Emulated devices and other BlockBackend users wishing to take advantage
of blk_register_buf() all have the same repetitive job: register
RAMBlocks with the BlockBackend using RAMBlockNotifier.
Add a BlockRAMRegistrar API to do this. A later commit will use this
from hw/block/virtio-blk.c.

libblkio (https://gitlab.com/libblkio/libblkio/) is a library for
high-performance disk I/O. It currently supports io_uring,
virtio-blk-vhost-user, and virtio-blk-vhost-vdpa with additional drivers
under development.
One of the reasons for developing libblkio is that other applications
besides QEMU can use it. This will be particularly useful for
virtio-blk-vhost-user which applications may wish to use for connecting
to qemu-storage-daemon.
libblkio also gives us an opportunity to develop in Rust behind a C API
that is easy to consume from QEMU.
This commit adds io_uring, nvme-io_uring, virtio-blk-vhost-user, and
virtio-blk-vhost-vdpa BlockDrivers to QEMU using libblkio. It will be
easy to add other libblkio drivers since they will share the majority of
code.
For now I/O buffers are copied through bounce buffers if the libblkio
driver requires it. Later commits add an optimization for
pre-registering guest RAM to avoid bounce buffers.
The syntax is:
--blockdev io_uring,node-name=drive0,filename=test.img,readonly=on|off,cache.direct=on|off
--blockdev nvme-io_uring,node-name=drive0,filename=/dev/ng0n1,readonly=on|off,cache.direct=on
--blockdev virtio-blk-vhost-vdpa,node-name=drive0,path=/dev/vdpa...,readonly=on|off,cache.direct=on
--blockdev virtio-blk-vhost-user,node-name=drive0,path=vhost-user-blk.sock,readonly=on|off,cache.direct=on

JEDEC STANDARD JESD216 for Serial Flash Discovery Parameters (SFDP)
provides a mean to describe the features of a serial flash device
using a set of internal parameter tables.
This is the initial framework for the RDSFDP command giving access to
a private SFDP area under the flash. This area now needs to be
populated with the flash device characteristics, using a new
'sfdp_read' handler under FlashPartInfo.

Make vhost-user-blk backwards compatible when migrating from older VMs
running with modern features turned off, the same way it was done for
virtio-blk in 20764be042 ("virtio-blk: set config size depending on the features enabled")
It's currently impossible to migrate from an older VM with
vhost-user-blk (with disable-legacy=off) because of errors like this:
qemu-system-x86_64: get_pci_config_device: Bad config data: i=0x10 read: 41 device: 1 cmask: ff wmask: 80 w1cmask:0
qemu-system-x86_64: Failed to load PCIDevice:config
qemu-system-x86_64: Failed to load virtio-blk:virtio
qemu-system-x86_64: error while loading state for instance 0x0 of device '0000:00:05.0:00.0:02.0/virtio-blk'
qemu-system-x86_64: load of migration failed: Invalid argument
This is caused by the newer (destination) VM requiring a bigger BAR0
alignment because it has to cover a bigger configuration space, which
isn't actually needed since those additional config fields are not
active (write-zeroes/discard).

We don't have a virtio-gpio implementation in QEMU and only
support a vhost-user backend. The QEMU side of the code is minimal so
it should be enough to instantiate the device and pass some vhost-user
messages over the control socket. To do this we hook into the existing
vhost-user-test code and just add the bits required for gpio.

Since QEMU 7.1 we don't support Ubuntu 18.04 anymore, so the last big
important Linux distro that did not have a pre-packaged libslirp has
been dismissed. All other major distros seem to have a libslirp package
in their distribution already - according to repology.org:
Fedora 35: 4.6.1
CentOS 8 (RHEL-8): 4.4.0
Debian 11: 4.4.0
OpenSUSE Leap 15.3: 4.3.1
Ubuntu LTS 20.04: 4.1.0
FreeBSD Ports: 4.7.0
NetBSD pkgsrc: 4.7.0
Homebrew: 4.7.0
MSYS2 mingw: 4.7.0
The only one that was still missing a libslirp package is OpenBSD - but
the next version (OpenBSD 7.2 which will be shipped in October) is going
to include a libslirp package. Since QEMU 7.2 will be published after
OpenBSD 7.2, we should be fine there, too.
So there is no real urgent need for keeping the slirp submodule in
the QEMU tree anymore. Thus let's drop the slirp submodule now and
rely on the libslirp packages from the distributions instead.

