qemu-common.h includes qemu/option.h, but most places that include the
former don't actually need the latter. Drop the include, and add it
to the places that actually need it.
While there, drop superfluous includes of both headers, and

The macro expansions of qdict_put_TYPE() and qlist_append_TYPE() need
qbool.h, qnull.h, qnum.h and qstring.h to compile. We include qnull.h
and qnum.h in the headers, but not qbool.h and qstring.h. Works,
because we include those wherever the macros get used.
Open-coding these helpers is of dubious value. Turn them into
functions and drop the includes from the headers.

qapi/qmp/types.h is a convenience header to include a number of
qapi/qmp/ headers. Since we rarely need all of the headers
qapi/qmp/types.h includes, we bypass it most of the time. Most of the

If a CPU selected with the "cpu" command is hot-unplugged then "info cpus"
causes QEMU to exit:
(qemu) device_del cpu1
(qemu) info cpus
qemu:qemu_cpu_kick_thread: No such process
This happens because "cpu" stores the pointer to the selected CPU into
the monitor structure. When the CPU is hot-unplugged, we end up with a
dangling pointer. The "info cpus" command then does:
hmp_info_cpus()
monitor_get_cpu_index()
mon_get_cpu()
cpu_synchronize_state() <--- called with dangling pointer
This could cause a QEMU crash as well.
This patch switches the monitor to store the QOM path instead of a
pointer to the current CPU. The path is then resolved when needed.
If the resolution fails, we assume that the CPU was removed and the
path is resetted to the default (ie, path of first_cpu).

The info registers command in the qemu monitor is used to dump register
values.
Currently this command uses the monitor cpu (which can be set by the
user) as the cpu for whose registers will be dumped. Sometimes it is
useful to see the registers for all cpus and currently this requires
setting the monitor cpu and the re-running the command for each cpu
in the system. I would be nice if there was an easier way to do this.
Add the "-a" option to the info registers command to dump the register
values for all cpus.

cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet was introduced by commit
efec3dd631 to replace no_user. It was
supposed to be a temporary measure.
When it was introduced, we had 54
cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines in the code.
Today (3 years later) this number has not shrunk: we now have
57 cannot_instantiate_with_device_add_yet=true lines. I think it
is safe to say it is not a temporary measure, and we won't see
the flag go away soon.
Instead of a long field name that misleads people to believe it
is temporary, replace it a shorter and less misleading field:
user_creatable.

We now have macros in place to make it less verbose to add a scalar
to QDict and QList, so use them.
Patch created mechanically via:
spatch --sp-file scripts/coccinelle/qobject.cocci \
--macro-file scripts/cocci-macro-file.h --dir . --in-place
then touched up manually to fix a couple of '?:' back to original
spacing, as well as avoiding a long line in monitor.c.

qmp_check_input_obj() duplicates qmp_dispatch_check_obj(), except the
latter screws up an error message. handle_qmp_command() runs first
the former, then the latter via qmp_dispatch(), masking the screwup.
qemu-ga also masks the screwup, because it also duplicates checks,
just differently.
qmp_check_input_obj() exists because handle_qmp_command() needs to
examine the command before dispatching it. The previous commit got
rid of this need, except for a tracepoint, and a bit of "id" code that
relies on qdict not being null.
Fix up the error message in qmp_dispatch_check_obj(), drop
qmp_check_input_obj() and the tracepoint. Protect the "id" code with
a conditional.

To enforce capability negotiation before normal operation,
handle_qmp_command() inspects every command before it's handed off to
qmp_dispatch(). This is a bit of a layering violation, and results in
duplicated code.
Before capability negotiation (!cur_mon->in_command_mode), we fail
commands other than "qmp_capabilities". This is what enforces
capability negotiation.
Afterwards, we fail command "qmp_capabilities".
Clean this up as follows.
The obvious place to fail a command is the command itself, so move the
"afterwards" check to qmp_qmp_capabilities().
We do the "before" check in every other command, but that would be
bothersome. Instead, start with an alternate list of commands that
contains only "qmp_capabilities". Switch to the full list in
qmp_qmp_capabilities().
Additionally, replace the generic human-readable error message for
CommandNotFound by one that reminds the user to run qmp_capabilities.
Without that, we'd regress commit 2d5a834.

