e999fa47b2 tests/migration: fix parameter of auto-converge migration
when execute the following test command:
$ ./guestperf-batch.py --auto-converge \
    --auto-converge-step {percent} ...
test aborts and error message be throwed as the following:
"Parameter 'x-cpu-throttle-increment' is unexpected"

The reason is that 'x-cpu-throttle-increment' has been
deprecated and 'cpu-throttle-increment' was introduced
Since v2.7. Use the new parameter instead.

1cb8d12f79 tests/tcg: relax the next step precision of the gdb sha1 test
Depending on the version of gdb we may not execute the first line of
SHA1Init when executing the first "next" command - instead just
stepping over the preamble. As we don't actually care about the
position of the PC after the steps and want to be sure the
context->state[] has been loaded before we inspect it do a double next
at the start.

de6d7e6b02 tests/tcg: add concept of container_hosts
While docker is nominally multiarch these days it doesn't mean our

The upcoming Debian bullseye release will improve things further. At
least for now we can get things like the 32 bit ARM compiler on it's

You don't usually notice this is broken on developer system on x86 as

After introducing non-scalar machine properties, it would be preferrable

2ec7e8a946 iotests/244: Test preallocation for data-file-raw
Three test cases:
(1) Adding a qcow2 (metadata) file to an existing data file, see whether
we can read the existing data through the qcow2 image.
(2) Append data to the data file, grow the qcow2 image accordingly, see
whether we can read the new data through the qcow2 image.
(3) At runtime, add a backing image to a freshly created qcow2 image
with an external data file (with data-file-raw). Reading data from
the qcow2 image must return the same result as reading data from the
data file, so everything in the backing image must be ignored.
(This did not use to be the case, because without the L2 tables
preallocated, all clusters would appear as unallocated, and so the
qcow2 driver would fall through to the backing file.)

484108293d qcow2: Force preallocation with data-file-raw
Setting the qcow2 data-file-raw bit means that you can ignore the
qcow2 metadata when reading from the external data file. It does not
mean that you have to ignore it, though. Therefore, the data read must
be the same regardless of whether you interpret the metadata or whether
you ignore it, and thus the L1/L2 tables must all be present and give a
1:1 mapping.

This patch changes 244's output: First, the qcow2 file is larger right
after creation, because of metadata preallocation. Second, the qemu-img
map output changes: Everything that was not explicitly discarded or
zeroed is now a data area.

For its concurrent requests, 046 has always filtered the offset,

22329f0d29 iotests: Revert "iotests: use -ccw on s390x for 040, 139, and 182"
Commit f1d5516ab5 introduces a test in some iotests to check if
the machine is a s390-ccw-virtio and to select virtio-*-ccw rather
than virtio-*-pci.

We don't need that because QEMU already provides aliases to use the correct
virtio interface according to the machine type.

This patch removes all virtio-*-pci and virtio-*-ccw to use virtio-*
instead and remove get_virtio_scsi_device().
This also enables virtio-mmio devices (virtio-*-device)

6162f7dafe utils: Work around mingw strto*l bug with 0x
Mingw recognizes that "0x" has value 0 without setting errno, but
fails to advance endptr to the trailing garbage 'x'. This in turn
showed up in our recent testsuite additions for qemu_strtosz (commit
1657ba44b4 utils: Enhance testsuite for do_strtosz()); adjust our
remaining tests to show that we now work around this windows bug.

This patch intentionally fails check-syntax for use of strtol.

061d79097c utils: Tighter tests for qemu_strtosz
Our tests were not validating the return value in all cases, nor was
it guaranteeing our documented claim that 'res' is unchanged on error.
For that matter, it wasn't as thorough as the existing tests for
qemu_strtoi() and friends for proving that endptr and res are sanely
set. Enhancing the test found one case where we violated our
documentation: namely, when failing with EINVAL when endptr is NULL,
we shouldn't modify res.

Commit 967c885108 "qapi: add 'if' to top-level expressions" added

qmp_TestIfCmd() to go with it, guarded by the corresponding #if.

the command, but not the function. Compiles only because we don't
satisfy the #if. Instead of fixing the function, simply drop it.

73c40b07c6 tests/qapi-schema: Tweak to demonstrate buggy member name check
Member name 'u' and names starting with 'has-' or 'has_' are reserved
for the generator. check_type() enforces this, covered by tests
reserved-member-u and reserved-member-has.

These tests neglect to cover optional members, where the name starts
with '*'. Tweak reserved-member-u to fix that. Test
reserved-member-has still covers non-optional members.

This demonstrates the reserved member name check is broken for
optional members. The next commit will fix it.

