removes the implicit monitor_add_blk() call from blk_new() (and
consequently the monitor_remove_blk() call from blk_delete(), too) and
thus blk_new() (and related functions) no longer take a BB name
argument.
In fact, there is only a single point where blk_new()/blk_new_open() is
called and the new BB is monitor-owned, and that is in blockdev_init().
Besides thus relieving us from having to invent names for all of the BBs
we use in qemu-img, this fixes a bug where qemu cannot create a new
image if there already is a monitor-owned BB named "image".
If a BB and its BDS tree are created in a single operation, as of this

qemu_clock_warp function is called to update virtual clock when CPU
is sleeping. This function includes replay checkpoint to make execution
deterministic in icount mode.
Record/replay module flushes async event queue at checkpoints.
Some of the events (e.g., block devices operations) include interaction
with hardware. E.g., APIC polled by block devices sets one of IRQ flags.
Flag to be set depends on currently executed thread (CPU or iothread).
Therefore in replay mode we have to process the checkpoints in the same thread
as they were recorded.
qemu_clock_warp function (and its checkpoint) may be called from different
thread. This patch decouples two different execution cases of this function:
call when CPU is sleeping from iothread and call from cpu thread to update
virtual clock.
First task is performed by qemu_start_warp_timer function. It sets warp
timer event to the moment of nearest pending virtual timer.
Second function (qemu_account_warp_timer) is called from cpu thread
before execution of the code. It advances virtual clock by adding the length
of period while CPU was sleeping.

Now that QEMU wraps the Win32 sockets methods to automatically
set errno upon failure, there is no reason for callers to use
the socket_error() method. They can rely on accessing errno
even on Win32. Remove all use of socket_error() from general
code, leaving it as a static method in oslib-win32.c only.
Signed-off-by: Daniel P. Berrange <berrange@redhat.com>
The windows socket functions look identical to the normal POSIX
sockets functions, but instead of setting errno, the caller needs
to call WSAGetLastError(). QEMU has tried to deal with this
incompatibility by defining a socket_error() method that callers
must use that abstracts the difference between WSAGetLastError()
and errno.
This approach is somewhat error prone though - many callers of
the sockets functions are just using errno directly because it
is easy to forget the need use a QEMU specific wrapper. It is
not always immediately obvious that a particular function will
in fact call into Windows sockets functions, so the dev may not
even realize they need to use socket_error().
This introduces an alternative approach to portability inspired
by the way GNULIB fixes portability problems. We use a macro to
redefine the original socket function names to refer to a QEMU
wrapper function. The wrapper function calls the original Win32
sockets method and then sets errno from the WSAGetLastError()
value.
Thus all code can simply call the normal POSIX sockets APIs are
have standard errno reporting on error, even on Windows. This
makes the socket_error() method obsolete.
We also bring closesocket & ioctlsocket into this approach. Even
though they are non-standard Win32 names, we can't wrap the normal
close/ioctl methods since there's no reliable way to distinguish
between a file descriptor and HANDLE in Win32.
Signed-off-by: Daniel P. Berrange <berrange@redhat.com>
Historically QEMU has had a socket_error() macro that was
defined to map to WSASocketError(). The os-win32.h header
file would define errno constants that mapped to the
WSA error constants. This worked fine with Mingw32 since
its header files never defined any errno values, nor did
it even provide an errno.h. So callers of socket_error()
could match on traditional Exxxx constants and it would
all "just work".
With Mingw64 though, things work rather differently. First
there is an errno.h file which defines all the traditional
errno constants you'd expect from a UNIX platform. There
is then a winerror.h which defined the WSA error constants.
Crucially the WSAExxxx errno values in winerror.h do not
match the Exxxx errno values in error.h.
If QEMU had only imported winerror.h it would still work,
but the qemu/osdep.h file unconditionally imports errno.h.
So callers of socket_error() will get now WSAExxxx values
back and compare them to the Exxx constants. This will
always fail silently at runtime.
To solve this QEMU needs to stop assuming the WSAExxxx
constant values match the Exxx constant values. Thus the
socket_error() macro is turned into a small function that
re-maps WSAExxxx values into Exxx.

