build: replace weak symbols with a static library Weak symbols were a nice idea, but they turned out not to be a good one. Toolchain support is just too sparse, in particular llvm-gcc is totally broken. This patch uses a surprisingly low-tech approach: a static library. Symbols in a static library are always overridden by symbols in an object file. Furthermore, if you place each function in a separate source file, object files for unused functions will not be taken in. This means that each function can use all the dependencies that it needs (especially QAPI stuff such as error_setg). Thus, all stubs are placed in separate object files and put together in a static library. The library then is linked to all programs. authz: add QAuthZ object as an authorization base class The current qemu_acl module provides a simple access control list facility inside QEMU, which is used via a set of monitor commands acl_show, acl_policy, acl_add, acl_remove & acl_reset. Note there is no ability to create ACLs - the network services (eg VNC server) were expected to create ACLs that they want to check. There is also no way to define ACLs on the command line, nor potentially integrate with external authorization systems like polkit, pam, ldap lookup, etc. The QAuthZ object defines a minimal abstract QOM class that can be subclassed for creating different authorization providers. Drop --whole-archive and static libraries Juan has contributed a cool Makefile infrastructure that enables us to drop static libraries completely: Move shared obj-y definitions to Makefile.objs, prefixed {common-,hw-,user-}, and link those object files directly into the executables. Replace HWLIB by HWDIR, specifying only the directory. Drop --whole-archive and ARLIBS in Makefiles and configure. Drop GENERATED_HEADERS dependency in rules.mak, since this rebuilds all common objects after generating a target-specific header; add dependency rules to Makefile and Makefile.target instead. v2: - Don't try to include /config.mak for user emulators - Changes to user object paths ("Quickfix for libuser.a drop") were obsoleted by "user_only: compile everything with -fpie" (Kirill A. io: add abstract QIOChannel classes Start the new generic I/O channel framework by defining a QIOChannel abstract base class. This is designed to feel similar to GLib's GIOChannel, but with the addition of support for using iovecs, qemu error reporting, file descriptor passing, coroutine integration and use of the QOM framework for easier sub-classing. The intention is that anywhere in QEMU that almost anywhere that deals with sockets will use this new I/O infrastructure, so that it becomes trivial to then layer in support for TLS encryption. w32: Add missing version.o to all executables (fix regression) QEMU executables for w32, w64 had included meta information built from version.rc. These rules were changed several times some months ago. The latest version added version.o to the tools, but not to the system emulations.
