This change uses _BEOS_R5_COMPATIBLE_ to determine which function prototype to use.

navigating the menus via keyboard.
I also factored some code into functions, in particular the code to
add the dynamic items. Also keep track if the dynamic items have been added
or not (using a new boolean class member).
I tested for regressions but couldn't find any.

the constraint can be expressed more precisely. ATM B_32_BIT_FULL_LOCK is
implemented as B_32_BIT_CONTIGUOUS when B_HAIKU_PHYSICAL_BITS > 32, though.

restrictions for virtual/physical addresses.
* vm_page_allocate_page_run():
- Fixed conversion of base/limit to array indexes. sPhysicalPageOffset was not
taken into account.
- Takes a physical_address_restrictions instead of base/limit and also
supports alignment and boundary restrictions, now.
* map_backing_store(), VM[User,Kernel]AddressSpace::InsertArea()/
ReserveAddressRange() take a virtual_address_restrictions parameter, now. They
also support an alignment independent from the range size.
* create_area_etc(), vm_create_anonymous_area(): Take
{virtual,physical}_address_restrictions parameters, now.
* Removed no longer needed B_PHYSICAL_BASE_ADDRESS.
* DMAResources:
- Fixed potential overflows of uint32 when initializing from device node
attributes.
- Fixed bounce buffer creation TODOs: By using create_area_etc() with the
new restrictions parameters we can directly support physical high address,
boundary, and alignment.

map_physical_memory()'s physicalAddress parameter type from void* to
phys_addr_t. This breaks source compatibility, but -- as long as
phys_{addr,size}_t remain 32 bit wide -- keeps binary compatibility with
BeOS.
* Adjusted all code using the affected interfaces (Oh what fun!). Added a few
TODOs in places where the wrong types (e.g. void* for physical addresses
are used). Looks like quite a few drivers aren't 64 bit safe and others
will break with PAE.
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@36960 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
cosnt BString& instead of const char* could potentially save copying the string,
although in most use cases, it will probably ammount to the same thing. It may
provide more flexibility later on, like for example when BString knows its
encoding or something similar. Removed superfluous second version of
AddOnClickRef().
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@36958 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
- No more manual memory management.
- Make it clear who keeps or releases ownership of arguments passed.
- Copy icon, arguments and entry_refs.
- Do not expose implementation details (What do the BLists contain?!).
- BRoster takes const BNotification& and bigtime_t timeout.
* BRoster::Notify():
- Proper error handling.
- Fixed documentation.
* Adjusted notify:
- Renamed fOk to fHasGoodArguments.
- The "const char*" members were really "char*" members (self-managed).
- free() is NULL-safe.
- fRefs contains BEntries, so passing void* to delete does no good.
- Adjustments to the changed API.
- Coding style fixes.
* notification_server:
- Adjustment to the new type for timeout.

#1245. There are some TODOs outlined in the ticket, but they will be much
easier to review as individual patches against trunk, versus as a new version
of the huge patch.
I've messed a lot with src/servers/notification/NotificationsView.cpp in order
to resolve a crash I was getting when testing this thing (rewrote line
wrapping). I've also replaced the icons with the one that zuMi did long ago.
Thanks, plfiorini, for working on this code as much as you did!
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@36949 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
- Added macro __HAIKU_ARCH_BITS specifying the architecture bitness (32/64)
(might be more convenient to use than __HAIKU_ARCH_{32,64}_BIT).
- Added macros __HAIKU_ARCH_PHYSICAL_BITS, __HAIKU_ARCH_PHYSICAL_{32,64}_BIT,
and the types __haiku_phys_[s]addr_t. The intention is to use separate
macros and types for virtual and physical addresses, since for some
architectures (e.g. x86 with PAE) those actually differ.
* sys/types.h, BeBuild.h, SupportDefs.h:
- Added types phys_[s]addr_t and respective printf() format macros.
- Added public macros B_HAIKU_BITS, B_HAIKU_PHYSICAL_BITS,
B_HAIKU_PHYSICAL_{32,64}_BIT.
Might break the build under older Haiku installations. Will test next.

