Benno Schulenberg 7d8f13b9f7 build: use the standard `autoreconf` invocation 
As version 0.20 of `autopoint` no longer overwrites 'extern-inline.m4',
there is no need any more for the custom calls of the various parts of
`autoreconf`.

This effectively reverts commit 4a1db96d from two and a half years ago.

Mike Frysinger d8848df14f gnulib: import canonicalize-lgpl for realpath 
Building for mingw fails due to missing realpath.  Pull in the gnulib
module to get it working again.

Benno Schulenberg 4a1db96db8 build: prevent autopoint from overwriting a newer M4 file from gnulib 
For some reason, 'autopoint' (invoked by 'autoreconf') insists on
overwriting 'extern-inline.m4', even though the version from gnulib
is newer and contains a fix for a build issue on macOS with GCC 11.

So, do as the documentation says, and invoke 'autopoint' before
'gnulib-tool' (and call 'aclocal' to 'automake' afterwards).

Benno Schulenberg 694cd9ddd4 build: ensure that mkstemps() is available by importing the gnulib module 
The mkstemps() function is not part of the POSIX standard,
so there might be some platforms that don't have it.

Benno Schulenberg 2770ec81e2 build: make a deeper clone of gnulib (when building from git) 
This increases the chances that the wanted hash will be present in
the checkout when we haven't changed the hash for a few months.
