The tulip network driver in a qemu-system-hppa emulation is broken in
the sense that bigger network packages aren't received any longer and
thus even running e.g. "apt update" inside the VM fails.
The breakage was introduced by commit 8ffb7265af ("check frame size and
r/w data length") which added checks to prevent accesses outside of the
rx/tx buffers.
But the new checks were implemented wrong. The variable rx_frame_len
counts backwards, from rx_frame_size down to zero, and the variable len
is never bigger than rx_frame_len, so accesses just can't happen and the
checks are unnecessary.
On the contrary the checks now prevented bigger packages to be moved
into the rx buffers.
This patch reverts the wrong checks and were sucessfully tested with a
qemu-system-hppa emulation.

Devices may have component devices and buses.
Device realization may fail. Realization is recursive: a device's
realize() method realizes its components, and device_set_realized()
realizes its buses (which should in turn realize the devices on that
bus, except bus_set_realized() doesn't implement that, yet).
When realization of a component or bus fails, we need to roll back:
unrealize everything we realized so far. If any of these unrealizes
failed, the device would be left in an inconsistent state. Must not
happen.
device_set_realized() lets it happen: it ignores errors in the roll
back code starting at label child_realize_fail.
Since realization is recursive, unrealization must be recursive, too.
But how could a partly failed unrealize be rolled back? We'd have to
re-realize, which can fail. This design is fundamentally broken.
device_set_realized() does not roll back at all. Instead, it keeps
unrealizing, ignoring further errors.
It can screw up even for a device with no buses: if the lone
dc->unrealize() fails, it still unregisters vmstate, and calls
listeners' unrealize() callback.
bus_set_realized() does not roll back either. Instead, it stops
unrealizing.
Fortunately, no unrealize method can fail, as we'll see below.
To fix the design error, drop parameter @errp from all the unrealize
methods.
Any unrealize method that uses @errp now needs an update. This leads
us to unrealize() methods that can fail. Merely passing it to another
unrealize method cannot cause failure, though. Here are the ones that
do other things with @errp:
* virtio_serial_device_unrealize()
Fails when qbus_set_hotplug_handler() fails, but still does all the
other work. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
resources completely gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
qbus_set_hotplug_handler() can't actually fail here. Pass
&error_abort to qbus_set_hotplug_handler() instead.
* hw/ppc/spapr_drc.c's unrealize()
Fails when object_property_del() fails, but all the other work is
already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with its
vmstate registration gone. Oops. Can't happen, because
object_property_del() can't actually fail here. Pass &error_abort
to object_property_del() instead.
* spapr_phb_unrealize()
Fails and bails out when remove_drcs() fails, but other work is
already done. On failure, the device would stay realized with some
of its resources gone. Oops. remove_drcs() fails only when
chassis_from_bus()'s object_property_get_uint() fails, and it can't
here. Pass &error_abort to remove_drcs() instead.
Therefore, no unrealize method can fail before this patch.
device_set_realized()'s recursive unrealization via bus uses
object_property_set_bool(). Can't drop @errp there, so pass
&error_abort.
We similarly unrealize with object_property_set_bool() elsewhere,
always ignoring errors. Pass &error_abort instead.
Several unrealize methods no longer handle errors from other unrealize
methods: virtio_9p_device_unrealize(),
virtio_input_device_unrealize(), scsi_qdev_unrealize(), ...
Much of the deleted error handling looks wrong anyway.
One unrealize methods no longer ignore such errors:
usb_ehci_pci_exit().
Several realize methods no longer ignore errors when rolling back:
v9fs_device_realize_common(), pci_qdev_unrealize(),
spapr_phb_realize(), usb_qdev_realize(), vfio_ccw_realize(),
virtio_device_realize().