Typically a UNIX guest OS will log boot messages to a serial
port in addition to any graphical console. An admin user
may also wish to use the serial port for an interactive
console. A virtualization management system may wish to
collect system boot messages by logging the serial port,
but also wish to allow admins interactive access.
Currently providing such a feature forces the mgmt app
to either provide 2 separate serial ports, one for
logging boot messages and one for interactive console
login, or to proxy all output via a separate service
that can multiplex the two needs onto one serial port.
While both are valid approaches, they each have their
own downsides. The former causes confusion and extra
setup work for VM admins creating disk images. The latter
places an extra burden to re-implement much of the QEMU
chardev backends logic in libvirt or even higher level
mgmt apps and adds extra hops in the data transfer path.
A simpler approach that is satisfactory for many use
cases is to allow the QEMU chardev backends to have a
"logfile" property associated with them.
$QEMU -chardev socket,host=localhost,port=9000,\
server=on,nowait,id-charserial0,\
logfile=/var/log/libvirt/qemu/test-serial0.log
-device isa-serial,chardev=charserial0,id=serial0
This patch introduces a 'ChardevCommon' struct which
is setup as a base for all the ChardevBackend types.
Ideally this would be registered directly as a base
against ChardevBackend, rather than each type, but
the QAPI generator doesn't allow that since the
ChardevBackend is a non-discriminated union. The
ChardevCommon struct provides the optional 'logfile'
parameter, as well as 'logappend' which controls
whether QEMU truncates or appends (default truncate).

This patch adds support for split IRQ chip mode. When
KVM_CAP_SPLIT_IRQCHIP is enabled:
1.) The PIC, PIT, and IOAPIC are implemented in userspace while
the LAPIC is implemented by KVM.
2.) The software IOAPIC delivers interrupts to the KVM LAPIC via
kvm_set_irq. Interrupt delivery is configured via the MSI routing
table, for which routes are reserved in target-i386/kvm.c then
configured in hw/intc/ioapic.c
3.) KVM delivers IOAPIC EOIs via a new exit KVM_EXIT_IOAPIC_EOI,
which is handled in target-i386/kvm.c and relayed to the software
IOAPIC via ioapic_eoi_broadcast.

Postcopy detects accesses to pages that haven't been transferred yet
using userfaultfd, and it causes exceptions on pages that are 'not
present'.
Ballooning also causes pages to be marked as 'not present' when the
guest inflates the balloon.
Potentially a balloon could be inflated to discard pages that are
currently inflight during postcopy and that may be arriving at about
the same time.
To avoid this confusion, disable ballooning during postcopy.
When disabled we drop balloon requests from the guest. Since ballooning
is generally initiated by the host, the management system should avoid
initiating any balloon instructions to the guest during migration,
although it's not possible to know how long it would take a guest to
process a request made prior to the start of migration.
Guest initiated ballooning will not know if it's really freed a page
of host memory or not.
Queueing the requests until after migration would be nice, but is
non-trivial, since the set of inflate/deflate requests have to
be compared with the state of the page to know what the final
outcome is allowed to be.

Clock ticks are considered as the sources of non-deterministic data for
virtual machine. This patch implements saving the clock values when they
are acquired (virtual, host clock).
When replaying the execution corresponding values are read from log and
transfered to the module, which wants to read the values.
Such a design required the clock polling to be synchronized. Sometimes
it is not true - e.g. when timeouts for timer lists are checked. In this case
we use a cached value of the clock, passing it to the client code.