This implements a VDUSE block backends based on
the libvduse library. We can use it to export the BDSs
for both VM and container (host) usage.
The new command-line syntax is:
$ qemu-storage-daemon \
--blockdev file,node-name=drive0,filename=test.img \
--export vduse-blk,node-name=drive0,id=vduse-export0,writable=on
After the qemu-storage-daemon started, we need to use
the "vdpa" command to attach the device to vDPA bus:
$ vdpa dev add name vduse-export0 mgmtdev vduse
Also the device must be removed via the "vdpa" command
before we stop the qemu-storage-daemon.

[Changed submodule URL to QEMU's libvfio-user mirror on GitLab. The QEMU

even in the event that its dependencies become unavailable. Note that
the mirror repo is manually updated, so please contact me to make newer

Updated scripts/meson-buildoptions.sh to match the meson_options.txt

Commit 7a523d96a0 ("virtio-ccw: move vhost_ccw_scsi to a separate file")
introduced a new file hw/s390x/vhost-scsi-ccw.c, which received a
couple comments [1][2] to update MAINTAINERS that were missed.
Fix that by making the vhost CCW entries a wildcard.

According to the NBD spec, a server that advertises
NBD_FLAG_CAN_MULTI_CONN promises that multiple client connections will
not see any cache inconsistencies: when properly separated by a single
flush, actions performed by one client will be visible to another
client, regardless of which client did the flush.
We always satisfy these conditions in qemu - even when we support
multiple clients, ALL clients go through a single point of reference
into the block layer, with no local caching. The effect of one client
is instantly visible to the next client. Even if our backend were a
network device, we argue that any multi-path caching effects that
would cause inconsistencies in back-to-back actions not seeing the
effect of previous actions would be a bug in that backend, and not the
fault of caching in qemu. As such, it is safe to unconditionally
advertise CAN_MULTI_CONN for any qemu NBD server situation that
supports parallel clients.
Note, however, that we don't want to advertise CAN_MULTI_CONN when we
know that a second client cannot connect (for historical reasons,
qemu-nbd defaults to a single connection while nbd-server-add and QMP
commands default to unlimited connections; but we already have
existing means to let either style of NBD server creation alter those
defaults). This is visible by no longer advertising MULTI_CONN for
'qemu-nbd -r' without -e, as in the iotest nbd-qemu-allocation.
The harder part of this patch is setting up an iotest to demonstrate
behavior of multiple NBD clients to a single server. It might be
possible with parallel qemu-io processes, but I found it easier to do
in python with the help of libnbd, and help from Nir and Vladimir in
writing the test.

The Fedora 29 kernel is quite old and importantly fails when running
in LPA2 scenarios. As it's not really exercising much of the CPU space
replace it with a custom 5.16.12 kernel with all the architecture
options turned on. There is a minimal buildroot initramfs included in
the kernel which has a few tools for stress testing the memory
subsystem. The userspace also targets the Neoverse N1 processor so
would fail with a v8.0 cpu like cortex-a53.
While we are at it move the test into its own file so it can have an
assigned maintainer.

The new block driver simply utilizes snapshot-access API of underlying
block node.
In further patches we want to use it like this:
[guest] [NBD export]
| |
| root | root
v file v
[copy-before-write]<------[snapshot-access]
| |
| file | target
v v
[active-disk] [temp.img]
This way, NBD client will be able to read snapshotted state of active
disk, when active disk is continued to be written by guest. This is
known as "fleecing", and currently uses another scheme based on qcow2
temporary image which backing file is active-disk. New scheme comes
with benefits - see next commit.
The other possible application is exporting internal snapshots of
qcow2, like this:
[guest] [NBD export]
| |
| root | root
v file v
[qcow2]<---------[snapshot-access]
For this, we'll need to implement snapshot-access API handlers in
qcow2 driver, and improve snapshot-access block driver (and API) to
make it possible to select snapshot by name. Another thing to improve
is size of snapshot. Now for simplicity we just use size of bs->file,
which is OK for backup, but for qcow2 snapshots export we'll need to
imporve snapshot-access API to get size of snapshot.

