This driver is like virtio-balloon on steroids: it allows both changing the
guest memory allocation via ballooning and (in the next patch) inserting
pieces of extra RAM into it on demand from a provided memory backend.
The actual resizing is done via ballooning interface (for example, via
the "balloon" HMP command).
This includes resizing the guest past its boot size - that is, hot-adding
additional memory in granularity limited only by the guest alignment
requirements, as provided by the next patch.
In contrast with ACPI DIMM hotplug where one can only request to unplug a
whole DIMM stick this driver allows removing memory from guest in single
page (4k) units via ballooning.
After a VM reboot the guest is back to its original (boot) size.
In the future, the guest boot memory size might be changed on reboot
instead, taking into account the effective size that VM had before that
reboot (much like Hyper-V does).
For performance reasons, the guest-released memory is tracked in a few
range trees, as a series of (start, count) ranges.
Each time a new page range is inserted into such tree its neighbors are
checked as candidates for possible merging with it.
Besides performance reasons, the Dynamic Memory protocol itself uses page
ranges as the data structure in its messages, so relevant pages need to be
merged into such ranges anyway.
One has to be careful when tracking the guest-released pages, since the
guest can maliciously report returning pages outside its current address
space, which later clash with the address range of newly added memory.
Similarly, the guest can report freeing the same page twice.
The above design results in much better ballooning performance than when
using virtio-balloon with the same guest: 230 GB / minute with this driver
versus 70 GB / minute with virtio-balloon.
During a ballooning operation most of time is spent waiting for the guest
to come up with newly freed page ranges, processing the received ranges on
the host side (in QEMU and KVM) is nearly instantaneous.
The unballoon operation is also pretty much instantaneous:
thanks to the merging of the ballooned out page ranges 200 GB of memory can
be returned to the guest in about 1 second.
With virtio-balloon this operation takes about 2.5 minutes.
These tests were done against a Windows Server 2019 guest running on a
Xeon E5-2699, after dirtying the whole memory inside guest before each
balloon operation.
Using a range tree instead of a bitmap to track the removed memory also
means that the solution scales well with the guest size: even a 1 TB range
takes just a few bytes of such metadata.
Since the required GTree operations aren't present in every Glib version
a check for them was added to the meson build script, together with new
"--enable-hv-balloon" and "--disable-hv-balloon" configure arguments.
If these GTree operations are missing in the system's Glib version this
driver will be skipped during QEMU build.
An optional "status-report=on" device parameter requests memory status
events from the guest (typically sent every second), which allow the host
to learn both the guest memory available and the guest memory in use
counts.
Following commits will add support for their external emission as
"HV_BALLOON_STATUS_REPORT" QMP events.
The driver is named hv-balloon since the Linux kernel client driver for
the Dynamic Memory Protocol is named as such and to follow the naming
pattern established by the virtio-balloon driver.
The whole protocol runs over Hyper-V VMBus.
The driver was tested against Windows Server 2012 R2, Windows Server 2016
and Windows Server 2019 guests and obeys the guest alignment requirements
reported to the host via DM_CAPABILITIES_REPORT message.

vhost-user-scsi has a VirtioDeviceClass->reset() function that calls
->vhost_reset_device(). The other vhost devices don't notify the vhost
device upon reset.
Stateful vhost devices may need to handle device reset in order to free
resources or prevent stale device state from interfering after reset.
Call ->vhost_device_reset() from virtio_reset() so that that vhost
devices are notified of device reset.
This patch affects behavior as follows:
- vhost-kernel: No change in behavior since ->vhost_reset_device() is
not implemented.
- vhost-user: back-ends that negotiate
VHOST_USER_PROTOCOL_F_RESET_DEVICE now receive a
VHOST_USER_DEVICE_RESET message upon device reset. Otherwise there is
no change in behavior. DPDK, SPDK, libvhost-user, and the
vhost-user-backend crate do not negotiate
VHOST_USER_PROTOCOL_F_RESET_DEVICE automatically.
- vhost-vdpa: an extra SET_STATUS 0 call is made during device reset.