InterfaceDefs.h and corresponding implementation in the app_server. Thanks a
bunch! Closes ticket #5978.
A note to those using "update-all" with hybrid builds - the alternative GCC
system libs will not be updated this way, and this and Wim's last patch
change the libbe <-> app_server interface. You need to manually update the
respective libbe.so, or do a clean build, otherwise apps for the other GCC will
not start anymore.

and looks more like the rest of the API.
* Also, it will now return an appropriate error code if the language couldn't
be allocated (anything else than B_OK is an improvement :-)).
* Several changes in BLanguage:
- GetName() now gets a BString reference, also
- it now returns the name in its own language, ie. for German this would
always be "deutsch", no matter the current language settings, and finally,
- it now empties the string it gets before adding the name.
- added GetTranslatedName() that behaves like the previous version.
- added const where it made sense (ie. almost everywhere).
- Code() now returns the code of the language only.
- ID() now returns the full ID of this language, ie. including country,
variant, and keywords if any.
- added Country(), and Variant().
- renamed IsCountry() to IsCountrySpecific().
- added IsVariant().
* Cleaned up Language.h, minor cleanup in LocaleRoster.cpp.
* Removed the whole move item logic from LanguageListView; while this was not
only spaghetti code, it doesn't make much sense in the first place.
* Instead of removing stuff from the left, and even worse, moving all countries
for a language even if only one had been dragged, we now only mark the items
that are already in the preferred list, and only those.
* Fixed various mixups of FullList*() vs. *() methods that could lead to things
like bug #5896.
* Pressing the delete key in the preferred list view will now remove the
language.
* Moved LocaleWindow specific message constants to LocaleWindow.cpp; Locale.h
is supposed to contain application wide constants.
* The drop logic is now in LocaleWindow.
* We now make sure that each base language can only be in the list once.
* Lots of cleanup, even though I mostly replaced spaghettie code with different
looking spaghettie code - still, I think things have slightly improved.

* Removed irq_routing struct from ACPI.h to where it is used. Might be able to use acrestype.h instead of duplication.
* Disable old embedded controller and remove it from image.
* Move embedded controller code to busmanager module.
* Remove (some) code duplication
Should work as before, but is now initialized right after the bus manager. Can probably remove further code duplication.
I hope I've done it correctly, feedback is most welcome.

* Exposed ACPI API needed by Embedded Controller
This will be removed again if moved inside the bus manager.
It also duplicates ACPI's own headers so it might go out of sync atm.
* Added mutex to controller and fixed the mixup between acpi_status needed in int handlers and Haiku status.
* Major code cleanup
Not for headers as they are mostly redundant if we move the controller.
Variable names still needs some cleanup
This makes the ACPI errors from the controller understandable. I get AE_NO_HARDWARE_RESPONSE now.

BBufferConsumer::BufferReceived() cannot know whom to send the "buffer is
late" notification (unless we only have a single input). To solve this, the
media_header now contains extra fields that can be used to create a
media_source object.
* Unfortunately, BBufferProducer::SendBuffer() cannot know the output either in
case there is more than one. Hence, I deprecated the existing SendBuffer()
call and moved it into "private" - IOW old sources using it won't compile
anymore under Haiku.
* I introduced a new SendBuffer() variant that also gets the media_source as
argument.
* Updated all sources (that are part of the image) to use the new variant.
* Removed some purposely commented out code in the audio mixer.
* Implemented late buffer notification, as well as late buffer handling in the
audio mixer; this is a bit of work in progress, so the debug output is left
in there.
* Some cleanup.

* Introduce a system-wide localization catalog used for strings hidden deep in some libraries. Add special API to get it.
* string_for_size is the first to make use of this system wide catalog. This allows to have a fully localized DriveSetup.

