsing where pattern is:
       typename = object_class_get_name(
           cpu_class_by_name(TYPE_ARM_CPU, cpu_model))
       [parse_features(typename, cpu_model, &err) ]

    2.2: or replace cpu_generic_init() which does what
         2.1 does + create_cpu(typename) with just
         create_cpu(machine->cpu_type)
as result cpu_name -> cpu_type translation is done using
generic machine code one including parsing optional features
if supported/present (removes a bunch of duplicated cpu_model
parsing code) and default cpu type is defined in an uniform way
within machine_class_init callbacks instead of adhoc places
in boadr's machine_init code.

6063d4c0f9 vl.c: convert cpu_model to cpu type and set of global properties before machine_init()
All machines that support user specified cpu_model either call
cpu_generic_init() or cpu_class_by_name()/CPUClass::parse_features
to parse feature string and to get CPU type to create.

Which leads to code duplication and hard-codding default CPU model
within machine_foo_init() code. Which makes it impossible to
get CPU type before machine_init() is run.

So instead of setting default CPUs models and doing parsing in
target specific machine_foo_init() in various ways, provide
a generic data driven cpu_model parsing before machine_init()
is called.

in follow up per target patches, it will allow to:
  * define default CPU type in consistent/generic manner
    per machine type and drop custom code that fallbacks
    to default if cpu_model is NULL
  * drop custom features parsing in targets and do it
    in centralized way.
  * for cases of
      cpu_generic_init(TYPE_BASE/DEFAULT_CPU, "some_cpu")
    replace it with
      cpu_create(machine->cpu_type) || cpu_create(TYPE_FOO)
    depending if CPU type is user settable or not.
    not doing useless parsing and clearly documenting where
    CPU model is user settable or fixed one.

Patch allows machine subclasses to define default CPU type
per machine class at class_init() time and if that is set
generic code will parse cpu_model into a MachineState::cpu_type
which will be used to create CPUs for that machine instance
and allows gradual per board conversion.

5c0919d020 virtio-scsi: Add virtqueue_size parameter allowing virtqueue size to be set.
Since Linux switched to blk-mq as the default in Linux commit
5c279bd9e406 ("scsi: default to scsi-mq"), virtio-scsi LUNs consume
about 10x as much guest kernel memory.

This commit allows you to choose the virtqueue size for each
virtio-scsi-pci controller like this:

  -device virtio-scsi-pci,id=scsi,virtqueue_size=16

The default is still 128 as before. Using smaller virtqueue_size
allows many more disks to be added to small memory virtual machines.
For a 1 vCPU, 500 MB, no swap VM I observed:

  With scsi-mq enabled (upstream kernel): 175 disks
    -"- ditto -"-   virtqueue_size=64:                 318 disks
    -"- ditto -"-   virtqueue_size=16:                 775 disks
  With scsi-mq disabled (kernel before 5c279bd9e406): 1755 disks

Note that to have any effect, this requires a kernel patch:

3eee2611dd IDE: replace DEBUG_IDE with tracing system
Remove the DEBUG_IDE preprocessor definition with something more
appropriately flexible, using the trace-events subsystem.

This will be less prone to bitrot and will more effectively allow
us to target just the functions we care about.

21f3f8db0e ppc/xive: fix OV5_XIVE_EXPLOIT bits
On POWER9, the Client Architecture Support (CAS) negotiation process
determines whether the guest operates in XIVE Legacy compatibility or
in XIVE exploitation mode. Now that we have initial guest support for
the XIVE interrupt controller, let's fix the bits definition which have
evolved in the latest specs.

The platform advertises the XIVE Exploitation Mode support using the
property "ibm,arch-vec-5-platform-support-vec-5", byte 23 bits 0-1 :

 - 0b00 XIVE legacy mode Only
 - 0b01 XIVE exploitation mode Only
 - 0b10 XIVE legacy or exploitation mode

The OS asks for XIVE Exploitation Mode support using the property
"ibm,architecture-vec-5", byte 23 bits 0-1:

 - 0b00 XIVE legacy mode Only
 - 0b01 XIVE exploitation mode Only

Benjamin Herrenschmidt
f85504b23a net: Add SunGEM device emulation as found on Apple UniNorth
This adds a simplistic emulation of the Sun GEM ethernet controller
found in Apple ASICs.