Say QEMU is configured with bindir = "/usr/bin" and a firmware path
that starts with "/usr/share/qemu". Ever since QEMU 5.2, QEMU's
install has been relocatable: if you move qemu-system-x86_64 from
/usr/bin to /home/username/bin, it will start looking for firmware in
/home/username/share/qemu. Previously, you would get a non-relocatable
install where the moved QEMU will keep looking for firmware in
/usr/share/qemu.
Windows almost always wants relocatable installs, and in fact that
is why QEMU 5.2 introduced relocatability in the first place.
However, newfangled distribution mechanisms such as AppImage
(https://docs.appimage.org/reference/best-practices.html), and
possibly NixOS, also dislike using at runtime the absolute paths
that were established at build time.
On POSIX systems you almost never care; if you do, your usecase
dictates which one is desirable, so there's no single answer.
Obviously relocatability works fine most of the time, because not many
people have complained about QEMU's switch to relocatable install,
and that's why until now there was no way to disable relocatability.
But a non-relocatable, non-modular binary can help if you want to do
experiments with old firmware and new QEMU or vice versa (because you
can just upgrade/downgrade the firmware package, and use rpm2cpio or
similar to extract the QEMU binaries outside /usr), so allow both.
This patch allows one to build a non-relocatable install using a new
option to configure. Why? Because it's not too hard, and because
it helps the user double check the relocatability of their install.
Note that the same code that handles relocation also lets you run QEMU
from the build tree and pick e.g. firmware files from the source tree
transparently. Therefore that part remains active with this patch,
even if you configure with --disable-relocatable.

Currently we set _FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 as a compiler argument when the
meson 'optimization' setting is non-zero, the compiler is GCC and
the target is Linux.
While the default QEMU optimization level is 2, user could override
this by setting CFLAGS="-O0" or --extra-cflags="-O0" when running
configure and this won't be reflected in the meson 'optimization'
setting. As a result we try to enable _FORTIFY_SOURCE=2 and then the
user gets compile errors as it only works with optimization.
Rather than trying to improve detection in meson, it is simpler to
just check the __OPTIMIZE__ define from osdep.h.
The comment about being incompatible with clang appears to be
outdated, as compilation works fine without excluding clang.
In the coroutine code we must set _FORTIFY_SOURCE=0 to stop the
logic in osdep.h then enabling it.

These are either built because they are dependencies of other targets,
or not needed at all because they are used via extract_objects().
Mark them as "build_by_default: false"; if applicable, mark them
as "fa" so that -Wl,--whole-archive does not interact with the
linker script used for fuzzing.
(The "fa" hack is brittle; updating to Meson 1.1 would allow using
declare_dependency(objects: ...) instead).

A new enough libfdt is included in all of Debian 11, Ubuntu 20.04
and MSYS2. It has also been included for several minor releases
in Fedora and openSUSE Leap, as well as in CentOS. Therefore
there is no need anymore to ship the sources together with the QEMU
tarballs.
Keep the wrap file so that it can be used with --enable-download,
but do not ship the sources anymore with either archive-source.sh
or make-release.

Commit 0db0fbb5cf ("Add conditional dependency for libkeyutils")
tried to provide a possibility for the user to disable keyutils
if not required by makeing it depend on the keyring feature. This
looked reasonable at a first glance (the unit test in tests/unit/
needs both), but the condition in meson.build fails if the feature
is meant to be detected automatically, and there is also another
spot in backends/meson.build where keyutils is used independently
from keyring. So let's remove the dependency on keyring again and
introduce a proper meson build option instead.

AF_XDP is a network socket family that allows communication directly
with the network device driver in the kernel, bypassing most or all
of the kernel networking stack. In the essence, the technology is
pretty similar to netmap. But, unlike netmap, AF_XDP is Linux-native
and works with any network interfaces without driver modifications.
Unlike vhost-based backends (kernel, user, vdpa), AF_XDP doesn't
require access to character devices or unix sockets. Only access to
the network interface itself is necessary.
This patch implements a network backend that communicates with the
kernel by creating an AF_XDP socket. A chunk of userspace memory
is shared between QEMU and the host kernel. 4 ring buffers (Tx, Rx,
Fill and Completion) are placed in that memory along with a pool of
memory buffers for the packet data. Data transmission is done by
allocating one of the buffers, copying packet data into it and
placing the pointer into Tx ring. After transmission, device will
return the buffer via Completion ring. On Rx, device will take
a buffer form a pre-populated Fill ring, write the packet data into
it and place the buffer into Rx ring.
AF_XDP network backend takes on the communication with the host
kernel and the network interface and forwards packets to/from the
peer device in QEMU.
Usage example:

XDP program bridges the socket with a network interface. It can be
attached to the interface in 2 different modes:
1. skb - this mode should work for any interface and doesn't require
driver support. With a caveat of lower performance.
2. native - this does require support from the driver and allows to
bypass skb allocation in the kernel and potentially use
zero-copy while getting packets in/out userspace.
By default, QEMU will try to use native mode and fall back to skb.
Mode can be forced via 'mode' option. To force 'copy' even in native
mode, use 'force-copy=on' option. This might be useful if there is
some issue with the driver.
Option 'queues=N' allows to specify how many device queues should
be open. Note that all the queues that are not open are still
functional and can receive traffic, but it will not be delivered to
QEMU. So, the number of device queues should generally match the
QEMU configuration, unless the device is shared with something
else and the traffic re-direction to appropriate queues is correctly
configured on a device level (e.g. with ethtool -N).
'start-queue=M' option can be used to specify from which queue id
QEMU should start configuring 'N' queues. It might also be necessary
to use this option with certain NICs, e.g. MLX5 NICs. See the docs
for examples.
In a general case QEMU will need CAP_NET_ADMIN and CAP_SYS_ADMIN
or CAP_BPF capabilities in order to load default XSK/XDP programs to
the network interface and configure BPF maps. It is possible, however,
to run with no capabilities. For that to work, an external process
with enough capabilities will need to pre-load default XSK program,
create AF_XDP sockets and pass their file descriptors to QEMU process
on startup via 'sock-fds' option. Network backend will need to be
configured with 'inhibit=on' to avoid loading of the program.
QEMU will need 32 MB of locked memory (RLIMIT_MEMLOCK) per queue
or CAP_IPC_LOCK.
There are few performance challenges with the current network backends.
First is that they do not support IO threads. This means that data
path is handled by the main thread in QEMU and may slow down other
work or may be slowed down by some other work. This also means that
taking advantage of multi-queue is generally not possible today.
Another thing is that data path is going through the device emulation
code, which is not really optimized for performance. The fastest
"frontend" device is virtio-net. But it's not optimized for heavy
traffic either, because it expects such use-cases to be handled via
some implementation of vhost (user, kernel, vdpa). In practice, we
have virtio notifications and rcu lock/unlock on a per-packet basis
and not very efficient accesses to the guest memory. Communication
channels between backend and frontend devices do not allow passing
more than one packet at a time as well.
Some of these challenges can be avoided in the future by adding better
batching into device emulation or by implementing vhost-af-xdp variant.
There are also a few kernel limitations. AF_XDP sockets do not
support any kinds of checksum or segmentation offloading. Buffers
are limited to a page size (4K), i.e. MTU is limited. Multi-buffer
support implementation for AF_XDP is in progress, but not ready yet.
Also, transmission in all non-zero-copy modes is synchronous, i.e.
done in a syscall. That doesn't allow high packet rates on virtual
interfaces.
However, keeping in mind all of these challenges, current implementation
of the AF_XDP backend shows a decent performance while running on top
of a physical NIC with zero-copy support.
Test setup:
2 VMs running on 2 physical hosts connected via ConnectX6-Dx card.
Network backend is configured to open the NIC directly in native mode.
The driver supports zero-copy. NIC is configured to use 1 queue.
Inside a VM - iperf3 for basic TCP performance testing and dpdk-testpmd
for PPS testing.
iperf3 result:
TCP stream : 19.1 Gbps
dpdk-testpmd (single queue, single CPU core, 64 B packets) results:
Tx only : 3.4 Mpps
Rx only : 2.0 Mpps
L2 FWD Loopback : 1.5 Mpps
In skb mode the same setup shows much lower performance, similar to
the setup where pair of physical NICs is replaced with veth pair:

dpdk-testpmd (single queue, single CPU core, 64 B packets) results:
Tx only : 1.2 Mpps
Rx only : 1.0 Mpps
L2 FWD Loopback : 0.7 Mpps
Results in skb mode or over the veth are close to results of a tap
backend with vhost=on and disabled segmentation offloading bridged
with a NIC.

