All users of the block layers are supposed to go through a BlockBackend.
The .bdrv_create() implementation is one such user, so this patch

Now that QEMU wraps the Win32 sockets methods to automatically
set errno upon failure, there is no reason for callers to use
the socket_error() method. They can rely on accessing errno
even on Win32. Remove all use of socket_error() from general
code, leaving it as a static method in oslib-win32.c only.

The added parameter can be used to return the BDS pointer which the
valid offset is referring to. Its value should be ignored unless
BDRV_BLOCK_OFFSET_VALID in ret is set.
Until block drivers fill in the right value, let's clear it explicitly
right before calling .bdrv_get_block_status.
The "bs->file" condition in bdrv_co_get_block_status is kept now to keep iotest
case 102 passing, and will be fixed once all drivers return the right file

This patch refines discard support of the sheepdog driver. The
existing discard mechanism was implemented on SD_OP_DISCARD_OBJ, which
was introduced before fine grained reference counting on newer
sheepdog. It doesn't care about relations of snapshots and clones and
discards objects unconditionally.
With this patch, the driver just updates an inode object for updating
reference. Removing the object is done in sheep process side.

In the commit 96b14ff85acf, requests for overlapping areas are
serialized. However, it cannot handle a case of non overlapping
requests. In such a case, min_dirty_data_idx and max_dirty_data_idx
can be overwritten by the requests and invalid inode update can
happen e.g. a case like create(1, 2) and create(3, 4) are issued in
parallel.
This patch lets SheepdogAIOCB have dirty data indexes instead of
BDRVSheepdogState for avoiding the above situation.
This patch also does trivial renaming for better description:

2. serialize all requests (read, write, and discard), not only creates

Previously, qemu block driver of sheepdog used hard-coded VDI object size.
This patch enables users to handle VDI object size.
When you start qemu, you don't need to specify additional command option.
But when you create the VDI which doesn't have default object size
with qemu-img command, you specify object_size option.
If you want to create a VDI of 8MB object size,
you need to specify following command option.
# qemu-img create -o object_size=8M sheepdog:test1 100M
In addition, when you don't specify qemu-img command option,
a default value of sheepdog cluster is used for creating VDI.
# qemu-img create sheepdog:test2 100M

g_new(T, n) is safer than g_malloc(sizeof(*v) * n) for two reasons.
One, it catches multiplication overflowing size_t. Two, it returns
T * rather than void *, which lets the compiler catch more type
errors.
Perhaps a conversion to g_malloc_n() would be neater in places, but
that's merely four years old, and we can't use such newfangled stuff.
This commit only touches allocations with size arguments of the form
sizeof(T), plus two that use 4 instead of sizeof(uint32_t). We can
make the others safe by converting to g_malloc_n() when it becomes
available to us in a couple of years.

Currently copy_policy isn't used. Recent sheepdog supports erasure coding, which
make use of copy_policy internally, but require client explicitly passing
copy_policy from base inode to newly creately inode for snapshot related
operations.
If connected sheep daemon doesn't utilize copy_policy, passing it to sheep
daemon is just one extra null effect operation. So no compatibility problem.
With this patch, sheepdog can provide erasure coded volume for QEMU VM.

Snapshot creation actually already distinguish id and name since it take
a structured parameter *sn, but delete can't. Later an accurate delete
is needed in qmp_transaction abort and blockdev-snapshot-delete-sync,
so change its prototype. Also *errp is added to tip error, but return
value is kepted to let caller check what kind of error happens. Existing
caller for it are savevm, delvm and qemu-img, they are not impacted by
introducing a new function bdrv_snapshot_delete_by_id_or_name(), which
check the return value and do the operation again.
Before this patch:
For qcow2, it search id first then name to find the one to delete.
For rbd, it search name.
For sheepdog, it does nothing.
After this patch:
For qcow2, logic is the same by call it twice in caller.
For rbd, it always fails in delete with id, but still search for name
in second try, no change to user.