* Added BShape::ArcTo() and BShapeIterator::IterateArcTo(), using a previously
unused virtual slot. (Added the symbols for binary compatibility for GCC2
and GCC4.)
* Added operator=(), operator==() and operator!=() to BShape.
* Added BShape::BezierTo() version taking three points, which is sometimes
more convenient.
* Added the four new shape data ops OP_LARGE_ARC_TO_CW, OP_LARGE_ARC_TO_CCW,
OP_SMALL_ARC_TO_CW and OP_SMALL_ARC_TO_CCW. For a single arc, provided the
radius is large enough, there are four possibilities to draw the arc, these
are controlled by the two boolean flags to ArcTo() and mapped to the new
commands accordingly.
* Some style cleanup in Shape.cpp (sorry for mixing it up, but it gets
worse below...)
* Added ShapeTest to src/tests/servers/app.
* Changed the way BShapes are transformed from view to screen space in the
app_server. For arcs, it would be nontrivial to apply a proper transformation,
it's much easier to let AGG take care of it. This affects ServerPicture as
well.
* Wrapped iterating the BShape into try/catch blocks in ShapeIterator. But
I really don't understand the purpose of the class in the first place.
Maybe it can now be dropped, since coordinates don't have to be transformed
in place anymore.
* Refactored copy&paste shape iteration code in Painter. The transformation
to screen space happens there.
* Since RemoteDrawingEngine needed to be adopted anyway, I also updated
it for the new DrawString() with offsets version. But the client still needs
to be adapted.
* Style cleanup in Painter.h

takes such an id.
* Reused the existing mechanism to to have hardcoded tokens for the system
cursors, i.e. removed cursor_which enumeration from ServerProtocol.h and
used BCursorID where cursor_which was previously used.
* Reworked CursorManager.h and CursorSet.h accordingly and removed some methods
that where intended to replace system cursors with client cursors, since
those would break the reference counting and forget to maintain the cursor
list.
* Replaced the cursors in CursorData.h/cpp with the new ones I just designed.
* Removed HaikuSystemCursor.h and HaikuLogo.h from the source, as those are/were
no longer used.
I hope I will not get too much beating for this one... :-) I know the new
default cursor is slightly larger, but I believe the old one was just too small.
Also I noticed that the cursor may be slightly too dark, at least the old one
seems noticeably brighter when compared side by side (the new one has a slight
gradient). That is something I may correct at least. Otherwise I hope nothing
is broken, I've tested in QEMU and so far everything works as intended.

* Extended BTime, BDate and BDateTime with archiving functionality.
* Adjusted code which uses these classes, since including DateTime.h
already imports the classes from the BPrivate namespace.
* Moved DateTime.h into Support Kit. It is still in the BPrivate namespace,
as I am uncertain what to do with time_type and diff_type. I'd favor
moving the constants into the classes itself. Possibly removing the B_
prefix from them. Feedback welcome.

* Cleanup other parts of the Format API from useless things. They may get reintroduced later if we feel the need to do so.
* AboutSystem now use TimeFormat to display the uptime in properly localized way.

- Some changes in the locale roster to allow instanciating a language
- Locale preflet : use this new API instead of directly calling ICU
Side effect : all languages in Locale window are now displayed in the current locale. It makes more sense as otherwise the list would be unsortable. However it can get annoying if you mistakenly set a strange language as default.

B_USE_BUILTIN_ATOMIC_FUNCTIONS is defined most atomic_*() functions are

* Small coding style cleanups in the .cpp
* When reading raw chunks, keep fCurrentFrame updated anyway
* When decoding frames and chunks, don't change the meaning of fCurrentTime,
it's supposed to be the start time of the next chunk/frame, same as
CurrentFrame(), not the time of the frame/chunk we just decoded/read.
BMediaTrack::CurrentFrame() is actually documented like this in the BeBook,
but CurrentTime() is not. However, when seeking to a specific time, it is
understood that this is the time of the next frame/chunk. If we decode/read
it and set fCurrentTime to the start_time as specified in the media_header,
it would actually not change for the first frame/chunk after seeking.
To be able to know the duration of chunks, fWriterFormat had to be changed
to just fFormat and is now used for decoding as well.
* Simplified handling of media_header in some methods, saves one assignment.
These changes are not so well tested, yet.

look into this now.
* Renamed the MMediaFilesManager to MediaFilesManager.
* Got rid of its Map usage, we're using std::map now instead.
* The media_server is using an unsafe method to transfer areas from the server
to the client. I've changed this for the BMediaFiles API to use Haiku's new
transfer_area() function. However, this seems to cause the above mentioned
problems.
* Improved naming and data exchange structures used for the BMediaFiles API.
* Fixed BMediaFiles leaking its lists.
* Cleanup.