The handling of some syscalls / libc function is quite subtle. For
example, 'fork' at a libc level doesn't always correspond to 'fork'
at a syscall level, since the 'clone' syscall is preferred usually.
The unit test will help to detect these kind of problems. A point of
difficulty in writing a test though is that the QEMU build process may
already be confined by seccomp. For example, if running inside a
container. Since we can't predict what filtering might have been applied
already, we are quite conservative and skip all tests if we see any kind
of seccomp filter active.

Upstream the bsd-user fork signal implementation, for the most part. This
series of commits represents nearly all of the infrastructure that surround
signals, except the actual system call glue (that was also reworked in the
fork and needs its own series). In addition, this adds the sigsegv and sigbus
code to arm. Even in the fork, we don't have good x86 signal implementation,
so there's little to upstream for that at the moment.
bsd-user's signal implementation is similar to linux-user's. The full context
can be found in the bsd-user's fork's 'blitz branch' at
https://github.com/qemu-bsd-user/qemu-bsd-user/tree/blitz which shows how these
are used to implement various system calls. Since this was built from
linux-user's stack stuff, evolved for BSD with the passage of a few years, it
no-doubt missed some bug fixes from linux-user (though nothing obvious stood out
in the quick comparison I made). After the first round of reviews, many of these
improvements have been incorporated.

As our day jobs and interests have moved onto other things, Greg and I have
been struggling to keep on top of maintainership of target/ppc and
associated pieces like the pseries and powernv machine types, with their
platform specific devices.
We've therefore discussed and plan to transfer maintainership to Cédric Le

have been actively contributing to the area for some time, and they're
supported in this by their current employer, IBM, who has an obvious

Greg and I do plan to stay around in some capacity for at least the next

qemu/KVM on Power is no longer my primary job responsibility, nor Greg
Kurz'. I still have some time for upstream maintenance, but it's no longer
accurate to say that I'm paid to do so. Therefore, reduce sPAPR (the
"pseries" machine type) from Supported to Maintained.

The OpenPIC interrupt controller was once the de facto standard on ppc
machines. In qemu it's now only used on some Macintosh and the
Freescale e500 machine. It has no listed maintainer, and as far as I
know, no-one who's really familiar with it any more.
Since I'm moving away from the area, I no longer have capacity to do even
minimal maintenance of it under the auspices of the ppc targets in general.
Therefore, this patch lists the main part of openpic, and marks it as
"Odd Fixes" to be looked after by Mark Cave-Ayland who handles the
Macintosh targets. The openpic_kvm variant is only used on e500, so
add it to the files for that machine type (itself already Orphaned).

With our interests moving to other areas, Greg and myself no longer have
capacity to be regular reviewers of code for the powernv machine type, let
alone co-maintainers. Additionally, not being IBM employees, we don't have
easy access to the hardware information we'd need for good review.
Therefore, remove our names as reviewers and/or co-maintainers of the
powernv machine type, and the related XIVE interrupt controller.

There are a nunber of old embedded ppc machine types which have been little
changed and in "Odd Fixes" state for a long time. With both myself and
Greg Kurz moving toward other areas, we no longer have the capacity to
keep reviewing and maintaining even the rare patches that come in for those
platforms.
Therefore, remove our names as reviewers and mark these platforms as
orphaned.

Currently the PowerPC TCG CPUs entry in MAINTAINERS lists all of hw/ppc/
and include/hw/ppc. Nearly all the files in those places are related to
specific ppc machine types, rather than to the actual CPUs however. Those
machine types list their own files separately, often overlapping with this.
For greater clarity, remove these misleading entries from the TCG CPUs
stanza, leaving just hw/ppc/ppc.c and hw/ppc/ppc_booke.c which are the only
ones common to a wide range of PPC TCG cpus each.

machine_ppc.py contains tests for 3 different ppc based machine types. It
is listed in MAINTAINERS along with the PPC TCG cpu code. That's not
really accurate though, since it's really more about testing those machines
than the CPUs.
Therefore, split it up into separate files for the separate machine types,
and list those along with their machine types in MAINTAINERS.