Universal Flash Storage (UFS) is a high-performance mass storage device
with a serial interface. It is primarily used as a high-performance
data storage device for embedded applications.
This commit contains code for UFS device to be recognized

There are no config-host.mak symbols anymore that are needed in
config-host.h; the only symbols that are included in config_host_data via
the foreach loop are:
- CONFIG_DEFAULT_TARGETS, which is not used by C code.
- CONFIG_TCG and CONFIG_TCG_INTERPRETER, which are not part of config-host.mak
So, list these two symbols explicitly.

CONFIG_SOLARIS is only used to pick tap implementations. But the
target OS is invariant and does not depend on the configuration, so move
away from config_host and just use unconditional rules in softmmu_ss.

While the option still needs to be parsed in the configure script
(it's needed by tests/tcg, and also to decide about recursing
into contrib/plugins), passing it to Meson can be done with -D

Unsupported CPU and OSes are not really going away, but the
project simply does not guarantee that they work. Rephrase
the messages accordingly. While at it, move the warning for
TCI performance at the end where it is more visible.

Recent versions of macOS use clang instead of gcc. The OS_OBJECT_USE_OBJC
define is only necessary when building with gcc. Let's not define it when
building with clang.
With this patch, I can successfully include GCD headers in QEMU when
building with clang.

HAX is deprecated since commits 73741fda6c ("MAINTAINERS: Abort
HAXM maintenance") and 90c167a1da ("docs/about/deprecated: Mark
HAXM in QEMU as deprecated"), released in v8.0.0.
Per the latest HAXM release (v7.8 [*]), the latest QEMU supported
is v7.2:

It became very hard to build and test HAXM. Its previous
maintainers made it clear they won't help. It doesn't seem to be
a very good use of QEMU maintainers to spend their time in a dead
project. Save our time by removing this orphan zombie code.

We are not mixing C++ with C code anymore, the only remaining
C++ code in qga/vss-win32/ is used for a plain C++ executable.
Thus we can remove the hacks for linking C code with the C++ linker
now to simplify meson.build a little bit, and also to avoid that
some C++ code sneaks in by accident again.

As recent CVE-2023-2861 (fixed by f6b0de53fb) once again showed, the 9p
'proxy' fs driver is in bad shape. Using the 'proxy' backend was already
discouraged for safety reasons before and we recommended to use the
'local' backend (preferably in conjunction with its 'mapped' security
model) instead, but now it is time to officially deprecate the 'proxy'
backend.

Since MinGW commit 395dcfdea ("rename hyper-v headers and def
files to lower case") [*], WinHvPlatform.h and WinHvEmulation.h
got respectively renamed as winhvplatform.h / winhvemulation.h.
The mingw64-headers package included in the Fedora version we
use for CI does include this commit; and meson fails to detect
these present-but-renamed headers while cross-building (on
case-sensitive filesystems).
Use the renamed header in order to detect and successfully
cross-build with the WHPX accelerator.
Note, on Windows hosts, the libraries are still named as
WinHvPlatform.dll and WinHvEmulation.dll, so we don't bother
renaming the definitions used by load_whp_dispatch_fns() in
target/i386/whpx/whpx-all.c.

D-Bus doesn't support fd-passing on Windows (AF_UNIX doesn't have
SCM_RIGHTS yet, but there are other means to share objects. I have
proposed various solutions upstream, but none seem fitting enough atm).
To make the "-display dbus" work on Windows, implement an alternative
D-Bus interface where all the 'h' (FDs) arguments are replaced with
'ay' (WSASocketW data), and sockets are passed to the other end via
WSADuplicateSocket().

RDPID corresponds to a RDMSR(TSC_AUX); however, it is unprivileged
so for user-mode emulation we must provide the value that the kernel
places in the MSR. For Linux, it is a combination of the current CPU
and the current NUMA node, both of which can be retrieved with getcpu(2).
Also try sched_getcpu(), which might be there on the BSDs. If there is
no portable way to retrieve the current CPU id from userspace, return 0.
RDTSCP is reimplemented as RDTSC + RDPID ECX; the differences in terms
of serializability are not relevant to QEMU.