media_addon_server:
* Removed (broken) use of (broken and inefficient) home-brewn Map, and List
classes. This also fixes a crash on shutdown when used with the malloc_debug
implementation. It's using stl::vector, and stl::map now instead.
_shared_buffer_list:
* Renamed _shared_buffer_list to SharedBufferList, and put it into the BPrivate
namespace. Also, made a class out of it.
* Separated shared buffer list creation from cloning.
* Enlarged maximum number of buffers to something that is not that evil, but
actually uses the space it has (ie. is a useful multiple of
shared_buffer_info that fills a multiple of B_PAGE_SIZE as much as possible).
* No longer drops into the debugger if the
* The list that is currently used is very inefficient for the features it
provides though (no change there).
_buffer_id_cache:
* Renamed to BufferCache, and put it into the private namespace
* It now deletes its buffers on deletion; since the BBufferConsumer will be
gone, too, at this point, there is little chance that there are still buffers
in use.
* Also, it's now using std::map instead of the (see above) Map class.
BBuffer:
* Got rid of the fBufferID member.
Misc.:
* Got rid of the global "team" variable; the media kit is now using the
private app kit's current_team() now.
* Added a lot of missing error checks (mostly memory allocations).
* Renamed fields like "flavorid" to flavor_id, renamed "dfi_*" fields to
something more detailed.
* Moved ServerInterface.h from src/servers/media/ to headers/private/media.
* Notifications.h was not self contained.
* Added missing licenses.
* Lots of cleanups, and coding style fixes.
What this doesn't fix:
* Bug #4954 which started all this (this comes next, though)
* Deinitialization is broken, as the PortPool is uninitialized too early, and
still used afterwards.
* The strange add-on monitoring code in the media_addon_server

loader's heap. Unlike the BeBook documents, we always lock their memory,
though.
* Added Haiku extension rtm_available() that returns how much space is left in
a pool.
* I've disabled the undocumented functions for now - please open a bug report
if you encounter them used in applications.
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@34419 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
* Added FSSH_[S]SIZE_MAX to headers/private/fs_shell/fssh_types.h.
* Fixed various 64 bit compiler warnings. Nothing too serious, though.

and types.h. The idea is to provide a basic architecture/compiler
abstraction by defining types and macros that allow the posix/ and os/
headers to be mostly architecture/compiler agnostic.
* Adjusted the posix/ and os/ headers accordingly.
* <SupportDefs.h>: Introduced B_PRI* and B_SCN* macros similar to the PRI*
and SCN* macros defined in <inttypes.h>, just for the BeOS/Haiku [u]int*
types and some POSIX types (e.g. off_t, dev_t, ino_t) that don't have POSIX
macros. Also the B_PRI* and B_SCN* macros are available unconditionally,
unlike the <inttypes.h> macros, which require __STDC_FORMAT_MACROS to be
defined in C++ mode.

BListView::SetFont().

* non-wrapping mode now triggers updating of the data rect for the horizontal

try to get the ABI change detection script working in an automated way).

Net_server starts services by invoking fork() followed by exec(). If the latter
fails (for instance because the service isn't installed), the forked child is
invoking exit(). This in turn unloads libbe, triggering static cleanup code in
BMessage, which deletes a couple of message ports that were inherited from the
parent during the fork. After that, net_server was desparately missing those
ports and no longer worked reliably.
* in InitTerminateLibBe, we now register an atfork-(child-)handler, which
takes care to re-initialize the static reply ports used by BMessage code
* added BMessage::Private::StaticReInitForkedChild wrapper and
BMessage::_StaticReInitForkedChild() implementation which overwrites the
inherited port IDs with a set of own ports

BWindowScreen stopped drawing in time was pure luck (this also caused crashes
with the VESA driver, as that one unmaps its frame buffer during mode switch).
Introduced a new AS_DIRECT_SCREEN_LOCK protocol for this.
* In the long term, we should let BWindowScreen use the same mechanism as
BDirectWindows, though.
* Removed superfluous locking in BDirectWindow::_InitData().

