b3bb157ad5 These are a bunch of changes to fix CORBA and session management. They
are almost complete (i.e. to handle all nitty gritty cases), but they
seem to be working OK right now. SM should be much more stable now.
Please tell me if you find any weird behavior - Federico

1999-03-30  Federico Mena Quintero  <federico@nuclecu.unam.mx>

	* gdesktop-icon.c (desktop_icon_realize): Remove the
	WM_CLIENT_LEADER property from icon windows so that window
	managers will not store SM information for them.

	* gnome-open-dialog.c: Added missing #includes.

	* gdesktop-init.c (desktop_init_at): Removed an unused variable.

	* gdesktop.h: Added some missing prototypes.

	* gmain.h: Added some missing prototypes.

	* Makefile.in: Added gsession.[ch] to the list of sources.

	* gmain.c (create_panels): Consider whether we have a CORBA server
	and session management.

	* gdesktop.c: #include "gdesktop-init.h"
	* gdesktop.c: Added a missing cast to GNOME_DIALOG.

	* gmain.c (create_panels): Removed the run_desktop global
	variable.

	* glayout.c (create_container): Set the wmclass of the panel to
	include its unique ID.

	* gsession.[ch]: New file with the functions that deal with
	session management.

	* glayout.c (gnome_exit): Use session_set_restart().

	* gcorba.c (corba_init): Now returns an int with an error value.
	(corba_init_server): Initialize the server properly.
	Fixed all the object implementation code.
	(corba_create_window): New function used to create a window with
	the CORBA server.

	* gmain.c (gnome_check_super_user): Now the check for running as
	root is done here. There should be no GUI code in src/.

1999-03-30  Federico Mena Quintero  <federico@nuclecu.unam.mx>

	* dlg.c (dlg_run_done): Do not call the callback of a NULL current
	widget.

	* setup.h: Added missing prototype for setup_init().

	* filegui.c (check_progress_buttons): Added a missing return
	value.

	* dlg.c (remove_widget): Added a missing return value.

	* main.c: Removed the global directory_list variable.
	Removed the main_corba_register_server() function.

	* main.h: Removed the global run_desktop variable.

	* panel.h: Now the panel structure has a unique numerical ID used
	for session management.

	* screen.c (panel_new): Maintain a unique ID for each panel.

	* main.c (maybe_display_linksdir): Handle display of the desktop
	init dir here.
	(main): Call gnome_check_super_user().
	(init_corba_with_args): Call corba_init_server().

	* main.c (init_corba_with_args): Do CORBA initialization here. Also
	removed the global force_activation option.

1999-03-30  Federico Mena Quintero  <federico@nuclecu.unam.mx>

	* vfs.c (vfs_add_current_stamps): Only do stamping of the panels
	if they exist.

	* mcserv.c: #include <sys/wait.h>
	(get_client): Put `#ifdef __EMX__' around an otherwise-unused
	variable.

	* utilvfs.c (vfs_split_url): Fix NULL <-> 0 confusion when
	comparing characters.

	* ftpfs.c (retrieve_dir): Removed unused variable dot_dot_found.

* panel.h, screen.c: Add an ability to center justify fields in
	panel, in addition to left and right justificatin. Just for fun.
	Try =name in user format.

	* util.c (name_quote): Quote "~@^|;:". Hope, that's all :)

* file.c (erase_file): Here we need to mc_lstat(), not mc_stat().
	Since we use the resulting buf.st_size to update the progress, we
	need the size of unresolved links. This also makes it consistent
	with screen.c:do_file_mark().

	* screen.c (select_item): Return immediately if this is a desktop
	panel.

1999-03-12  Federico Mena Quintero  <federico@nuclecu.unam.mx>

	* gdesktop.c (create_panel_from_desktop): Do not assert that
	panel->count > 0, because we may actually not have any icons in
	the desktop.
	(desktop_popup): Reload the desktop once the popup menu is done.
	(create_panel_from_desktop): Be consistent with the way totals are
	computed in screen.c:do_file_mark().

This is a semi-big slew of changes to integrate the DESKTOP_BRANCH
	into the main trunk. Now the gdesktop code creates a temprary
	WPanel structure and passes it on to the core file management
	functions.  Also, the menu code is improved (we now use gpopup2;
	gpopup should go away shortly and gpopup2 should replace it).
	This makes the desktop act consistently with the file panels.
	Thanks to Jonathan for his help with this branch.

	* gdnd.c (perform_action): Use mc_lstat(), not mc_stat().

	* glayout.c (update_panels): Do not update the panels that are
	desktop panels.

	* gdesktop.c (icon_is_in_area): An icon is not considered to be in
	a 0x0 area.

	* gpopup2.c (handle_open): Fetch the desktop icon from the
	filename and call desktop_icon_info_open().

	* gdesktop.c (desktop_icon_info_get_by_filename): New function to
	look up a desktop icon by its filename.

	* glayout.c (create_new_menu_from): Test for the ".desktop" suffix
	correctly.

	* gpopup2.c (handle_properties): If the file comes from a desktop
	panel, always allow edition of the icon image.