Currently we only support the Apple UniNorth 1.x variant, but the
other Apple or Sun variants should mostly be a matter of adding
PCI IDs options.

We have a very primitive emulation of a single Broadcom 5201 PHY
which is supported by the MacOS driver.

This model brings out-of-the-box networking to MacOS 9, and all
versions of OS X I tried with the mac99 platform.

Further improvements from Mark:
- Remove sungem.h file, moving constants into sungem.c as required
- Switch to using tracepoints for debugging
- Split register blocks into separate memory regions
- Use arrays in SunGEMState to hold register values
- Add state-saving support

This compat property sole function is to prevent the device from being
instantiated. Instead of requiring an extra compat property, check if
fw_cfg has DMA enabled.

fw_cfg is a built-in device that is initialized very early by the
machine init code. We have at least one other device that also
assumes fw_cfg_find() can be safely used on realize: pvpanic.

This has the additional benefit of handling other cases properly, like:

  $ qemu-system-x86_64 -device vmgenid -machine none
  qemu-system-x86_64: -device vmgenid: vmgenid requires DMA write support in fw_cfg, which this machine type does not provide
  $ qemu-system-x86_64 -device vmgenid -machine pc-i440fx-2.9 -global fw_cfg.dma_enabled=off
  qemu-system-x86_64: -device vmgenid: vmgenid requires DMA write support in fw_cfg, which this machine type does not provide
  $ qemu-system-x86_64 -device vmgenid -machine pc-i440fx-2.6 -global fw_cfg.dma_enabled=on
  [boots normally]

226263fb5c hw/pci: add QEMU-specific PCI capability to the Generic PCI Express Root Port
To enable hotplugging of a newly created pcie-pci-bridge,
we need to tell firmware (e.g. SeaBIOS) to reserve
additional buses or IO/MEM/PREF space for pcie-root-port.
Additional bus reservation allows us to hotplug pcie-pci-bridge into this root port.
The number of buses and IO/MEM/PREF space to reserve are provided to the device via
a corresponding property, and to the firmware via new PCI capability.
The properties' default values are -1 to keep default behavior unchanged.

fa98fbfcdf PPC: KVM: Support machine option to set VSMT mode
KVM now allows writing to KVM_CAP_PPC_SMT which has previously been
read only. Doing so causes KVM to act, for that VM, as if the host's
SMT mode was the given value. This is particularly important on Power
9 systems because their default value is 1, but they are able to
support values up to 8.

This patch introduces a way to control this capability via a new
machine property called VSMT ("Virtual SMT"). If the value is not set
on the command line a default is chosen that is, when possible,
compatible with legacy systems.

Note that the intialization of KVM_CAP_PPC_SMT has changed slightly
because it has changed (in KVM) from a global capability to a
VM-specific one. This won't cause a problem on older KVMs because VM
capabilities fall back to global ones.

10f12e6450 hw/ppc: CAS reset on early device hotplug
This patch is a follow up on the discussions made in patch
"hw/ppc: disable hotplug before CAS is completed" that can be
found at [1].

At this moment, we do not support CPU/memory hotplug in early
boot stages, before CAS. When a hotplug occurs, the event is logged
in an internal RTAS event log queue and an IRQ pulse is fired. In
regular conditions, the guest handles the interrupt by executing
check_exception, fetching the generated hotplug event and enabling
the device for use.

In early boot, this IRQ isn't caught (SLOF does not handle hotplug
events), leaving the event in the rtas event log queue. If the guest
executes check_exception due to another hotplug event, the re-assertion
of the IRQ ends up de-queuing the first hotplug event as well. In short,
a device hotplugged before CAS is considered coldplugged by SLOF.
This leads to device misbehavior and, in some cases, guest kernel
Ooops when trying to unplug the device.

A proper fix would be to turn every device hotplugged before CAS
as a colplugged device. This is not trivial to do with the current
code base though - the FDT is written in the guest memory at
ppc_spapr_reset and can't be retrieved without adding extra state
(fdt_size for example) that will need to managed and migrated. Adding
the hotplugged DT in the middle of CAS negotiation via the updated DT
tree works with CPU devs, but panics the guest kernel at boot. Additional
analysis would be necessary for LMBs and PCI devices. There are
questions to be made in QEMU/SLOF/kernel level about how we can make
this change in a sustainable way.