instead just check if the size limits need to be set. The code that previously
did this when processing the B_LAYOUT_WINDOW message was extracted into a
private method, which is called from both places.
This may be slightly wasteful in some cases (since the size limits may be set
multiple times), but it is definitely needed because without it both of the
current test apps (DiskProbe and Screenshot) did not have properly centered
windows.

it has been resized by the layout system, I force the resizing early. If there
is a better way to do this or some way to avoid doing it repeatedly, let me

cleaned up DiskProbe. I will update other code over the next few days (if

might need to be improved over time (also, some things as archivability
aren't fully implemented yet). The ToolTip.h header should get public once

* Remove reduntant information from the header (field_count vs. fields_size).
* Remove checksums previously used to validate the message passing by area
mechanism.
* Move variables that are purely used by the instance out of the header and into
the BMessage object.
* Use more sensible types for the different message fields.
* Reduce some field sizes to realistic values.
* Make size_t values into uint32 values so the message format will not change
when later moving to 64 bits.
* Pack the structures used for flat message storage so it doesn't change
because of padding.
* Fix message passing by area. It never worked because the created area was
never actually filled with any data!
* Some more allocation checks with graceful fallbacks (should be all now).
* Some more checks for negative index values (should also be all now).
* Make printing more inline with how the rest of the class works and make some
of the output more consistent.
* Also add the new unsigned types to PrintToStream() output.
* Fix printing of unknown types and invalid BMessages, it would always have
printed only the first entry respectively the same error.
* Added some clarifying comments.
* Cleanup.

* Improved Encoder API towards what we need for the get_next_encoder() variants
and the BMediaTrack API.
* Implemented the rest of MediaWriter. Still undecided what to make of
AddTrackInfo(). BMediaEncoder has that as well, which hints that this is
something the Encoder needs to support. But it could also be that this is
only possible to support in Writer.
* Wired a lot of previously unimplemented methods in BMediaFile and BMediaTrack
needed for write support. If I have not overlooked anything, only the
parameter stuff is still unimplemented now.
This is all untested, since the FFMpeg Encoder and Writer are still only stubs.

* Reworked the previous device classes to make them ProtocolHandlers handling
their respective input_server <-> driver protocol.
* Implement setting report item data and building/sending reports based on that.
* Remove the old HID parsing code.
This enables us to use all HID devices as we now parse and use the HID
descriptors/reports. Non-boot-porotocol devices should therefore work.
The next step will be to implement a generic input/output framework in userland
that can communicate with a generic protocol handler in usb_hid. This will then
enable applications to make use of all the non-mapped HID stuff directly.

* <x86/arch_debugger.h>: Introduced a structure for the FPU state, so that it

* Removed the _kern_get_thread_cpu_state() syscall. Was originally intended for
bdb compatiblity, but isn't really needed.
* Kernel x86 arch_get_debug_cpu_state(): The use of fnsave was broken, since
it reinits the FPU after saving the state. This resulted in weird results
when debugging functions using the FPU. We now use fxsave, if available.
Otherwise fnsave + frstor should be used -- not fully implemented yet.
Same for arch_set_debug_cpu_state().

* UnlockBuffer(): Removed superfluous "if". Maybe the one who wrote it can have
a look and check whether something else was intended originally.
* _MakeWritable() (both versions): Removed the superfluous ref count increment
and the matching decrements.
* _Resize(): Fixed ref count ASSERT. It would always be triggered when called
from UnlockBuffer(), since the ref count is -1 in that case.
* Clarified some comments.

invoke the layout's InvalidateLayout() anymore. This could cause problems when
the layout caches layout related information and also updates those on calls
other than LayoutView(). A call to such a method after an InvalidateLayout()
would mark the cached info valid and the layout would use the cached info
until the first InvalidateLayout() after the next LayoutView(), even if
BView::InvalidateLayout() had been called again in the meantime.

* Added _MinTabeSize() to BTabView. It makes sure that the BTabView displays
at least two tabs. In the future it should also add the room to display some
buttons for cycling the currently displayed tabs left/right if there is more
than can fit.
* In BTabView::Min/Max/PreferredSize(), use _MinTabSize() to compute the
respective size.
* Improve Tab rendering code so there are no ugly overlaps at the right edge
if the tabs falls directly on the view edge.