1999-03-10  Federico Mena Quintero  <federico@nuclecu.unam.mx>

	* file.c (erase_dir): Erase metadata for directories as well.
	(erase_dir_iff_empty): Likewise.
	(copy_file_file): Delete/copy the metadata even for
	char/block/sock/fifo files. Same thing for when copying symlinks.
	(copy_dir_dir): Delete/copy the metadata.
	(move_dir_dir): Delete/move the metadata.
	(recursive_erase): Delete the metadata.

* main.c (panel_clean_dir): New function: reset all counters of a
WPanel and clean directory list.

* various places: Use panel_clean_dir instead of clean_dir whenever
a WPanel is available. This solves the problem reported by Enrico
Scholz (screen refresh while panel reload with an old/now invalid
panel->count).

* dir.c (if_link_is_exe): Made this function take in a directory
	argument as well -- the sought file may not be in the cwd, and
	file entries do not carry the directory the file refers to.

	* screen.c (do_enter_on_file_entry): Pass in the cpanel->cwd to
	if_link_is_exe().

1999-02-17  Federico Mena Quintero  <federico@nuclecu.unam.mx>

	* gdesktop.c (do_mount_umount): Removed unused variable.
	(do_eject): Return FALSE if there is no eject command.
	(setup_devices): Removed unused variable.

	* gdnd.c (drop_on_file): Pass the directory to if_link_is_exe().
	(gdnd_validate_action): Likewise.
	(gdnd_perform_drop): Made consistent with the rest of the code by
	taking the directory name along with the file entry.
	(gdnd_validate_action): Likewise.

	* gdesktop.c (icon_drag_motion): Pass the directory to the gdnd
	functions.
	(icon_drag_data_received): Likewise.
	(desktop_drag_motion): Likewise.
	(desktop_drag_data_received): Likewise.
	(desktop_icon_info_open): Pass the directory to if_link_is_exe().

	* gscreen.c (panel_icon_list_drag_data_received): Pass the
	directory to gdnd functions.

66cdc9efa2 screen.c mods
Mon Feb  1 00:43:15 1999  Timur Bakeyev <mc@bat.ru>

	* screen.c (to_buffer): Code of the function rewritten, as a side
	effect added J_CENTER (who needs this?). Also, justification flags
	got twins with _FIT suffix, which tries to fit name in the field with-
	out truncation (uses name_trunc()). This unifies behaviour of CList
	variants and text-bases widgets.

	* screen.c: Remove HAVE_GNOME wrappers around string_file_[name|owner|
	group]() - not necessary, to_buffer() doing this work.

f75a6470ca Rerun configure when you have problems with missing slang.h.
Sun Jan 31 20:04:13 1999  Norbert Warmuth  <nwarmuth@privat.circular.de>

* vfs/vfs.c (vfs_strip_suffix_from_filename): Whoever replaces every
occurance of 0 with NULL should stop this stupidy. And replacing '\0'
with NULL is plain wrong!!. Reverted this replacement.

* vfs/ftpfs.c (load_no_proxy_list): ditto

Fri Jan 29 22:55:56 1999  Norbert Warmuth  <nwarmuth@privat.circular.de>

* slang/slang.h: renamed to slang-mc.h

* slang/Makefile.in: delete slang.h on "make clean"

* configure.in: link slang/slang-mc.h to slang/slang.h when the
included slang is used. Problem was that MC's slang.h was used
when we compiled with an already installed SLang and the systems
header file were included with <slang/slang.h>.
Unfortunatly I can't use AC_LINK_FILES to make the links because
if we needn't make any links AC_LINK_FILES makes a link from
srcdir to top_builddir (builddir != srcdir).

Temporary add $LGPM to $LIBS when checking for the resizeterm
and keyok functions (ncurses might be linked against GPM).

Substitude PACKAGE (intl/Makefile makes use of it)

Sun Jan 31 19:42:47 1999  Norbert Warmuth  <nwarmuth@privat.circular.de>

* gnome/Makefile.in (install_mx): make it work with srcdir != builddir
(gmc.gnorba is located in $srcdir)

* src/hotlist.c (add_new_entry_input, add_new_group_input): Make the
quick_widget arrays static and various changes needed because they
are now static. add_widgets_i18n recalculates button positions
which get lost when the quick_widget arrays are non static.

* src/screen.c (to_buffer): nul terminate string when using strncpy

* src/setup.c: Save and restore new option ftpfs_first_cd_then_ls.

Sun Jan 31 19:57:24 1999  Norbert Warmuth  <nwarmuth@privat.circular.de>

* vfs/ftpfs.c (insert_dot): New function. Insert a "." into the linked
list. Stat'ing the root directory of a ftpfs fails if the dot is
missing.

(retrieve_dir): insert "." into the linked list if the ftp server
haven't send it.

Sun Jan 31 19:50:24 1999  Norbert Warmuth  <nwarmuth@privat.circular.de>

* The following changes make ftpfs work with a remote AmiTCP
server are the result of somehow longish EMail debugging session. I
don't know any public server of this kind but I was told the
combination Unix/Amiga boxes are often used in intranets.