The oslib-win32 file currently provides a localtime_r and
gmtime_r replacement unconditionally. Some versions of
Mingw-w64 would provide crude macros for localtime_r/gmtime_r
which QEMU takes care to disable. Latest versions of Mingw-w64
now provide actual functions for localtime_r/gmtime_r, but
with a twist that you have to include unistd.h or pthread.h
before including time.h. By luck some files in QEMU have
such an include order, resulting in compile errors:

This change adds a configure test to see if localtime_r
exits, and only enables the QEMU impl if missing. We also
re-arrange qemu-common.h try attempt to guarantee that all
source files get unistd.h before time.h and thus see the
localtime_r/gmtime_r defs.

Some functions previously used only by vGICv2 are useful also for vGICv3
implementation. Untie them from GICState and make accessible from within
other modules:
- kvm_arm_gic_set_irq()
- kvm_gic_supports_attr() - moved to common code and renamed to
kvm_device_check_attr()
- kvm_gic_access() - turned into GIC-independent kvm_device_access().
Data pointer changed to void * because some GICv3 registers are
64-bit wide
Some of these changes are not used right now, but they will be helpful for
implementing live migration.
Actually kvm_dist_get() and kvm_dist_put() could also be made reusable, but
they would require two extra parameters (s->dev_fd and s->num_cpu) as well as
lots of typecasts of 's' to DeviceState * and back to GICState *. This makes
the code very ugly so i decided to stop at this point. I tried also an
approach with making a base class for all possible GICs, but it would contain
only three variables (dev_fd, cpu_num and irq_num), and accessing them through
the rest of the code would be again tedious (either ugly casts or qemu-style
separate object pointer). So i disliked it too.

All QMP commands use the "new" handler interface (mhandler.cmd_new).
Most HMP commands still use the traditional interface (mhandler.cmd),
but a few use the "new" one. Complicates handle_user_command() for no
gain, so I'm converting these to the traditional interface.
pcie_aer_inject_error's implementation is split into the
hmp_pcie_aer_inject_error() and pcie_aer_inject_error_print(). The
former is a peculiar crossbreed between HMP and QMP handler. On
success, it works like a QMP handler: store QDict through ret_data
parameter, return 0. Printing the QDict is left to
pcie_aer_inject_error_print(). On failure, it works more like an HMP
handler: print error to monitor, return negative number.
To convert to the traditional interface, turn
pcie_aer_inject_error_print() into a command handler wrapping around
hmp_pcie_aer_inject_error(). By convention, this command handler
should be called hmp_pcie_aer_inject_error(), so rename the existing
hmp_pcie_aer_inject_error() to do_pcie_aer_inject_error().

Conflicts:
hw/pci/pci-hotplug-old.c
Commit 79ca616 (v1.6.0) accidentally disabled legacy x86-only HMP
commands pci_add, pci_del: it defined CONFIG_PCI_HOTPLUG only as make
variable, not as preprocessor macro, killing the code conditional on
defined(CONFIG_PCI_HOTPLUG_OLD).
In all this time, nobody reported the loss. I only noticed it when I
tried to test some error reporting change that forced me to touch this
old crap again.
Fun: git-log hw/pci/pci-hotplug-old.c shows our faith in the backward
compatibility god has been strong enough to sacrifice at its altar
about a dozen times, but not strong enough to even once verify the
legacy feature's still there, let alone works.

blk_new_with_bs() creates a BlockBackend with an empty BlockDriverState
attached to it. Empty BDSs are not nice, therefore add an alternative
function which combines blk_new_with_bs() with bdrv_open().
Note: In contrast to bdrv_open() which takes a BlockDriver parameter,
blk_new_open() does not take such a parameter. This is because
bdrv_open() opens a BlockDriverState, therefore it is natural to be able
to set the BlockDriver for that BDS. The fact that bdrv_open() can open
more than a single BDS is merely some form of a byproduct.
blk_new_open() on the other hand is intended to be used to create a
whole tree of BlockDriverStates. Therefore, setting a single BlockDriver
does not make much sense. Instead, the drivers to be used for each of
the nodes must be configured through the "options" QDict; including the
driver of the root BDS.