With Linux guests, a fix would be the kernel executing check_exception
at boot time, de-queueing the events that happened in early boot and
processing them. However, even if/when the newer kernels start
fetching these events at boot time, we need to take care of older
kernels that won't be doing that.

This patch works around the situation by issuing a CAS reset if a hotplugged
device is detected during CAS:

- the DRC conditions that warrant a CAS reset is the same as those that
triggers a DRC migration - the DRC must have a device attached and
the DRC state is not equal to its ready_state. With that in mind, this
patch makes use of 'spapr_drc_needed' to determine if a CAS reset
is needed.

- In the middle of CAS negotiations, the function
'spapr_hotplugged_dev_before_cas' goes through all the DRCs to see
if there are any DRC that requires a reset, using spapr_drc_needed. If
that happens, returns '1' in 'spapr_h_cas_compose_response' which will set
spapr->cas_reboot to true, causing the machine to reboot.

No changes are made for coldplug devices.

5625817423 hw/ppc: clear pending_events on machine reset
The sPAPR machine isn't clearing up the pending events QTAILQ on
machine reboot. This allows for unprocessed hotplug/epow events
to persist in the queue after reset and, when reasserting the IRQs in
check_exception later on, these will be being processed by the OS.

This patch implements a new function called 'spapr_clear_pending_events'
that clears up the pending_events QTAILQ. This helper is then called
inside ppc_spapr_reset to clear up the events queue, preventing
old/deprecated events from persisting after a reset.

ed860129ac boards.h: Define new flag ignore_memory_transaction_failures
Define a new MachineClass field ignore_memory_transaction_failures.
If this is flag is true then the CPU will ignore memory transaction
failures which should cause the CPU to take an exception due to an
access to an unassigned physical address; the transaction will
instead return zero (for a read) or be ignored (for a write). This
should be set only by legacy board models which rely on the old
RAZ/WI behaviour for handling devices that QEMU does not yet model.
New board models should instead use "unimplemented-device" for all
memory ranges where the guest will attempt to probe for a device that
QEMU doesn't implement and a stub device is required.

We need this for ARM boards, where we're about to implement support for
generating external aborts on memory transaction failures. Too many
of our legacy board models rely on the RAZ/WI behaviour and we
would break currently working guests when their "probe for device"
code provoked an external abort rather than a RAZ.

e8ffaa3110 io: Add new qio_channel_read{, v}_all_eof functions
Some callers want to distinguish between clean EOF (no bytes read)
vs. a short read (at least one byte read, but EOF encountered
before reaching the desired length), as it allows clients the
ability to do a graceful shutdown when a server shuts down at
defined safe points in the protocol, rather than treating all
shutdown scenarios as an error due to EOF. However, we don't want
to require all callers to have to check for early EOF. So add
another wrapper function that can be used by the callers that care
about the distinction.

43c64a093d host-utils: Proactively fix pow2floor(), switch to unsigned
The function's stated contract is simple enough: "round down to the
nearest power of 2". Suggests the domain is the representable numbers
>= 1, because that's the smallest power of two.

The implementation doesn't check for domain errors, but returns
garbage instead:

* For negative arguments, pow2floor() returns -2^63, which is not even
  a power of two, let alone the nearest one.

  What sort of works is passing *unsigned* arguments >= 2^63. The
  implicit conversion to signed is implementation defined, but
  commonly yields the (negative) two's complement. pow2floor() then
  returns -2^63. Callers that convert that back to unsigned get the
  correct value 2^63.

* For a zero argument, pow2floor() shifts right by 64. Undefined
  behavior. Common actual behavior is to shift by 0, yielding -2^63.

Fix by switching from int64_t to uint64_t and amending the contract to
map zero to zero.

Callers are fine with that:

* memory_access_size()

  This function makes no sense unless the argument is positive and the
  return value fits into int.

* raw_refresh_limits()

  Passes an int between 1 and BDRV_REQUEST_MAX_BYTES.

* iscsi_refresh_limits()

  Passes an integer between 0 and INT_MAX, converts the result to
  uint32_t. Passing zero would be undefined behavior, but commonly
  yield zero. The patch gives us the zero without the undefined
  behavior.

* cache_init()

  Passes a positive int64_t argument.