The only way object_property_add() can fail is when a property with
the same name already exists. Since our property names are all
hardcoded, failure is a programming error, and the appropriate way to
handle it is passing &error_abort.
Same for its variants, except for object_property_add_child(), which
additionally fails when the child already has a parent. Parentage is
also under program control, so this is a programming error, too.
We have a bit over 500 callers. Almost half of them pass
&error_abort, slightly fewer ignore errors, one test case handles
errors, and the remaining few callers pass them to their own callers.
The previous few commits demonstrated once again that ignoring
programming errors is a bad idea.
Of the few ones that pass on errors, several violate the Error API.
The Error ** argument must be NULL, &error_abort, &error_fatal, or a
pointer to a variable containing NULL. Passing an argument of the
latter kind twice without clearing it in between is wrong: if the
first call sets an error, it no longer points to NULL for the second
call. ich9_pm_add_properties(), sparc32_ledma_realize(),
sparc32_dma_realize(), xilinx_axidma_realize(), xilinx_enet_realize()
are wrong that way.
When the one appropriate choice of argument is &error_abort, letting
users pick the argument is a bad idea.
Drop parameter @errp and assert the preconditions instead.
There's one exception to "duplicate property name is a programming
error": the way object_property_add() implements the magic (and
undocumented) "automatic arrayification". Don't drop @errp there.
Instead, rename object_property_add() to object_property_try_add(),
and add the obvious wrapper object_property_add().

Coverity points out (CID 1421926) that the read code for
REG_ADDR_HIGH reads off the end of the buffer, because it does a
32-bit read from byte 4 of a 6-byte buffer.
The code also has an endianness issue for both REG_ADDR_HIGH and
REG_ADDR_LOW, because it will do the wrong thing on a big-endian
host.
Rewrite the read code to use ldl_le_p() and lduw_le_p() to fix this;
the write code is not incorrect, but for consistency we make it use
stl_le_p() and stw_le_p().

The i82596_receive() function attempts to pass the guest a buffer
which is effectively the concatenation of the data it is passed and a
4 byte CRC value. However, rather than implementing this as "write
the data; then write the CRC" it instead bumps the length value of
the data by 4, and writes 4 extra bytes from beyond the end of the
buffer, which it then overwrites with the CRC. It also assumed that
we could always fit all four bytes of the CRC into the final receive
buffer, which might not be true if the CRC needs to be split over two
receive buffers.
Calculate separately how many bytes we need to transfer into the
guest's receive buffer from the source buffer, and how many we need
to transfer from the CRC work.
We add a count 'bufsz' of the number of bytes left in the source
buffer, which we use purely to assert() that we don't overrun.
Spotted by Coverity (CID 1419396) for the specific case when we end
up using a local array as the source buffer.

Bit 29 ACK-CNA Acknowledges that the Command Unit became not active.
Bit 28 ACK-RNR Acknowledges that the Receive Unit became not ready.
- Status
Bit 15 CX The CU finished executing a command with its I(interrupt) bit set.
Bit 14 FR The RU finished receiving a frame.

Section 3.4.7 of the datasheet explains that,
The RBE bit in the Interrupt Status register is set when the
SONIC finishes using the second to last receive buffer and reads
the last RRA descriptor. Actually, the SONIC is not truly out of
resources, but gives the system an early warning of an impending
out of resources condition.
RBE does not mean actual receive buffer exhaustion, and reception should
not be stopped. This is important because Linux will not check and clear
the RBE interrupt until it receives another packet. But that won't
happen if can_receive returns false. This bug causes the SONIC to become
deaf (until reset).
Fix this with a new flag to indicate actual receive buffer exhaustion.

Data Bus: These bidirectional lines are used to transfer data on the
system bus. When the SONIC is a bus master, 16-bit data is transferred
on D15-D0 and 32-bit data is transferred on D31-D0. When the SONIC is
accessed as a slave, register data is driven onto lines D15-D0.
D31-D16 are held TRI-STATE if SONIC is in 16-bit mode. If SONIC is in
32-bit mode, they are driven, but invalid.
Always use 32-bit accesses both as bus master and bus slave.
Force the MSW to zero in bus master mode.
This gets the Linux 'jazzsonic' driver working, and avoids the need for
prior hacks to make the NetBSD 'sn' driver work.

The Least Significant bit of a descriptor address register is used as
an EOL flag. It has to be masked when the register value is to be used
as an actual address for copying memory around. But when the registers
are to be updated the EOL bit should not be masked.