Some ppc machines create a default usb controller based on a 'machine condition'.
Until now the logic was: create the usb controller if:
- the usb option was supplied in cli and value is true or
- the usb option was absent and both set_defaults and the machine
condition were true.
Modified the logic to:
Create the usb controller if:
- the machine condition is true and defaults are enabled or
- the usb option is supplied and true.
The main for this is to simplify the usb_enabled method.

Adding something like a "delete notifier" to a BlockBackend would not
make much sense, because whoever is interested in registering there will
probably hold a reference to that BlockBackend; therefore, the notifier
will never be called (or only when the notifiee already relinquished its
reference and thus most probably is no longer interested in that
notification).
Therefore, this patch just passes through the close notifier interface

blockdev_init() always creates a DriveInfo, but only drive_new() fills
it in. qmp_blockdev_add() leaves it blank. This results in a drive
with type = IF_IDE, bus = 0, unit = 0. Screwed up in commit ee13ed1c.
Board initialization code looking for IDE drive (0,0) can pick up one
of these bogus drives. The QMP command has to execute really early to
be visible. Not sure how likely that is in practice.
Fix by creating DriveInfo in drive_new(). Block backends created by
blockdev-add don't get one.
Breaks the test for "has been created by qmp_blockdev_add()" in
blockdev_mark_auto_del() and do_drive_del(), because it changes the
value of dinfo && !dinfo->enable_auto_del from true to false. Simply
test !dinfo instead.
Leaves DriveInfo member enable_auto_del unused. Drop it.

block-backend.h API. Convert them, and drop direct includes of
inappropriate headers.
Just four uses of BlockDriverState are left:
* The Xen paravirtual block device backend (xen_disk.c) opens images
itself when set up via xenbus, bypassing blockdev.c. I figure it
should go through qmp_blockdev_add() instead.
* Device model "usb-storage" prompts for keys. No other device model
does, and this one probably shouldn't do it, either.
* ide_issue_trim_cb() uses bdrv_aio_discard() instead of
blk_aio_discard() because it fishes its backend out of a BlockAIOCB,
which has only the BlockDriverState.
* PC87312State has an unused BlockDriverState[] member.

Convenience function blk_new_with_bs() creates a BlockBackend with its
BlockDriverState. Callers have to unref both. The commit after next
will relieve them of the need to unref the BlockDriverState.
Complication: due to the silly way drive_del works, we need a way to
hide a BlockBackend, just like bdrv_make_anon(). To emphasize its
"special" status, give the function a suitably off-putting name:
blk_hide_on_behalf_of_do_drive_del(). Unfortunately, hiding turns the
BlockBackend's name into the empty string. Can't avoid that without
breaking the blk->bs->device_name equals blk->name invariant.

A block device consists of a frontend device model and a backend.
A block backend has a tree of block drivers doing the actual work.
The tree is managed by the block layer.
We currently use a single abstraction BlockDriverState both for tree
nodes and the backend as a whole. Drawbacks:
* Its API includes both stuff that makes sense only at the block
backend level (root of the tree) and stuff that's only for use
within the block layer. This makes the API bigger and more complex
than necessary. Moreover, it's not obvious which interfaces are
meant for device models, and which really aren't.
* Since device models keep a reference to their backend, the backend
object can't just be destroyed. But for media change, we need to
replace the tree. Our solution is to make the BlockDriverState
generic, with actual driver state in a separate object, pointed to
by member opaque. That lets us replace the tree by deinitializing
and reinitializing its root. This special need of the root makes
the data structure awkward everywhere in the tree.
The general plan is to separate the APIs into "block backend", for use
by device models, monitor and whatever other code dealing with block
backends, and "block driver", for use by the block layer and whatever
other code (if any) dealing with trees and tree nodes.
Code dealing with block backends, device models in particular, should
become completely oblivious of BlockDriverState. This should let us
clean up both APIs, and the tree data structures.
This commit is a first step. It creates a minimal "block backend"
API: type BlockBackend and functions to create, destroy and find them.
BlockBackend objects are created and destroyed exactly when root
BlockDriverState objects are created and destroyed. "Root" in the
sense of "in bdrv_states". They're not yet used for anything; that'll
come shortly.
A root BlockDriverState is created with bdrv_new_root(), so where to
create a BlockBackend is obvious. Where these roots get destroyed
isn't always as obvious.
It is obvious in qemu-img.c, qemu-io.c and qemu-nbd.c, and in error
paths of blockdev_init(), blk_connect(). That leaves destruction of
objects successfully created by blockdev_init() and blk_connect().
blockdev_init() is used only by drive_new() and qmp_blockdev_add().
Objects created by the latter are currently indestructible (see commit
48f364d "blockdev: Refuse to drive_del something added with
blockdev-add" and commit 2d246f0 "blockdev: Introduce
DriveInfo.enable_auto_del"). Objects created by the former get
destroyed by drive_del().
Objects created by blk_connect() get destroyed by blk_disconnect().
BlockBackend is reference-counted. Its reference count never exceeds
one so far, but that's going to change.
In drive_del(), the BB's reference count is surely one now. The BDS's
reference count is greater than one when something else is holding a
reference, such as a block job. In this case, the BB is destroyed
right away, but the BDS lives on until all extra references get
dropped.