We use the user_ss[] array to hold the user emulation sources,
and the softmmu_ss[] array to hold the system emulation ones.
Hold the latter in the 'system_ss[]' array for parity with user
emulation.

In restructuring to allow for internal emulation of Xen functionality,
I broke compatibility for Xen 4.6 and earlier. Fix this by explicitly
removing support for anything older than 4.7.1, which is also ancient
but it does still build, and the compatibility support for it is fairly
unintrusive.

Compared to submodules, .wrap files have several advantages:
* option parsing and downloading is delegated to meson
* the commit is stored in a text file instead of a magic entry in the
git tree object
* we could stop shipping external dependencies that are only used as a
fallback, but not break compilation on platforms that lack them.
For example it may make sense to download dtc at build time, controlled
by --enable-download, even when building from a tarball. Right now,
this patch does the opposite: make-release treats dtc like libvfio-user
(which is not stable API and therefore hasn't found its way into any
distros) and keycodemap (which is a copylib, for better or worse).
dependency() can fall back to a wrap automatically. However, this
is only possible for libraries that come with a .pc file, and this
is not very common for libfdt even though the upstream project in
principle provides it; it also removes the control that we provide with
--enable-fdt={system,internal}. Therefore, the logic to pick system
vs. internal libfdt is left untouched.
--enable-fdt=git is removed; it was already a synonym for
--enable-fdt=internal.

The behavior of --{enable,disable}-pypi is similar to that of
-Dwrapmode={default,nodownload} respectively. In particular,
in both cases a feature needs to be explicitly enabled for the
dependency to be downloaded.
So, use a single option to control both cases. Now, --enable-slirp
will trigger cloning and building of libslirp if the .pc file
is not found on the machine.

The scenario for which --with-git= was introduced was to use a SOCKS proxy
such as tsocks. However, this was back in 2017 when QEMU's submodules
used the git:// protocol, and it is not as important when using the
"smart HTTP" backend; for example, neither "meson subprojects download"
nor scripts/checkpatch.pl obey the GIT environment variable.
So remove the knob, but test for the presence of git in the configure and
git-submodule.sh scripts, and suggest using --with-git-submodules=validate
+ a manual invocation of git-submodule.sh when git does not work. Hopefully
in the future the GIT environment variable will be supported by Meson.

Commit 1b0578f5c4 ("qemu-pr-helper: Fix build on CentOS 7") added
code to probe for 'old' libmultipath API on CentOS 7. However since
merge commit 8c345b3e6a (June 2021) we don't build/test CentOS 7 as
it felt out of our list of supported distrib versions. Therefore we
can safely remove the 'old' API check (mostly reverting commit
1b0578f5c4, except the code got converted to meson in commit
6ec0e15d95 "meson: move libmpathpersist test").

There is no need to disable this useful compiler warning for
all versions of the SDL. Unfortunately, various versions are
buggy (beside SDL 2.0.8, the version 2.26.0 and 2.26.1 are
broken, too, see https://github.com/libsdl-org/SDL/issues/6619 ),
but we can use a simple compiler check to see whether we need
the -Wno-undef or not.
This also enables the printing of the version number with
good versions of the SDL in the summary of the meson output
again.

While detecting a presence of a function via 'cc.links()'
gives desired result (i.e. detects whether function is present),
it also produces a warning on systems where the function is not
present (into meson-log.txt), e.g.:
qemu.git/build/meson-private/tmph74x3p38/testfile.c:2:34: \
warning: implicit declaration of function 'malloc_trim' [-Wimplicit-function-declaration]
And some distributions (e.g. Gentoo) parse the meson log and
consider these erroneous because it can lead to feature
misdetection (see [1]).
We can check whether given function exists via
'cc.has_function()' or whether STATX_* macros exist via
'cc.has_header_symbol()'.