A few old comments talk about "desired future use of defaults" and
"anonymous inline branch types". Kind of misleading since commit
87adbbffd4 "qapi: add a dictionary form for TYPE" added longhand
member definitions. Talk about that instead.

flat-union-inline.json covers longhand branch definition with an
invalid type value. It's redundant: longhand branch definition is
covered by flat-union-inline-invalid-dict.json, and invalid type value
is covered by nested-struct-data.json. Drop the test.

b3566001d4 memory: Add offset_in_region to flatview_cb arguments
The function flatview_for_each_range() calls a callback for each
range in a FlatView. Currently the callback gets the start and
length of the range and the MemoryRegion involved, but not the offset
within the MemoryRegion. Add this to the callback's arguments; we're
going to want it for a new use in the next commit.

d1e8cf77f1 memory: Make flatview_cb return bool, not int
The return value of the flatview_cb callback passed to the
flatview_for_each_range() function is zero if the iteration through
the ranges should continue, or non-zero to break out of it. Use a
bool for this rather than int.

7d6a4f123e net/eth: Read ip6_ext_hdr_routing buffer before accessing it
We can't know the caller read enough data in the memory pointed
by ext_hdr to cast it as a ip6_ext_hdr_routing.
Declare rt_hdr on the stack and fill it again from the iovec.

Since we already checked there is enough data in the iovec buffer,
simply add an assert() call to consume the bytes_read variable.

This fix a 2 bytes buffer overrun in eth_parse_ipv6_hdr() reported
by QEMU fuzzer:

d8b2e5639a tests/unit/test-block-iothread: fix maybe-uninitialized error on GCC 11
When building qemu with GCC 11, test-block-iothread produces the following
warning:

../tests/unit/test-block-iothread.c:148:11: error: ‘buf’ may be used
uninitialized [-Werror=maybe-uninitialized]

This is caused by buf[512] left uninitialized and passed to
bdrv_save_vmstate() that expects a const uint8_t *, so the compiler
assumes it will be read and expects the parameter to be initialized.

    xlnx,zynq-xadc

These are all device types. They can't be plugged with -device /
device_add, except for xlnx,zynqmp-pmu-soc, and I doubt that one
actually works.

They *can* be used with -device / device_add to request help.
Usability is poor, though: you have to double the comma, like this:

    $ qemu-system-x86_64 -device SUNW,,fdtwo,help

Trap for the unwary. The fact that this was broken in
device-introspect-test for more than six years until commit e27bd49876
fixed it demonstrates that "the unwary" includes seasoned developers.

One QOM type name contains ' ': "ICH9 SMB". Because having to
remember just one way to quote would be too easy.

Rename the "SUNW,FOO types to "sun-FOO". Summarily replace ',' and '
' by '-' in the other type names.

1bf26076d6 stream: Don't crash when node permission is denied
The image streaming block job restricts shared permissions of the nodes
it accesses. This can obviously fail when other users already got these
permissions. &error_abort is therefore wrong and can crash. Handle these
errors gracefully and just fail starting the block job.

279d0a5b1e plugins: new syscalls plugin
This commit adds a new syscalls plugin that displays the syscalls
as they are executed and returned. This plugin outputs the number
of the syscall as well as the syscall return value.

Works in *-user only.

Essentially, this commit restores:

by using the new QEMU plugin API.

cd093d5a2c avocado_qemu: add exec_command function
Sometimes a test needs to send a command to a console without waiting
for a pattern as a result, or the command issued do not produce any kind
of output, like, for example, a `mount` command.

This introduces the `exec_command` function to the avocado_qemu,
allowing the test to send a command to the console without the need to
match a pattern produced as a result.

migration test will launch vm use the same socket file as
the first, so we get the error message. To fix it, just remove
the socket file each time we have done the migration test.

1cf54443d9 tests/acceptance: Print expected message on wait_for_console_pattern
For the sake of improve debuggability of tests which use the
wait_for_console_pattern(), this changed the _console_interaction() so that
the expected message is printed if the test fail.

25d309fb0d fuzz: configure a sparse-mem device, by default
The generic-fuzzer often provides randomized DMA addresses to
virtual-devices. For a 64-bit address-space, the chance of these
randomized addresses coinciding with RAM regions, is fairly small. Even
though the fuzzer's instrumentation eventually finds valid addresses,
this can take some-time, and slows-down fuzzing progress (especially,
when multiple DMA buffers are involved). To work around this, create
"fake" sparse-memory that spans all of the 64-bit address-space. Adjust
the DMA call-back to populate this sparse memory, correspondingly