Today, all accelerator init functions affect some global state:
* tcg_init() calls tcg_exec_init() and affects globals such as tcg_tcx,
page size globals, and possibly others;
* kvm_init() changes the kvm_state global, cpu_interrupt_handler, and possibly
others;
* xen_init() changes the xen_xc global, and registers a change state handler.
With the new accelerator QOM classes, initialization may now be split in two
steps:
* instance_init() will do basic initialization that doesn't affect any global
state and don't need MachineState or MachineClass data. This will allow
probing code to safely create multiple accelerator objects on the fly just
for reporting host/accelerator capabilities, for example.
* accel_init_machine()/init_machine() will save the accelerator object in
MachineState, and do initialization steps which still affect global state,
machine state, or that need data from MachineClass or MachineState.
To clarify the difference between those two steps, rename init() to
init_machine().

for managing those mappings for us, and use the

This allows ide_drive_get to work for AHCI HBAs

Lastly, change the nature of the argument to

The if_max_devs table as in the past been an immutable
default that controls the mapping of index => (bus, unit)
for all boards and all HBAs for each interface type.
Since adding this mapping information to the HBA device
itself is currently unwieldly from the perspective of
retrieving this information at option parsing time
(e.g, within drive_new), we consider the alternative
of marking the if_max_devs table mutable so that
later configuration and initialization can adjust the

When users use command line options like -hda, -cdrom,
or even -drive if=ide, it is up to the board initialization
routines to pick up these drives and create backing
devices for them.
Some boards, like Q35, have not been doing this.
However, there is no warning explaining why certain
drive specifications are just silently ignored,
so this function adds a check to print some warnings
to assist users in debugging these sorts of issues
in the future.
This patch will not warn about drives added with if_none,
for which it is not possible to tell in advance if
the omission of a backing device is an issue.

If the BDS's refcnt > 0, drive_del() destroys the DriveInfo, but not
the BDS. This can happen in three places:
* Device model destruction during unplug: blockdev_auto_del()
* Xen IDE unplug: pci_piix3_xen_ide_unplug()
* drive_del command when no device model is attached: do_drive_del()
The other callers of drive_del are on error paths where refcnt == 1.
If the user somehow manages to plug in a device model using a BDS that
has gone through drive_del(), the legacy configuration passed in
DriveInfo doesn't reach the device model, and automatic deletion on
unplug doesn't work. Worse, some device models such as scsi-disk
crash when DriveInfo doesn't exist.
This is theoretical; I didn't research an actual reproducer. The problem
was introduced when we replaced DriveInfo reference counting by BDS
reference counting in commit a94a3fa..fa510eb.
Fix by keeping DriveInfo alive until its BDS dies.
This affects qemu_drive_opts: now you can't reuse the same ID for new
drive options until the BDS dies. Before, you could, but since the
code always attempts to create a BDS with the same ID next, the
enclosing operation "create a new drive" failed anyway. Different
error path, same result.
Unfortunately, the fix involves use of blockdev.c stuff from block.c,
which is a layering violation. Fortunately, my forthcoming
BlockBackend work will get rid of it again.