* xbzrle_cache_resize()

  Passes a positive int64_t argument (>= TARGET_PAGE_SIZE, actually).

* spapr_node0_size()

  Passes a positive uint64_t argument, and converts the result to
  hwaddr, i.e. uint64_t.

* spapr_populate_memory()

  Passes a positive hwaddr argument, and converts the result to
  hwaddr.

d8e7d87ec4 block: add throttle block filter driver
block/throttle.c uses existing I/O throttle infrastructure inside a
block filter driver. I/O operations are intercepted in the filter's
read/write coroutines, and referred to block/throttle-groups.c

The driver can be used with the syntax
-drive driver=throttle,file.filename=foo.qcow2,throttle-group=bar

given group must be created beforehand with object-add or -object.

432d889e55 block: convert ThrottleGroup to object with QOM
ThrottleGroup is converted to an object. This will allow the future
throttle block filter drive easy creation and configuration of throttle
groups in QMP and cli.

A new QAPI struct, ThrottleLimits, is introduced to provide a shared
struct for all throttle configuration needs in QMP.

ThrottleGroups can be created via CLI as
    -object throttle-group,id=foo,x-iops-total=100,x-..
where x-* are individual limit properties. Since we can't add non-scalar
properties in -object this interface must be used instead. However,
setting these properties must be disabled after initialization because
certain combinations of limits are forbidden and thus configuration
changes should be done in one transaction. The individual properties
will go away when support for non-scalar values in CLI is implemented
and thus are marked as experimental.

ThrottleGroup also has a `limits` property that uses the ThrottleLimits
struct. It can be used to create ThrottleGroups or set the
configuration in existing groups as follows:

{ "execute": "object-add",
  "arguments": {
    "qom-type": "throttle-group",
    "id": "foo",
    "props" : {
      "limits": {
          "iops-total": 100
      }
    }
  }
}
{ "execute" : "qom-set",
    "arguments" : {
        "path" : "foo",
        "property" : "limits",
        "value" : {
            "iops-total" : 99
        }
    }
}

This also means a group's configuration can be fetched with qom-get.

use the QIOChannel code, so we can drop NonBlockingConnectHandler
as a concept entirely.

The i82078 floppy device model used to call bdrv_media_changed() to

5a612c009e block: pass bdrv_* methods to bs->file by default in block filters
The following functions fail if bs->drv is a filter and does not
implement them:

bdrv_probe_blocksizes
bdrv_probe_geometry

Instead, the call should be passed to bs->file if it exists, to allow
filter drivers to support those methods without implementing them. This

forwarded to bs->file by default, so disabling support for these

0dff0939f6 cpu: Define new cpu_transaction_failed() hook
Currently we have a rather half-baked setup for allowing CPUs to
generate exceptions on accesses to invalid memory: the CPU has a
cpu_unassigned_access() hook which the memory system calls in
unassigned_mem_write() and unassigned_mem_read() if the current_cpu
pointer is non-NULL. This was originally designed before we
implemented the MemTxResult type that allows memory operations to
report a success or failure code, which is why the hook is called
right at the bottom of the memory system. The major problem with
this is that it means that the hook can be called even when the
access was not actually done by the CPU: for instance if the CPU
writes to a DMA engine register which causes the DMA engine to begin
a transaction which has been set up by the guest to operate on
invalid memory then this will casue the CPU to take an exception
incorrectly. Another minor problem is that currently if a device
returns a transaction error then this won't turn into a CPU exception
at all.

The right way to do this is to have allow the CPU to respond
to memory system transaction failures at the point where the
CPU specific code calls into the memory system.

Define a new QOM CPU method and utility function
cpu_transaction_failed() which is called in these cases.
The functionality here overlaps with the existing
cpu_unassigned_access() because individual target CPUs will
need some work to convert them to the new system. When this
transition is complete we can remove the old cpu_unassigned_access()
code.