The address_space_rw() function allows either reads or writes
depending on the is_write argument passed to it; this is useful
when the direction of the access is determined programmatically
(as for instance when handling the KVM_EXIT_MMIO exit reason).
Under the hood it just calls either address_space_write() or
address_space_read_full().
We also use it a lot with a constant is_write argument, though,
which has two issues:
* when reading "address_space_rw(..., 1)" this is less
immediately clear to the reader as being a write than
"address_space_write(...)"
* calling address_space_rw() bypasses the optimization
in address_space_read() that fast-paths reads of a
fixed length

Hi,
QDEV_PROP_PTR is marked in multiple places as "FIXME/TODO/remove
me". In most cases, it can be easily replaced with QDEV_PROP_LINK when
the pointer points to an Object.
There are a few places where such substitution isn't possible. For
those places, it seems reasonable to use a specific setter method
instead, and keep the user_creatable = false. In other places,
proper usage of qdev or other facilies is the solution.
The serial code wasn't converted to qdev, which makes it a bit more
archaic to deal with. Let's convert it first, so we can more easily
embed it from other devices, and re-export some properties and drop
QDEV_PROP_PTR usage.

Functions that take an Error ** parameter to pass an error to the
caller expect the parameter to point to null.
failover_replug_primary() violates this precondition in several
places:
* After qemu_opts_from_qdict() failed, *errp is no longer null.
Passing it to error_setg() is wrong, and will trip the assertion in
error_setv(). Messed up in commit 150ab54aa6 "net/virtio: fix
re-plugging of primary device". Simply drop the error_setg().
* Passing @errp to qemu_opt_set_bool(), hotplug_handler_pre_plug(),
and hotplug_handler_plug() is wrong. If one of the first two fails,
*errp is no longer null. Risks tripping the same assertion.
Moreover, continuing after such errors is unsafe. Messed up in
commit 9711cd0dfc "net/virtio: add failover support". Fix by
handling each error properly.
failover_replug_primary() crashes when passed a null @errp. Also
messed up in commit 9711cd0dfc. This bug can't bite as no caller
actually passes null. Fix it anyway.

virtio_net_handle_migration_primary() returns early when it can't
ensure n->primary_dev is non-null. Checking it again right after that
early return is redundant. Drop.
If n->primary_dev is null on entering failover_replug_primary(), @pdev
will become null, and pdev->partially_hotplugged will crash. Checking
n->primary_dev later is useless. It can't actually be null, because
its caller virtio_net_handle_migration_primary() ensures it isn't.
Drop the useless check.

.dev_unplug_pending is set up by virtio-net code indepent of failover
support was set for the device or not. This gives a wrong result when
we check for existing primary devices in migration code.
Fix this by actually calling dev_unplug_pending() instead of just
checking if the function pointer was set. When the feature was not
negotiated dev_unplug_pending() will always return false. This prevents
us from going into the wait-unplug state when there's no primary device
present.

The Linux kernel PHY driver sets AN_RESTART in the BMCR of the
PHY when autonegotiation is started.
Recently the kernel started to read back the PHY's AN_RESTART
bit and now checks whether the autonegotiation is complete and
the bit was cleared [1]. Otherwise the link status is down.
The emulated PHY needs to clear AN_RESTART immediately to inform
the kernel driver about the completion of autonegotiation phase.

This patch adds support to handle failover device pairs of a virtio-net
device and a (vfio-)pci device, where the virtio-net acts as the standby
device and the (vfio-)pci device as the primary.
The general idea is that we have a pair of devices, a (vfio-)pci and a
emulated (virtio-net) device. Before migration the vfio device is
unplugged and data flows to the emulated device, on the target side
another (vfio-)pci device is plugged in to take over the data-path. In the
guest the net_failover module will pair net devices with the same MAC
address.
To achieve this we need:
1. Provide a callback function for the should_be_hidden DeviceListener.
It is called when the primary device is plugged in. Evaluate the QOpt
passed in to check if it is the matching primary device. It returns
if the device should be hidden or not.
When it should be hidden it stores the device options in the VirtioNet
struct and the device is added once the VIRTIO_NET_F_STANDBY feature is
negotiated during virtio feature negotiation.
If the virtio-net devices are not realized at the time the (vfio-)pci
devices are realized, we need to connect the devices later. This way
we make sure primary and standby devices can be specified in any
order.
2. Register a callback for migration status notifier. When called it
will unplug its primary device before the migration happens.
3. Register a callback for the migration code that checks if a device
needs to be unplugged from the guest.