blockdev-add was that the old block layer code parses filenames instead

.has_zero_init defaults to 1 for all formats and protocols.
this is a dangerous default since this means that all
new added drivers need to manually overwrite it to 0 if
they do not ensure that a device is zero initialized
after bdrv_create().
if a driver needs to explicitly set this value to
1 its easier to verify the correctness in the review process.
during review of the existing drivers it turned out
that ssh and gluster had a wrong default of 1.
both protocols support host_devices as backend
which are not by default zero initialized. this
wrong assumption will lead to possible corruption
if qemu-img convert is used to write to such a backend.
vpc and vmdk also defaulted to 1 altough they support
fixed respectively flat extends. this has to be addresses
in separate patches. both formats as well as the mentioned
ssh and gluster are turned to the default of 0 with this
patch for safety.
a similar problem with the wrong default existed for
iscsi most likely because the driver developer did
oversee the default value of 1.

Just call sd_create_branch() in the snapshot_goto to rollback the image is good
enough. With this patch, 'loadvm' process for sheepdog is modified:
Suppose we have a snapshot chain A --> B --> C, we do 'loadvm A' so as to get

in the old code:
1 reload inode of A (in snapshot_goto)
2 read vmstate via A's vdi_id (loadvm_state)
3 delete C and create C1, reload inode of C1 (sd_create_branch on write)
with this patch applied:
1 reload inode of A, delete C and create C1 (in snapshot_goto)
2 read vmstate via C1's parent, that is A's vdi_id (loadvm_state)

Currently the 'loadvm' opertaion works as following:
1. switch to the snapshot
2. mark current working VDI as a snapshot
3. rely on sd_create_branch to create a new working VDI based on the snapshot
This works not the same as other format as QCOW2. For e.g,
qemu > savevm # get a live snapshot snap1
qemu > savevm # snap2
qemu > loadvm 1 # This will steally create snap3 of the working VDI
Which will result in following snapshot chain:
base <-- snap1 <-- snap2 <-- snap3
^
|
working VDI
snap3 was unnecessarily created and might be annoying users.
This patch discard the unnecessary 'snap3' creation. and implement
rollback(loadvm) operation to the specified snapshot by
1. switch to the snapshot
2. delete working VDI
3. rely on sd_create_branch to create a new working VDI based on the snapshot
The snapshot chain for above example will be:
base <-- snap1 <-- snap2
^

The same as for non-coroutine versions in previous
patches: rename arguments to be more obvious, change
type of arguments from int to size_t where appropriate,
and use common code for send and receive paths (with
one extra argument) since these are exactly the same.
Use common iov_send_recv() directly.
qemu_co_sendv(), qemu_co_recvv(), and qemu_co_recv()
are now trivial #define's merely adding one extra arg.
qemu_co_sendv() and qemu_co_recvv() callers are
converted to different argument order and extra
`iov_cnt' argument.

bdrv_create() is called in coroutine context now, so we cannot use
more stack than 1 MB in the function if we use ucontext coroutine.
This patch allocates BDRVSheepdogState, whose size is 4 MB, on the
heap in sd_create().

The co_recv coroutine has two things that will try to enter it:
1. The select(2) read callback on the sheepdog socket.
2. The aio_add_request() blocking operations, including a coroutine
mutex.
This patch fixes it by setting NULL to co_recv before sending data.
In future, we should make the sheepdog driver fully coroutine-based
and simplify request handling.

Outside coroutines, avoid busy waiting on EAGAIN by temporarily
making the socket blocking.
The API of qemu_recvv/qemu_sendv is slightly different from
do_readv/do_writev because they do not handle coroutines. It
returns the number of bytes written before encountering an
EAGAIN. The specificity of yielding on EAGAIN is entirely in
qemu-coroutine.c.

This makes the sheepdog block driver support bdrv_co_readv/writev
instead of bdrv_aio_readv/writev.
With this patch, Sheepdog network I/O becomes fully asynchronous. The
block driver yields back when send/recv returns EAGAIN, and is resumed
when the sheepdog network connection is ready for the operation.