The way we get QMP commands registered is high tech:
* qapi-commands.py generates qmp_init_marshal() that does the actual work
* it also generates the magic to register it as a MODULE_INIT_QAPI
function, so it runs when someone calls
module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI)
* main() calls module_call_init()
QEMU needs to register a few non-qapified commands. Same high tech
works: monitor.c has its own qmp_init_marshal() along with the magic
to make it run in module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI).
QEMU also needs to unregister commands that are not wanted in this
build's configuration (commit 5032a16). Simple enough:
qmp_unregister_commands_hack(). The difficulty is to make it run
after the generated qmp_init_marshal(). We can't simply run it in
monitor.c's qmp_init_marshal(), because the order in which the
registered functions run is indeterminate. So qmp_init_marshal()
registers qmp_unregister_commands_hack() separately. Since
registering *appends* to the list of registered functions, this will
make it run after all the functions that have been registered already.
I suspect it takes a long and expensive computer science education to
not find this silly.
Dumb it down as follows:
* Drop MODULE_INIT_QAPI entirely
* Give the generated qmp_init_marshal() external linkage.
* Call it instead of module_call_init(MODULE_INIT_QAPI)
* Except in QEMU proper, call new monitor_init_qmp_commands() that in
turn calls the generated qmp_init_marshal(), registers the
additional commands and unregisters the unwanted ones.

A future follow-up should improve the implementation of

The CharDriver::create() callback is turned into a ChardevClass::open()

"chardev-gdb" and "chardev-hci" are internal chardev and aren't

perhaps allow -chardev usage.
Although in general we keep typename and macros private, unless the type
is being used by some other file, in this patch, all types and common
helper macros for qemu-char.c are in char.h. This is to help transition
now (some types must be declared early, while some aren't shared) and
when splitting in several units. This is to be improved later.

This is the first of three parts: rename the files. The next two

claiming in init(), and add a function deinit() to release the chardev
and cleanup handlers.
The qemu_chr_fe_claim_no_fail() for property are gone, since the

This is implemented by extending the existing hack at

Now that we allow CPU hot unplug on a few platforms, we can end up in a
situation where we don't have a CPU with index 0. Or at least we could,
if we didn't have code to explicitly prohibit unplug of CPU 0.
Longer term we want to allow CPU 0 unplug, this patch is an early step in
allowing this, by removing an assumption in the monitor code that CPU 0
always exists.

We currently define QMP commands in two places: the QAPI schema and
qmp-commands.hx. The latter is preprocessed, the former is not. We
use the preprocessor to suppress configuration-specific commands. For
instance, query-spice is only available #ifdef CONFIG_SPICE.
QMP command dispatch and query-commands use the qmp-commands.hx
definition, and thus obey the #ifdeffery there. Good, because it lets
QMP clients probe for available features more easily.
query-qmp-schema uses the QAPI schema, and thus lists the
configuration-specific commands even when they're unavailable. Not so
good.
We're about to flip command dispatch and query-commands to the
non-middle-mode command registry, which uses the QAPI schema, so we
can ditch qmp-commands.hx. To avoid regressing query-commands,
arrange for commands that are suppressed with the preprocessor now to
be unregistered with that registry. This will keep them unavailable
and out of query-commands when we flip command dispatch and
query-commands to that registry, exactly as before.
This is a hack. The proper solution is to support
configuration-specific commands in the QAPI schema. Mark it FIXME.

This is a mostly-mechanical conversion that creates a new flat
union 'Netdev' QAPI type that covers all the branches of the
former 'NetClientOptions' simple union, where the branches are
now listed in a new 'NetClientDriver' enum rather than generated
from the simple union. The existence of a flat union has no
change to the command line syntax accepted for new code, and
will make it possible for a future patch to switch the QMP
command to parse a boxed union for no change to valid QMP; but
it does have some ripple effect on the C code when dealing with
the new types.
While making the conversion, note that the 'NetLegacy' type
remains unchanged: it applies only to legacy command line options,
and will not be ported to QMP, so it should remain a wrapper
around a simple union; to avoid confusion, the type named
'NetClientOptions' is now gone, and we introduce 'NetLegacyOptions'
in its place. Then, in the C code, we convert from NetLegacy to
Netdev as soon as possible, so that the bulk of the net stack
only has to deal with one QAPI type, not two. Note that since
the old legacy code always rejected 'hubport', we can just omit
that branch from the new 'NetLegacyOptions' simple union.