Currently the ptimer design uses a QEMU bottom-half as its
mechanism for calling back into the device model using the
ptimer when the timer has expired. Unfortunately this design
is fatally flawed, because it means that there is a lag
between the ptimer updating its own state and the device
callback function updating device state, and guest accesses
to device registers between the two can return inconsistent
device state.
We want to replace the bottom-half design with one where
the guest device's callback is called either immediately
(when the ptimer triggers by timeout) or when the device
model code closes a transaction-begin/end section (when the
ptimer triggers because the device model changed the
ptimer's count value or other state). As the first step,
rename ptimer_init() to ptimer_init_with_bh(), to free up
the ptimer_init() name for the new API. We can then convert
all the ptimer users away from ptimer_init_with_bh() before
removing it entirely.
(Commit created with
git grep -l ptimer_init | xargs sed -i -e 's/ptimer_init/ptimer_init_with_bh/'

As explained in commit aff39be0ed:
Both functions, object_initialize() and object_property_add_child()
increase the reference counter of the new object, so one of the
references has to be dropped afterwards to get the reference
counting right. Otherwise the child object will not be properly
cleaned up when the parent gets destroyed.
Thus let's use now object_initialize_child() instead to get the
reference counting here right.

This commit properly sets the ENET_BD_BDU flag once the emulated FEC controller
has finished processing the last descriptor. This is done for both transmit
and receive descriptors.
This allows the QNX 7.0.0 BSP for the Sabrelite board (which can be
found at http://blackberry.qnx.com/en/developers/bsp) to properly
control the FEC. Without this patch, the BSP ethernet driver will never
re-use FEC descriptors, as the unset ENET_BD_BDU flag will cause
it to believe that the descriptors are still in use by the NIC.
Note that Linux does not appear to use this field at all, and is
unaffected by this patch.
Without this patch, QNX will think that the NIC is still processing its
transaction descriptors, and won't send any more data over the network.
For reference:
On page 1192 of the I.MX 6DQ reference manual revision (Rev. 5, 06/2018),
which can be found at https://www.nxp.com/products/processors-and-microcontrollers/arm-based-processors-and-mcus/i.mx-applications-processors/i.mx-6-processors/i.mx-6quad-processors-high-performance-3d-graphics-hd-video-arm-cortex-a9-core:i.MX6Q?&tab=Documentation_Tab&linkline=Application-Note
the 'BDU' field is described as follows for the 'Enhanced transmit
buffer descriptor':
'Last buffer descriptor update done. Indicates that the last BD data has been updated by
uDMA. This field is written by the user (=0) and uDMA (=1).'
The same description is used for the receive buffer descriptor.

sysemu/sysemu.h is a rather unfocused dumping ground for stuff related
to the system-emulator. Evidence:
* It's included widely: in my "build everything" tree, changing
sysemu/sysemu.h still triggers a recompile of some 1100 out of 6600
objects (not counting tests and objects that don't depend on
qemu/osdep.h, down from 5400 due to the previous two commits).
* It pulls in more than a dozen additional headers.
Split stuff related to run state management into its own header
sysemu/runstate.h.
Touching sysemu/sysemu.h now recompiles some 850 objects. qemu/uuid.h
also drops from 1100 to 850, and qapi/qapi-types-run-state.h from 4400
to 4200. Touching new sysemu/runstate.h recompiles some 500 objects.
Since I'm touching MAINTAINERS to add sysemu/runstate.h anyway, also

TYPE_IOMMU_MEMORY_REGION is a direct subtype of TYPE_MEMORY_REGION.
Its instance struct is IOMMUMemoryRegion, and its first member is a
MemoryRegion. Correct. Its class struct is IOMMUMemoryRegionClass,
and its first member is a DeviceClass. Wrong. Messed up when commit
1221a47467 introduced the QOM type. It even included hw/qdev-core.h
just for that.
TYPE_MEMORY_REGION doesn't bother to define a class struct. This is
fine, it simply defaults to its super-type TYPE_OBJECT's class struct
ObjectClass. Changing IOMMUMemoryRegionClass's first member's type to
ObjectClass would be a minimal fix, if a bit brittle: if
TYPE_MEMORY_REGION ever acquired own class struct, we'd have to update
IOMMUMemoryRegionClass to use it.
Fix it the clean and robust way instead: give TYPE_MEMORY_REGION its
own class struct MemoryRegionClass now, and use it for
IOMMUMemoryRegionClass's first member.
Revert the include of hw/qdev-core.h, and fix the few files that have
come to rely on it.

