55d492d760 qemu-img: Report error even with --oformat=json
img_check() should report that the format of the given image does not
support checks even if JSON output is desired. JSON data is output to
stdout, as opposed to error messages, which are (in the case of
qemu-img) printed to stderr. Therefore, it is easy to distinguish
between the two.

Also, img_info() does already use error_report() for human-readable
messages even though JSON output is desired (through
collect_image_info_list()).

395071a763 Remove g_sequence_lookup from qemu-img help function
g_sequence_lookup is not supported by glib < 2.28. The usage
of g_sequence_lookup is not essential in this context (it's a
safeguard against duplicate values in the help message).

1a443c1b8b qemu-img: sort block formats in help message
The help message for qemu-img lists the supported block formats, of
which there are 27 as of version 2.0.50. The formats are printed in
the order of their driver's position in a linked list, which appears
random. This patch prints the formats in sorted order, making it
easier to read and to find a specific format in the list.

at the top of the scope in help() and to omit explicit cast for void*

ac1307abfe qemu-img: Improve error messages
Previously, when there is a user error in argv parsing, qemu-img prints
help text and exits.

Add an error_exit function to print a helpful error message and a hint
to run 'qemu-img --help' for more information.

As a bonus, "qemu-img <cmd> --help" now has a more reasonable exit code
0.

9ffe333276 qemu-img: Avoid duplicate block device IDs
qemu-img used to use "image" as ID for all block devices. This means
that e.g. img_convert() ended up with potentially multiple source images
and one target image, all with the same ID. The next patch will catch
this and fail to open the block device.

This patch makes sure that qemu-img uses meaningful unique IDs for the
block devices it uses.

98522f63f4 block: Add errp to bdrv_new()
This patch adds an errp parameter to bdrv_new() and updates all its
callers. The next patches will make use of this in order to check for
duplicate IDs. Most of the callers know that their ID is fine, so they
can simply assert that there is no error.

Behaviour doesn't change with this patch yet as bdrv_new() doesn't
actually assign errors to errp.

13c28af87a qemu-img: add support for skipping zeroes in input during convert
we currently do not check if a sector is allocated during convert.
This means if a sector is unallocated that we allocate a bounce
buffer of zeroes, find out its zero later and do not write it
in the best case. In the worst case this can lead to reading
blocks from a raw device (like iSCSI) altough we could easily
know via get_block_status that they are zero and simply skip them.

This patch moves ret assignment after reporting original error.

We were lucky to pass qemu-iotests 048 (qemu-img compare case) but when
I tried to run with TEST_DIR=/tmp (tmpfs), it fails with a "wrong"
mismatch offset. This fixes two bugs.

In the first if branch, setting ret to 1 before using it makes dead code
in the next line: pnum is never added to mismatch offset even if ret was

In the other if branch, currently the output error is always -4:

a89d89d3e6 snapshot: distinguish id and name in snapshot delete
Snapshot creation actually already distinguish id and name since it take
a structured parameter *sn, but delete can't. Later an accurate delete
is needed in qmp_transaction abort and blockdev-snapshot-delete-sync,
so change its prototype. Also *errp is added to tip error, but return
value is kepted to let caller check what kind of error happens. Existing
caller for it are savevm, delvm and qemu-img, they are not impacted by
introducing a new function bdrv_snapshot_delete_by_id_or_name(), which
check the return value and do the operation again.

Before this patch:
For qcow2, it search id first then name to find the one to delete.
  For rbd, it search name.
  For sheepdog, it does nothing.

After this patch:
For qcow2, logic is the same by call it twice in caller.
For rbd, it always fails in delete with id, but still search for name
in second try, no change to user.

Some code for *errp is based on Pavel's patch.

e4a86f88cc qemu-img: always probe the input image for allocated sectors
qemu-img convert can assume "that sectors which are unallocated in the
input image are present in both the output's and input's base images".

However it is only doing this if the output image returns true for
bdrv_has_zero_init(). Testing bdrv_has_zero_init() does not make much
sense if the output image is copy-on-write, because a copy-on-write
image is never initialized to zero (it is initialized to the content
of the backing file).

There is nothing here that makes has_zero_init images special. The

9699bf0d06 qemu-img: Add --backing-chain option to info command
The qemu-img info --backing-chain option enumerates the backing file
chain. For example, for base.qcow2 <- snap1.qcow2 <- snap2.qcow2 the
output becomes:

  $ qemu-img info --backing-chain snap2.qcow2
  image: snap2.qcow2
  file format: qcow2
  virtual size: 100M (104857600 bytes)
  disk size: 196K
  cluster_size: 65536
  backing file: snap1.qcow2
  backing file format: qcow2

  virtual size: 100M (104857600 bytes)
  disk size: 196K
  cluster_size: 65536
  backing file: base.qcow2
  backing file format: qcow2

a616673dd1 qemu-img rebase: use empty string to rebase without backing file
This patch allows an empty filename to be passed as the new base image name
for qemu-img rebase to mean base the image on no backing file (i.e.
independent of any backing file). According to Eric Blake, qemu-img rebase
already supports this when '-u' is used; this adds support when -u is not
used.

058f8f16db block: add BLOCK_O_CHECK for qemu-img check
Image formats with a dirty bit, like qed and qcow2, repair dirty image
files upon open with BDRV_O_RDWR. Performing automatic repair when
qemu-img check runs is not ideal because the bdrv_open() call repairs
the image before the actual bdrv_check() call from qemu-img.c.

Fix this "double repair" since it leads to confusing output from
qemu-img check. Tell the block driver that this image is being opened
just for bdrv_check(). This skips automatic repair and qemu-img.c can
invoke it manually with bdrv_check().

Update the golden output for qemu-iotests 039 to reflect the new
qemu-img check output.

c8057f951d Support 'help' as a synonym for '?' in command line options
For command line options which permit '?' meaning 'please list the
permitted values', add support for 'help' as a synonym, by abstracting
the check out into a helper function.

This change means that in some cases where we were being lazy in
our string parsing, "?junk" will now be rejected as an invalid option
rather than being (undocumentedly) treated the same way as "?".

Update the documentation to use 'help' rather than '?', since '?'
is a shell metacharacter and thus prone to fail confusingly if there
is a single character filename in the current working directory and
the '?' has not been escaped. It's therefore better to steer users
towards 'help', though '?' is retained for backwards compatibility.

We do not, however, update the output of the system emulator's -help
(or any documentation autogenerated from the qemu-options.hx which
is the source of the -help text) because libvirt parses our -help
output and will break. At a later date when QEMU provides a better
interface so libvirt can avoid having to do this, we can update the
-help text too.

f8d6bba1c1 block: Replace bdrv_get_format() by bdrv_get_format_name()
So callers don't need to know anything about maximum name length.
Returning a pointer is safe, because the name string lives as long as
the block driver it names, and block drivers don't die.

4534ff5426 qemu-img check -r for repairing images
The QED block driver already provides the functionality to not only
detect inconsistencies in images, but also fix them. However, this
functionality cannot be manually invoked with qemu-img, but the
check happens only automatically during bdrv_open().

This adds a -r switch to qemu-img check that allows manual invocation
of an image repair.