The plan is to add new accounting metrics (latency, invalid requests, failed
requests, queue depth) and block.c is overpopulated so it will be better to work
in a separate module.
Moreover the long term plan is to have statistics in each of the BDS of the graph
for metrology purpose; this means that the device model statistics must move from
the topmost BDS to the device model.
So we need to decouple the statistic code from BlockDriverState.
This is another argument for the extraction of the code in a separate module.

chr-testdev enables a virtio serial channel to be used for guest
initiated qemu exits. hw/misc/debugexit already enables guest
initiated qemu exits, but only for PC targets. chr-testdev supports
any virtio-capable target. kvm-unit-tests/arm is already making use
of this backend.
Currently there is a single command implemented, "q". It takes a
(prefix) argument for the exit code, thus an exit is implemented by
writing, e.g. "1q", to the virtio-serial port.
It can be used as:
$QEMU ... \
-device virtio-serial-device \
-device virtserialport,chardev=ctd -chardev testdev,id=ctd
or, use:
$QEMU ... \
-device virtio-serial-device \
-device virtconsole,chardev=ctd -chardev testdev,id=ctd
to bind it to virtio-serial port0.

Since commit cdaa86a54b
("Add G_IO_HUP handler for socket chardev")
GLib limitation results in a bug on Windows host. Steps to reproduce:
Start qemu: qemu-system-i386 -qmp tcp:127.0.0.1:4444:server:nowait
Connect with telnet: telnet 127.0.0.1 4444
Try sending some data from telnet.
Expected result: answers from QEMU.
Observed result: no answers (actually tcp_chr_read is not called at all).
Due to GLib limitations it is not possible to create several watches on one
channel on Windows hosts. See bug #338943 in GNOME bugzilla for details:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=338943
This reimplements commit cdaa86a54b
("Add G_IO_HUP handler for socket chardev") using a single watch:
Handle G_IO_HUP in tcp_chr_read instead. It is already watched by a
corresponding watch. Remove the second watch with its handler.

There patch protects vmstop_requested with a lock and introduces
qemu_system_vmstop_request_prepare.
Together with the new call to qemu_vmstop_requested in vm_start,
qemu_system_vmstop_request_prepare avoids a race where the VM could remain
stopped even though the iostatus of a block device has already been set
(for example).
qemu_system_vmstop_request_prepare however also lets the caller thread
delay observation of the state change until it has itself communicated
that change to the user. This delay avoids any possibility of a wrong
reordering of the BLOCK_IO_ERROR event and the subsequent STOP event.

Make DumpState and endian conversion routines available for arch-specific dump
code by moving into dump.h. DumpState will be needed by arch-specific dump
code to access target endian information from DumpState->ArchDumpInfo. Also
break the dependency of dump.h from stubs/dump.c by creating a separate
dump-arch.h.
This patch doesn't change any functionality.

Commit 40f1ee27aa introduced handy helpers for enable_cap calls on
vcpu and vm level. Unfortunately some older gcc versions (4.7.1, 4.6)
seem to choke on signedness detection in inline created variables:
target-ppc/kvm.c: In function 'kvmppc_booke_watchdog_enable':
target-ppc/kvm.c:1302:21: error: comparison of unsigned expression < 0 is always false [-Werror=type-limits]
target-ppc/kvm.c: In function 'kvmppc_set_papr':
target-ppc/kvm.c:1504:21: error: comparison of unsigned expression < 0 is always false [-Werror=type-limits]
However - thanks to Thomas Huth for the suggestion - we can just cast the
offending potentially 0 value to a signed type, making the comparison signed.