At some point vmxnet3 live migration stopped working and git-bisect
didn't help finding a working version.
The issue is the PCI configuration space is not being migrated
successfully and MSIX remains masked at destination.
Remove the migration differentiation between PCI and PCIe since
the logic resides now inside VMSTATE_PCI_DEVICE.
Remove also the VMXNET3_COMPAT_FLAG_DISABLE_PCIE based differentiation
since at 'realize' time is decided if the device is PCI or PCIe,
then the above macro is enough.
Use the opportunity to move to the standard VMSTATE_MSIX
instead of the deprecated SaveVMHandlers.

Previously there was a single instance of the timer used by
monitor triggered announces, that's OK, but when combined with the
previous change that lets you have announces for subsets of interfaces
it's a bit restrictive if you want to do different things to different
interfaces.
Add an 'id' field to the announce, and maintain a list of the
timers based on id.
This allows you to for example:
a) Start an announce going on interface eth0 for a long time
b) Start an announce going on interface eth1 for a long time
c) Kill the announce on eth0 while leaving eth1 going.

A Xen public header have been imported into QEMU (by
f65eadb639 "xen: import ring.h from xen"), but there are other header
that depends on ring.h which come from the system when building QEMU.
This patch resolves the issue of having headers from the system
importing a different copie of ring.h.
This patch is prompt by the build issue described in the previous
patch: 'Revert xen/io/ring.h of "Clean up a few header guard symbols"'
ring.h and the new imported headers are moved to
"include/hw/xen/interface" as those describe interfaces with a guest.
The imported headers are cleaned up a bit while importing them: some
part of the file that QEMU doesn't use are removed (description
of how to make hypercall in grant_table.h have been removed).
Other cleanup:
- xen-mapcache.c and xen-legacy-backend.c don't need grant_table.h.
- xenfb.c doesn't need event_channel.h.

In situations where e1000 receives an undersized Ethernet frame,
QEMU increments the emulated "Receive Undersize Count (RUC)"
register when padding the frame.
This is incorrect because this an expected scenario (e.g. with
VLAN tag stripping) and not an error. As such, QEMU should not
increment the emulated RUC.

The qemu coding standard is to use CamelCase for type and structure names,
and the pseries code follows that... sort of. There are quite a lot of
places where we bend the rules in order to preserve the capitalization of
internal acronyms like "PHB", "TCE", "DIMM" and most commonly "sPAPR".
That was a bad idea - it frequently leads to names ending up with hard to
read clusters of capital letters, and means they don't catch the eye as
type identifiers, which is kind of the point of the CamelCase convention in
the first place.
In short, keeping type identifiers look like CamelCase is more important
than preserving standard capitalization of internal "words". So, this
patch renames a heap of spapr internal type names to a more standard
CamelCase.
In addition to case changes, we also make some other identifier renames:
VIOsPAPR* -> SpaprVio*
The reverse word ordering was only ever used to mitigate the capital
cluster, so revert to the natural ordering.
VIOsPAPRVTYDevice -> SpaprVioVty
VIOsPAPRVLANDevice -> SpaprVioVlan
Brevity, since the "Device" didn't add useful information
sPAPRDRConnector -> SpaprDrc
sPAPRDRConnectorClass -> SpaprDrcClass
Brevity, and makes it clearer this is the same thing as a "DRC"
mentioned in many other places in the code
This is 100% a mechanical search-and-replace patch. It will, however,
conflict with essentially any and all outstanding patches touching the
spapr code.

hw/net/vhost_net.c needs functions that are declared in net/vhost-user.c: the
vhost-user code is always compiled into QEMU, only the constructor
net_init_vhost_user is unreachable. Also, net/vhost-user.c needs functions
declared in hw/virtio/vhost-stub.c even if no virtio device exists.
Break this dependency. First, add a minimal version of net/vhost-user.c,
with no functionality and no dependency on vhost code. Second, #ifdef out
the calls back to net/vhost-user.c from hw/net/vhost_net.c.