* vfs/ftpfs.c (translate_path): New function. Translate a Unix path,
i.e. MC's internal path representation (e.g. /somedir/somefile) to
a path valid for the remote server. Every path transfered to the
remote server has to be mangled by this function right prior to
sending it. Currently only Amiga ftp servers are handled in a
special manner.

* vfs/ftpfs.c (various places): use translate_path

* vfs/ftpfs.c (login_server): Assume we have to mangle pathnames if
the greatings string from the server contains the word Amiga. If
this assumption is wrong I have to find another way to turn on
path translation.

* vfs/ftpfs.c (ftpfs_get_current_directory): Prepend a leading slash
if it is missing. MC needs it as seperator between hostname and
path in its internal url representation.

a39568367e Glibing..... (2)
Wed Jan 27 03:17:44 1999  Timur Bakeyev <mc@bat.ru>

	* Converted memory managment to Glib. Now we use g_new()/g_malloc()/
	g_strdup()/g_free() routings. Also, copy_strings() replaced by
	g_strconcat(), strcasecmp() -> g_strcasecmp(),and sprintf() by
	g_snprintf().

	* Some sequences of malloc()/sprintf() changed to g_strdup_printf().

	* mad.[ch]: Modified, to work with new GLib's memory managment. Fixed
	a missing #undef for tempnam, which caused dead loop. Add several new
	functions to emulate GLib memory managment.

	*main.c, mad.[ch]: Add a new switch "-M", which allows to redirect MAD
	messages to the file.

	* util.[ch], utilunix.c: Modified, deleted our variants of strcasecmp()
	and strdup() - we have g_ equivalences. Remove get_full_name() - it is
	similar to concat_dir_and_file(). Some other tricks with g_* functions.

	* global.h: Modified, extended. Now it is main memory mangment include -
	i.e. all inclusions of <stdlib.h>, <malloc.h>, <glib.h>, "fs.h", "mem.h",
	"util.h" and "mad.h" done there. This elimanates problem with proper or-
	der of #include's.

	* All around the source - changed order of #include's, most of them gone
	to global.h (see above), minor changes, like "0" -> NULL in string func-
	tions.

* doc/mc.sgml, mc1.in (Color section): minor polishing
(Layout section): documented Highlight...

* gnome/gmain.c: According to the man page the color keyword for executable
files is `executable' and not `execute' -- changed.

* file.c (progress_update_one): Ignore files in subdirectories
when panel totals haven't been computed.

(erase_dir, erase_file): update progress bar (i.e. make it work
for OP_DELETE).

(panel_operate_flags): Don't compute panel totals for OP_MOVE.
When moving files on the same filesystem computing totals might
last much longer than the actual move operation.

(various places): adpations for the above changes.

* slint.c (try_alloc_color_pair): Changed hardcoded values into
defines.

* color.c, text.c: Added color "stalledlink" which is used for
stalled symbolic links. Formerly "viewunderline" was used for
this (IMO bad because function and name didn't match).
According to the man page the color keyword for executable files
is `executable' and not `execute' -- changed.

* color.c, color.h: When using SLang some color indexes are not
freely choosable (DEFAULT_COLOR clashed with A_BOLD_REVERSE).
Solved by adding holes in color_map.

by Miguel, i.e. get rid of du. Now the dirsizes_cmd honours a
selection and computes sizes only for marked directories. Possible
improvement: add a dialog (or C-C?) to abort computation.

* dir.h (file_entry), panel.h (WPanel): Made the dirsizes computed
flag a per file flag.

* dir.c, find.c, panelize.c, screen.c: Adapted to new file_entry and

* screen.c (Xtry_to_select): Don't select a similar file when
"name" can't be found in the panel (when deleting files the
selection jumpped from the deleted "file" to a directory which
started with the same character as "file", annoying).
Strip known vfs suffixes from "name" before trying to select

vfs is mature enough to do this.

which has to be freed. Possible improvement: strip vfs suffix from

	outside of bounds.

595c9f87d8 Keyboard works on iconic view. It is basically done.
We now just need to get some nice icons.

I am also revamping a little the toolbar, to have a switch to
icon mode and switch to listing mode icons. To make people
happy.  More on this tomorrow.

	* gwidget.c (x_update_input): Keep the cursor always visible.

	* gview.c (view): Use a buttonbar widget.

	* gwidget.c (buttonbar_clicked): Provide a trivial implementation
	of the buttonbar that only responds to key sequences.

	* gmain.c (dialog_panel_callback): Call midnight_callback to get
	the main bindings working.

	* gdesktop.c (perform_drop_manually): Use p to walk the dropped
	data. This is an important bug fix.

	* gmain.c (idle_destroy_window), main.c: Session management now
	supports not showing a toplevel window (in case all of the windows
	were closed).

1998-05-04  Miguel de Icaza  <miguel@nuclecu.unam.mx>

	* view.c (view_quit_cmd): Use dlg_stop.

	* main.c (ctl_x_cmd): Implement ctl-x handling as a state of the
	key press events. Drop the usage of mi_getch to acomplish this
	task.
	(midnight_callback): Deal with the current map depending on the
	c-x state.