Now that we have a CPU object with a reset method, it is better to
keep the KVM reset close to the CPU reset. Using qemu_register_reset
as we do now keeps them far apart.
With this patch, PPC no longer calls the kvm_arch_ function, so
it can get removed there. Other arches call it from their CPU
reset handler, and the function gets an ARMCPU/X86CPU/S390CPU.
Note that ARM- and s390-specific functions are called kvm_arm_*
and kvm_s390_*, while x86-specific functions are called kvm_arch_*.
That follows the convention used by the different architectures.
Changing that is the topic of a separate patch.

As suffixes do not make sense for sPAPR's device tree and
there is no way to filter them out on the BusState::get_fw_dev_path()

We could handle suffixes in SLOF (ignored for now) but this would require
serious rework in the node opening code in SLOF, which has no obvious

replaced once QContext is completed.
The IOThread object is an AioContext event loop thread. This patch adds
the concept of multiple event loop threads, allowing users to define
them.
When SMP guests run on SMP hosts it makes sense to instantiate multiple
IOThreads. This spreads event loop processing across multiple cores.
Note that additional patches are required to actually bind a device to
an IOThread.

object instance should be called "parent_obj" and have a newline

qtest uses the icount infrastructure to implement a test-driven vm_clock. This
however is not necessary when using -qtest as a "probe" together with a normal
TCG-, KVM- or Xen-based virtual machine. Hence, split out the call to
configure_icount into a new function that is called only for "-machine
accel=qtest"; and disable those commands when running with an accelerator
other than qtest.
This also fixes an assertion failure with "qemu-system-x86_64 -machine
accel=qtest" but no -qtest option. This is a valid case, albeit somewhat
weird; nothing will happen in the VM but you'll still be able to
interact with the monitor or the GUI.
Now that qtest_init is not limited to an int(void) function, change
global variables that are not used outside qtest_init to arguments.
And finally, cleanup useless parts of include/sysemu/qtest.h. The file
is not used at all for user-only emulation, and qtest is not available
on Win32 due to its usage of sigwait.

Currently, -smbios type=T,NAME=VAL,... adds one field (T,NAME) with
value VAL to fw_cfg for each unique NAME. If NAME occurs multiple
times, the last one's VAL is used (before the QemuOpts conversion, the
first one was used).
Multiple -smbios can add multiple fields with the same (T, NAME).
SeaBIOS reads all of them from fw_cfg, but uses only the first field
(T, NAME). The others are ignored.
"First one wins, subsequent ones get ignored silently" isn't nice. We
commonly let the last option win. Useful, because it lets you
-readconfig first, then selectively override with command line
options.
Clean up -smbios to work the common way. Accumulate the settings,
with later ones overwriting earlier ones. Put the result into fw_cfg
(no more useless duplicates).
Bonus cleanup: qemu_uuid_parse() no longer sets SMBIOS system uuid by
side effect.

Currently Xen hvm s3 has a bug coming from the difference between
qemu-traditioanl and qemu-xen. For qemu-traditional, the way to
resume from hvm s3 is via 'xl trigger' command. However, for
qemu-xen, the way to resume from hvm s3 inherited from standard
qemu, i.e. via QMP, and it doesn't work under Xen.
The root cause is, for qemu-xen, 'xl trigger' command didn't reset
devices, while QMP didn't unpause hvm domain though they did qemu
system reset.
We have two qemu patches and one xl patch to fix Xen hvm s3 bug.
This patch is the qemu patch 1. It adjusts qemu wakeup so that
Xen s3 resume logic (which will be implemented at qemu patch 2)
will be notified after qemu system reset.

On PPC64 systems MSI Messages are translated to system IRQ in a PCI
host bridge. This is already supported for emulated MSI/MSIX but
not for irqfd where the current QEMU allocates IRQ numbers from
irqchip and maps MSIMessages to IRQ in the host kernel.
This adds a new direct mapping flag which tells
the kvm_irqchip_add_msi_route() function that a new VIRQ
should not be allocated, instead the value from MSIMessage::data
should be used. It is up to the platform code to make sure that
this contains a valid IRQ number as sPAPR does in spapr_pci.c.