This commit adds implementation of RX packets
coalescing, compatible with requirements of Windows
Hardware compatibility kit.
The device enables feature VIRTIO_NET_F_RSC_EXT in
host features if it supports extended RSC functionality
as defined in the specification.
This feature requires at least one of VIRTIO_NET_F_GUEST_TSO4,
VIRTIO_NET_F_GUEST_TSO6. Windows guest driver acks
this feature only if VIRTIO_NET_F_CTRL_GUEST_OFFLOADS
is also present.
If the guest driver acks VIRTIO_NET_F_RSC_EXT feature,
the device coalesces TCPv4 and TCPv6 packets (if
respective VIRTIO_NET_F_GUEST_TSO feature is on,
populates extended RSC information in virtio header
and sets VIRTIO_NET_HDR_F_RSC_INFO bit in header flags.
The device does not recalculate checksums in the coalesced
packet, so they are not valid.
In this case:
All the data packets in a tcp connection are cached
to a single buffer in every receive interval, and will
be sent out via a timer, the 'virtio_net_rsc_timeout'
controls the interval, this value may impact the
performance and response time of tcp connection,
50000(50us) is an experience value to gain a performance
improvement, since the whql test sends packets every 100us,
so '300000(300us)' passes the test case, it is the default
value as well, tune it via the command line parameter
'rsc_interval' within 'virtio-net-pci' device, for example,
to launch a guest with interval set as '500000':
'virtio-net-pci,netdev=hostnet1,bus=pci.0,id=net1,mac=00,
guest_rsc_ext=on,rsc_interval=500000'
The timer will only be triggered if the packets pool is not empty,
and it'll drain off all the cached packets.
'NetRscChain' is used to save the segments of IPv4/6 in a
VirtIONet device.
A new segment becomes a 'Candidate' as well as it passed sanity check,
the main handler of TCP includes TCP window update, duplicated
ACK check and the real data coalescing.
An 'Candidate' segment means:
1. Segment is within current window and the sequence is the expected one.
2. 'ACK' of the segment is in the valid window.
Sanity check includes:
1. Incorrect version in IP header
2. An IP options or IP fragment
3. Not a TCP packet
4. Sanity size check to prevent buffer overflow attack.
5. An ECN packet
Even though, there might more cases should be considered such as
ip identification other flags, while it breaks the test because
windows set it to the same even it's not a fragment.
Normally it includes 2 typical ways to handle a TCP control flag,
'bypass' and 'finalize', 'bypass' means should be sent out directly,
while 'finalize' means the packets should also be bypassed, but this
should be done after search for the same connection packets in the
pool and drain all of them out, this is to avoid out of order fragment.
All the 'SYN' packets will be bypassed since this always begin a new'
connection, other flags such 'URG/FIN/RST/CWR/ECE' will trigger a
finalization, because this normally happens upon a connection is going
to be closed, an 'URG' packet also finalize current coalescing unit.
Statistics can be used to monitor the basic coalescing status, the
'out of order' and 'out of window' means how many retransmitting packets,
thus describe the performance intuitively.
Difference between ip v4 and v6 processing:
Fragment length in ipv4 header includes itself, while it's not
included for ipv6, thus means ipv6 can carry a real 65535 payload.
Note that main goal of implementing this feature in software
is to create reference setup for certification tests. In such
setups guest migration is not required, so the coalesced packets
not yet delivered to the guest will be lost in case of migration.

...and xen_backend.h to xen-legacy-backend.h
Rather than attempting to convert the existing backend infrastructure to
be QOM compliant (which would be hard to do in an incremental fashion),
subsequent patches will introduce a completely new framework for Xen PV
backends. Hence it is necessary to re-name parts of existing code to avoid
name clashes. The re-named 'legacy' infrastructure will be removed once all
backends have been ported to the new framework.
This patch is purely cosmetic. No functional change.