The virtio-blk-vhost-vdpa driver in libblkio 1.3.0 supports the fd
passing through the new 'fd' property.
Since now we are using qemu_open() on '@path' if the virtio-blk driver
supports the fd passing, let's announce it.
In this way, the management layer can pass the file descriptor of an
already opened vhost-vdpa character device. This is useful especially
when the device can only be accessed with certain privileges.
Add the '@fdset' feature only when the virtio-blk-vhost-vdpa driver
in libblkio supports it.

Older versions of clang have missing runtime functions for arithmetic
with -fsanitize=undefined (see 464e3671f9), so we cannot use
__int128_t for implementing Int128. But __int128_t is present,
data movement works, and it can be used for atomic128.
Probe for both CONFIG_INT128_TYPE and CONFIG_INT128, adjust
qemu/int128.h to define Int128Alias if CONFIG_INT128_TYPE,
and adjust the meson probe for atomics to use has_int128_type.

Setting the MAKE variable to a GNU Make executable does not really have
any effect: if a non-GNU Make is used, the QEMU Makefile will fail to
parse. Just remove everything related to --make and $make as dead code.

Recent dtc/libfdt can use either Make or meson as the build system.
By using a subproject, our own meson.build can remove the hard
coded list of source files.
This is also the first step towards managing downloads with .wrap

fdt_opt == 'disabled' is going to give an error if libfdt is required
by any target, so catch that immediately. For fdt_opt == 'enabled',
instead, do not check immediately whether the internal libfdt is present.
Instead do the check after ascertaining that libfdt is absent or too old.

The large comment in the patch says it all; the -no-pie flag is broken and
this is why it was not included in QEMU_LDFLAGS before commit a988b4c561
("build: move remaining compiler flag tests to meson", 2023-05-18). And
some distros made things even worse, so we have to add it to the compiler
command line.

We want to only enable '-Wno-unused-function' if glib's version is
smaller than '2.57.2' and has a G_DEFINE_AUTOPTR_CLEANUP_FUNC()
implementation that doesn't take into account unused functions. But the
compilation test isn't working as intended as '-Wunused-function' isn't
enabled while running it.
Let's enable it.

Remove the only remaining uses of QEMU_CFLAGS. Now that no

Meson already knows to test with the positive form of the flag, which
simplifies the test. Warnings are now tested explicitly for the C++
compiler, instead of hardcoding those that are only available for
the C language.
At this point all compiler flags in QEMU_CFLAGS are global and only
depend on the OS. No feature tests are performed in configure.

Clean up the handling of compiler flags in meson.build, splitting
the general flags that should be included in subprojects as well,
from warning flags that only apply to QEMU itself. The two were
mixed in both configure tests and meson tests.
This split makes it easier to move the compiler tests piecewise
from configure to Meson.

QEMU adds the path to glib.h to all compilation commands. This is simpler
due to the pervasive use of static_library, and was grandfathered in from
the previous Make-based build system. Until Meson 0.63 the only way to
do this was to detect glib in configure and use add_project_arguments,
but now it is possible to use add_project_dependencies instead.
gmodule is detected in a separate variable, with export enabled for
modules and disabled for plugin.

Whenever declare_dependency is used to add some compile flags or dependent
libraries to the outcome of dependency(), the version of the original
dependency is dropped in the summary. Make sure that declare_dependency()
has a version argument in those cases.

This version allows cleanups in modinfo collection, but they only
work with Ninja 1.9.x and 1.8.x is still supported. It also supports the
equivalent of QEMU's --static option to configure.
The wheel file is bumped to 0.63.3, the last release in the 0.63 branch.

Add zoned device option to host_device BlockDriver. It will be presented only
for zoned host block devices. By adding zone management operations to the
host_block_device BlockDriver, users can use the new block layer APIs
including Report Zone and four zone management operations
(open, close, finish, reset, reset_all).
Qemu-io uses the new APIs to perform zoned storage commands of the device:
zone_report(zrp), zone_open(zo), zone_close(zc), zone_reset(zrs),
zone_finish(zf).
For example, to test zone_report, use following command:
$ ./build/qemu-io --image-opts -n driver=host_device, filename=/dev/nullb0

reader_count() is a performance bottleneck because the global
aio_context_list_lock mutex causes thread contention. Put this debugging
assertion behind a new ./configure --enable-debug-graph-lock option and
disable it by default.
The --enable-debug-graph-lock option is also enabled by the more general
--enable-debug option.