The x86 and ppc targets call cpu_synchronize_state() from their
*_cpu_dump_state() callbacks to ensure that up to date state is dumped
when KVM is enabled (for example when a KVM internal error occurs).
Move this call up into the generic cpu_dump_state() function so that
other KVM targets (namely MIPS) can take advantage of it.
This requires kvm_cpu_synchronize_state() and cpu_synchronize_state() to
be moved out of the #ifdef NEED_CPU_H in <sysemu/kvm.h> so that they're
accessible to qom/cpu.c.

While the machine is paused, in guest_phys_blocks_append() we register a
one-shot MemoryListener, solely for the initial collection of the valid
guest-physical memory ranges that happens at listener registration time.
For each range that is reported to guest_phys_blocks_region_add(), we
attempt to merge the range with the preceding one.
Ranges can only be joined if they are contiguous in both guest-physical
address space, and contiguous in host virtual address space.
The "maximal" ranges that remain in the end constitute the guest-physical
memory map that the dump will be based on.

As of bd5c51ee6c, chardevs no longer use
bottom-halves to issue CHR_EVENT_OPENED events. To maintain past
semantics, we instead defer the CHR_EVENT_OPENED events toward the end
of chardev initialization.
For muxes, this isn't good enough, since a range of FEs must be able
to attach to the mux prior to any CHR_EVENT_OPENED being issued, else
each FE will immediately print it's initial output (prompts, banners,
etc.) just prior to us switching to the next FE as part of
initialization.
The is new and confusing behavior for users, as they'll see output for
things like the HMP monitor, even though their the current mux focus
may be a guest serial port with potentially no output.
We fix this by further deferring CHR_EVENT_OPENED events for FEs
associated with muxes until after machine init by flagging mux chardevs
with 'explicit_be_open', which suppresses emission of CHR_EVENT_OPENED
events until we explicitly set the mux as opened later.
Currently, we must defer till after machine init since we potentially
associate FEs with muxes as part of realize (for instance,
serial_isa_realizefn).

Spice has two display interface implementations: One integrated into
the qxl graphics card, and one generic which can operate with every
qemu-emulated graphics card.
The generic one is activated in case spice is used without qxl. The
logic for that only caught the "-vga qxl" case, "-device qxl-vga" goes
unnoticed. Fix that by adding a check in the spice interface
registration so we'll notice the qxl card no matter how it is created.

We already have a qemu_devtree_setprop_cells() which sets a dtb
property to an array of cells whose values are specified by varargs.
However for the fairly common case of setting a property to a list
of addresses or of address, size pairs the number of cells used by
each element in the list depends on the parent's #address-cells
and #size-cells properties. To make this easier we provide an analogous
qemu_devtree_setprop_sized_cells() macro which allows the number
of cells used by each element to be specified. This is implemented
using an underlying qemu_devtree_setprop_sized_cells_from_array()
function which takes the values and sizes as an array; this may
also be directly useful for cases where the cell contents are
constructed programmatically.

The current logic updates KVM's view of our interrupt map every time we
change it. While this is nice and bullet proof, it slows things down
badly for me. QEMU spends about 3 seconds on every start telling KVM what
news it has on its routing maps.
Instead, let's just synchronize the whole irq routing map as a whole when
we're done constructing it. For things that change during runtime, we can
still update the routing table on demand.

On PPC, we can have different types of interrupt controllers, so we really
only know that we are going to use one when we created it.
Export kvm_init_irq_routing() to common code, so that we don't have to call

On PPC, we don't support MP state. So far it's not necessary and I'm
not convinced yet that we really need to support it ever.
However, the current idle logic in QEMU assumes that an in-kernel PIC
also means we support MP state. This assumption is not true anymore.
Let's split up the two cases into two different variables. That way
PPC can expose an in-kernel PIC, while not implementing MP state.