The e1000 emulation silently discards RX packets if there's
insufficient space in the ring buffer. This leads to errors
on higher-level protocols in the guest, with no indication
about the error cause.
This patch increments the "Missed Packets Count" (MPC) and
"Receive No Buffers Count" (RNBC) HW counters in this case.
As the emulation has no FIFO for buffering packets that can't
immediately be pushed to the guest, these two registers are
practically equivalent (see 10.2.7.4, 10.2.7.33 in
https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/embedded/products/networking/82574l-gbe-controller-datasheet.html).
On a Linux guest, the register content will be reflected in
the "rx_missed_errors" and "rx_no_buffer_count" stats from
"ethtool -S", and in the "missed" stat from "ip -s -s link show",
giving at least some hint about the error cause inside the guest.
If the cause is known, problems like this can often be avoided
easily, by increasing the number of RX descriptors in the guest
e1000 driver (e.g under Linux, "e1000.RxDescriptors=1024").
The patch also adds a qemu trace message for this condition.

The only difference between our implementation of the pcnet ioport
accessors and the mmio accessors is that the former check BCR_DWIO to
see what access widths are permitted for addresses in the aprom range
(0x0..0xf). In fact our failure to do this in the mmio accessors
is a bug (one which was fixed for the ioport accessors in
commit 7ba7974197 in 2011).
The data sheet for the Am79C970A does not describe the DWIO
bit as only applying for I/O space mapped I/O resources and
not memory mapped I/O resources, and our MMIO accessors already
honour DWIO for accesses in the 0x10..0x1f range (since the
pcnet_ioport_{read,write}{w,l} functions check it).
The data sheet for the later but compatible Am79C976 is clearer:
it states specifically "DWIO mode applies to both I/O- and
memory-mapped acceses." This seems to be reasonable evidence
in favour of interpretating the Am79C970A spec as being the same.
(NB: Linux's pcnet driver only supports I/O accesses, so the
MMIO access part of this device is probably untested anyway.)

Convert the pcnet-pci device away from using the old_mmio
MemoryRegionOps accessor functions.
This commit is a no-behaviour-change API conversion.
(Since PCNET_PNPMMIO_SIZE is 0x20, the old "addr & 0x10"
check and the new "addr < 0x10" check are exact opposites;
the new code is phrased to be parallel with the
pcnet_io_read/write functions.)
I have left a TODO comment marker because the similarity
between the MMIO and IO accessor behaviour is suspicious
and they could be combined, but this will be left to a
different patch.

The generated qapi_event_send_FOO() take an Error ** argument. They
can't actually fail, because all they do with the argument is passing it
to functions that can't fail: the QObject output visitor, and the
@qmp_emit callback, which is either monitor_qapi_event_queue() or
event_test_emit().
Drop the argument, and pass &error_abort to the QObject output visitor
and @qmp_emit instead.

Interrupt conditions occurring while masked are not being
signaled when later unmasked.
The fix is to raise/lower IRQs when IMASK is changed.
To avoid problems like this in future, consolidate
IRQ pin update logic in one function.
Also fix probable typo "IEVENT_TXF | IEVENT_TXF",
and update IRQ pins on reset.

Currently we use memory_region_init_rom_nomigrate() to create
the "dp3893x-prom" memory region, and we don't manually register
it with vmstate_register_ram(). This currently means that its
contents are migrated but as a ram block whose name is the empty
string; in future it may mean they are not migrated at all. Use
memory_region_init_ram() instead.
Note that this is a a cross-version migration compatibility break
for the MIPS "magnum" and "pica61" machines.

E1000_ICR_OTHER is set in EIAC. In fact, removing this code fixes the

A link property can be set during creation, with
object_property_add_link() and later with object_property_set_link().
add_link() doesn't add a reference to the target object, while
set_link() does.
Furthemore, OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE flags, set during add_link,
says whether a reference must be released when the property is destroyed.
This can lead to leaks if the property was later set_link(), as the
added reference is never released.
Instead, rename OBJ_PROP_LINK_UNREF_ON_RELEASE to OBJ_PROP_LINK_STRONG
and use that has an indication on how the link handle reference
management in set_link().