Move the MemTxResult type to memattrs.h. We're going to want to
use it in cpu/qom.h, which doesn't want to include all of

closely linked since both are used for the new-style

is a reasonable home for this rather than creating a whole

f55d613bc9 watchdog: wdt_aspeed: Add support for the reset width register
The reset width register controls how the pulse on the SoC's WDTRST{1,2}

WDT_CTRL. On the AST2500 WDT_RESET_WIDTH can consume magic bit patterns
to configure push-pull/open-drain and active-high/active-low

As some of the capabilities depend on the SoC version a silicon-rev

bf1733392c loader: Handle ELF files with overlapping zero-initialized data
For embedded systems, notably ARM, one common use of ELF
file segments is that the 'physical addresses' represent load addresses
and the 'virtual addresses' execution addresses, such that
the load addresses are packed into ROM or flash, and the
relocation and zero-initialization of data is done at runtime.
This means that the 'memsz' in the segment header represents
the runtime size of the segment, but the size that needs to
be loaded is only the 'filesz'. In particular, paddr+memsz
may overlap with the next segment to be loaded, as in this
example:

0x70000001 off    0x00007f68 vaddr 0x00008150 paddr 0x00008150 align 2**2
         filesz 0x00000008 memsz 0x00000008 flags r--
    LOAD off    0x000000f4 vaddr 0x00000000 paddr 0x00000000 align 2**2
         filesz 0x00000124 memsz 0x00000124 flags r--
    LOAD off    0x00000218 vaddr 0x00000400 paddr 0x00000400 align 2**3
         filesz 0x00007d58 memsz 0x00007d58 flags r-x
    LOAD off    0x00007f70 vaddr 0x20000140 paddr 0x00008158 align 2**3
         filesz 0x00000a80 memsz 0x000022f8 flags rw-
    LOAD off    0x000089f0 vaddr 0x20002438 paddr 0x00008bd8 align 2**0
         filesz 0x00000000 memsz 0x00004000 flags rw-
    LOAD off    0x000089f0 vaddr 0x20000000 paddr 0x20000000 align 2**0
         filesz 0x00000000 memsz 0x00000140 flags rw-

where the segment at paddr 0x8158 has a memsz of 0x2258 and
would overlap with the segment at paddr 0x8bd8 if QEMU's loader
tried to honour it. (At runtime the segments will not overlap
since their vaddrs are more widely spaced than their paddrs.)

Currently if you try to load an ELF file like this with QEMU then
it will fail with an error "rom: requested regions overlap",
because we create a ROM image for each segment using the memsz
as the size.

Support ELF files using this scheme, by truncating the
zero-initialized part of the segment if it would overlap another
segment. This will retain the existing loader behaviour for
all ELF files we currently accept, and also accept ELF files
which only need 'filesz' bytes to be loaded.

f7abe0ecd4 qapi: Change data type of the FOO_lookup generated for enum FOO
Currently, a FOO_lookup is an array of strings terminated by a NULL
sentinel.

A future patch will generate enums with "holes". NULL-termination
will cease to work then.

To prepare for that, store the length in the FOO_lookup by wrapping it
in a struct and adding a member for the length.

The sentinel will be dropped next.

00bbf50a50 tpm: Clean up model registration & lookup
We have a strict separation between enum TpmModel and tpm_models[]:

* TpmModel may have any number of members. It just happens to have one.

* tpm_register_model() uses the first empty slot in tpm_models[].

  If you register more than tpm_models[] has space,
  tpn_register_model() fails. Its caller silently ignores the
  failure.

  Register the same TpmModel more than once has no effect other than
  wasting tpm_models[] slots: tpm_model_is_registered() is happy with
  the first one it finds.

Since we only ever register one model, and tpm_models[] has space for
just that one, this contraption even works.

Turn tpm_models[] into a straight map from enum TpmType to bool. Much
simpler.

a9a72aeefb tpm: Clean up driver registration & lookup
We have a strict separation between enum TpmType and be_drivers[]:

* TpmType may have any number of members. It just happens to have one.

* tpm_register_driver() uses the first empty slot in be_drivers[].

  If you register more than tpm_models[] has space,
  tpm_register_driver() fails. Its caller silently ignores the
  failure.

  If you register more than one with a given TpmType,
  tpm_display_backend_drivers() will shows all of them, but
  tpm_driver_find_by_type() and tpm_get_backend_driver() will find
  only the one one that registered first.

Since we only ever register one driver, and be_drivers[] has space for
just that one, this contraption even works.

Turn be_drivers[] into a straight map from enum TpmType to driver.
Much simpler, and has a decent chance to actually work should we ever
acquire additional drivers.

While there, use qapi_enum_parse() in tpm_get_backend_driver().
