Simply put, legacy. And because a lot of Linux users expect it to "work that way". ext2/3/4 support has been dropped as of Limine 5.x. This is explicitly against the philosophy, but it is a pragmatic compromise since a lot of Linux distros and setups expect it to "work that way".