meson.build files choose whether to build modules based on foo.found()
expressions. If a feature is enabled (e.g. --enable-gtk), these expressions
are true even if the code is not used by any emulator, and this results
in an unexpected difference between modular and non-modular builds.
For non-modular builds, the files are not included in any binary, and
therefore the source files are never processed. For modular builds,
however, all .so files are unconditionally built by default, and therefore
a normal "make" tries to build them. However, the corresponding trace-*.h
files are absent due to this conditional:

which was added to avoid wasting time running tracetool on unused trace-events
files. This causes a compilation failure; fix it by skipping module builds
entirely if (depending on the module directory) have_block or have_system
are false.

This commit adds a new audiodev backend to allow QEMU to use Pipewire as
both an audio sink and source. This backend is available on most systems
Add Pipewire entry points for QEMU Pipewire audio backend
Add wrappers for QEMU Pipewire audio backend in qpw_pcm_ops()
qpw_write function returns the current state of the stream to pwaudio
and Writes some data to the server for playback streams using pipewire
spa_ringbuffer implementation.
qpw_read function returns the current state of the stream to pwaudio and
reads some data from the server for capture streams using pipewire
spa_ringbuffer implementation. These functions qpw_write and qpw_read
are called during playback and capture.
Added some functions that convert pw audio formats to QEMU audio format
and vice versa which would be needed in the pipewire audio sink and
source functions qpw_init_in() & qpw_init_out().
These methods that implement playback and recording will create streams
for playback and capture that will start processing and will result in
the on_process callbacks to be called.
Built a connection to the Pipewire sound system server in the
qpw_audio_init() method.

The XEN_EMU option will cover core Xen support in target/, which exists
only for x86 with KVM today but could theoretically also be implemented
on Arm/Aarch64 and with TCG or other accelerators (if anyone wants to
run the gauntlet of struct layout compatibility, errno mapping, and the
rest of that fui).
It will also cover the support for architecture-independent grant table
and event channel support which will be added in hw/i386/kvm/ (on the
basis that the non-KVM support is very theoretical and making it not use
KVM directly seems like gratuitous overengineering at this point).
The XEN_BUS option is for the xenfv platform support, which will now be
used both by XEN_EMU and by real Xen.
The XEN option remains dependent on the Xen runtime libraries, and covers
support for real Xen. Some code which currently resides under CONFIG_XEN
will be moving to CONFIG_XEN_BUS over time as the direct dependencies on
Xen runtime libraries are eliminated. The Xen PCI platform device will
also reside under CONFIG_XEN_BUS.

Windows implementation of setjmp/longjmp is done in
C:/WINDOWS/system32/ucrtbase.dll. Alas, on arm64, it seems to *always*
perform stack unwinding, which crashes from generated code.
By using alternative implementation built in mingw, we avoid doing stack
unwinding and this fixes crash when calling longjmp.

Fork-fuzzing provides a few pros, but our implementation prevents us
from using fuzzers other than libFuzzer, and may be causing issues such
as coverage-failure builds on OSS-Fuzz. It is not a great long-term
solution as it depends on internal implementation details of libFuzzer
(which is no longer in active development). Remove it in favor of other
methods of resetting state between inputs.

Static QEMU build fails on Debian Bullseye:
/usr/bin/ld: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libdw.a(debuginfod-client.o): in function `__libdwfl_debuginfod_init':
(.text.startup+0x17): undefined reference to `dlopen'
The reason is that pkg-config does not suggest -ldl for libdw, and
adding --extra-ldflags="-ldl" resolves the issue. However, static
linking with libdw is an unclear topic:
* Linux perf does it.
* Debian's libdw-dev description says:
Only link to the static version for special cases and when you
don't need anything from the ebl backends.
* As the error message above indicates, -ldl is also needed for
debuginfod support.
The functionality provided by libdw is needed for analyzing performance
of JITed code, which is mostly useful to developers and researchers.
Therefore, in order to avoid unpleasant surprises for people who don't
need this, simply disable libdw for static builds by default. It can
still be enabled explicitly if needed.

This commit is the same with [PATCH v6 1/2], and provides avx512 support for xbzrle_encode_buffer
function to accelerate xbzrle encoding speed. Runtime check of avx512
support and benchmark for this feature are added. Compared with C
version of xbzrle_encode_buffer function, avx512 version can achieve
50%-70% performance improvement on benchmarking. In addition, if dirty
data is randomly located in 4K page, the avx512 version can achieve
almost 140% performance gain.

glibc has fixed (in 2.36.9000-40-g774058d729) the problem
that caused a clash when both sys/mount.h annd linux/mount.h
are included, and backported this to the 2.36 stable release
too:

It is saner for QEMU to remove the workaround it applied for

in linux/mount.h via linux/fs.h since Linux 6.1

On msys2, the shader-to-C script produces bad C:
./ui/shader/texture-blit-vert.h:2:5: error: missing terminating " character [-Werror]
Fix it by changing the line ending from crlf to lf, and convert the

Use the attribute, which is supported by clang, instead of
the #pragma, which is not supported and, for some reason,
also not detected by the meson probe, so we fail by -Werror.
Include only <immintrin.h> as that is the outermost "official"
header for these intrinsics -- emmintrin.h and smmintrin -- are
older SSE2 and SSE4 specific headers, while the immintrin.h
includes all of the Intel intrinsics.

Add libdw-based functions for loading and querying debuginfo. Load
debuginfo from the system and the linux-user loaders.
This is useful for the upcoming perf support, which can then put
human-readable guest symbols instead of raw guest PCs into perfmap and
jitdump files.

In Meson 0.64, the optimization built-in option now accepts the "plain" value,
which will not set any optimization flags. While QEMU does not check the
contents of the option and therefore does not suffer any ill effect
from the new value, it uses get_option to print the optimization flags
in the summary. Clean the code up to remove duplication, and check for
-Doptimization=plain at the same time.

meson.build has been enabling ASLR _only_ for debug builds since
commit d2147e04f9 ("configure: move Windows flags detection to meson",
2022-05-07); instead it was supposed to disable it for debug builds.
However, the flag has been enabled for DLLs upstream for roughly 2
years (https://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=19011), and
also by some distros including Debian for 6 years even
(https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=836365).
Enable it unconditionally; we can fix the reversed logic of commit
d2147e04f9 later if there are any reports, but for now just
enable the hardening.
Also add -Wl,--high-entropy-va, which also controls ASLR.

If a memory-backend is configured with mode
HOST_MEM_POLICY_PREFERRED then
host_memory_backend_memory_complete() calls mbind() as:
mbind(..., MPOL_PREFERRED, nodemask, ...);
Here, 'nodemask' is a bitmap of host NUMA nodes and corresponds
to the .host-nodes attribute. Therefore, there can be multiple
nodes specified. However, the documentation to MPOL_PREFERRED
says:
MPOL_PREFERRED
This mode sets the preferred node for allocation. ...
If nodemask specifies more than one node ID, the first node
in the mask will be selected as the preferred node.
Therefore, only the first node is honored and the rest is
silently ignored. Well, with recent changes to the kernel and
numactl we can do better.
The Linux kernel added in v5.15 via commit cfcaa66f8032
("mm/hugetlb: add support for mempolicy MPOL_PREFERRED_MANY")
support for MPOL_PREFERRED_MANY, which accepts multiple preferred
NUMA nodes instead.
Then, numa_has_preferred_many() API was introduced to numactl
(v2.0.15~26) allowing applications to query kernel support.
Wiring this all together, we can pass MPOL_PREFERRED_MANY to the
mbind() call instead and stop ignoring multiple nodes, silently.

The GTK Clipboard implementation may cause guest hangs.
Therefore implement new configure switch: --enable-gtk-clipboard,
as a meson option disabled by default, which warns in the help
text about the experimental nature of the feature.
Regenerate the meson build options to include it.
The initialization of the clipboard is gtk.c, as well as the
compilation of gtk-clipboard.c are now conditional on this new
option to be set.

meson.build has one test where "main" is declared unnecessarily
with argc and argv arguments, but does not use them. Because
the test needs -Werror too, HAVE_BROKEN_SIZE_MAX is defined
incorrectly.
Fix the test and, for consistency, remove argc and argv whenever
they are not needed.