* BSplitView uses ControlLook to draw itself.
* Small refactoring in SplitLayout to implement IsAboveSplitter(BPoint).
* BSplitView updates the view cursor when the mouse is above a splitter.
* Standard splitter size is now 6 pixels, which is a bit easer to hit.

window of the view into the application thread. This solves the
race condition with asynchronous SetViewCursor and deleting the
cursor immediately afterwards for real.
* The ServerApp now requires a reference to the current cursor,
just in case...
* Added TODOs for caching the BView token, it's currently resolved
for every single BView call that talks to the server... not good!

* Changed BStringItem::Update() to set a better baseline offset and height;
this should improve vertical text placement.
* Fixed a bug in BStringItem::Update(): it used the owner to determine the

was used, two different threads could decide to share the same mutable string.
* Renamed some functions to make clearer what they do, ie. _Detach() is now
called _MakeWritable().
* Cleaned up some questionable semantics, like the const char* parameter in
_DetachWith() - you can now choose to copy the original string or not with
a boolean. This also makes sure that the string is actually copied when it
has to, which wasn't the case before (but that was no problem with the way
that function was used).
* Made the header compliant with our style guide.
* Further cleanup.
* All BString related unit tests are passed, so I guess I didn't break too
much :-)

the incorrectly shown creation times in Tracker.
* The BStatable::GetStat() solution was not sufficient yet. We still have to
provide the old GetStat() symbol for BNode and BEntry, since those could be
used by old applications/libraries. We also still have to implement the old
GetStat() slots in the derived classes, but don't need to implement it in
the base class (was purely virtual before and is private now).
* The old BStatable::_OhSoStatable1() slot function was not implemented
correctly. Calling the virtual function at the vtable slot obviously results
in an infinite recursion. The correct implementation would make use of the
Perform() method, but Be didn't provide one for BStatable, so we have to use
the old GetStat() method. Fixed#3960.
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@30851 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
replaced by timespec fields. Via macros the structure is still source
compatible with the old one.
* Introduced header <compat/sys/stat.h> that defines the old stat structure
(as stat_beos) and conversion functions
* Introduced versions for [l,f]stat().
* Added symbol versions for BDirectory::GetStatFor() for sake of binary
compatibility.
* BStatable::GetStat(): Renamed the old method, changed its parameter to
stat_beos*, and and made it private. Added a new version (using up a
reserved vtable slot). It remains source and binary compatible.
* BRefFilter::Filter(): Changed the struct stat* parameter to struct stat_beos*
for sake of binary compatibility. This breaks source compatibility, though,
which we can't help, since the class doesn't have reserved vtable slots.
* Fixed several issues with the stat structure change, mostly adjusted uses of
BRefFilter.

* Copied ide_adapter.h as ata_adapter.h in attempt to further
separate the two stacks.
* Continued renaming stuff in drivers/bus/ATA.h
* Make all the busses/ata drivers include the new headers,
specifically ata_types.h, ata_adapter.h and bus/ATA.h,
they were all including ide_types and bus/IDE.h still
* Some renaming of global variables for coding style consistency
* Removed the promise driver from the build, it's not used on the
image and I don't believe it compiled even for the old IDE stack.
* There is no more Command Queueing in the new ATA stack, so I
removed the capability indication from the busses/ata drivers
and ata_adapter.h.
The new ATA stack still boots fine on my computer and I proof-read
the diff like two times. Basically, this was a careful search&replace
job only. The only things I am not sure about is renaming some
publishing related strings, but it seems to all work fine.

kits/shared since i plan to use it in other places like Tracker. Animated replicants like
ActivityMonitor wont stall anymore when initiating the drag. (On the desktop, Tracker's mouse
tracking still busy loops sometimes, that's next on my list).
I had asynchronous long click detection (one button mouse support) in it but decided to get rid of
it, it adds unneeded complexity in the code and is even getting in your way sometimes (ex: now you can
take your time to drag the dragger, you wont be interrupted). If we want to reimplement that
someday it should be done system wide anyway (only Tracker and replicants have that 'feature'
AFAIK).

ported software:
* If the macro B_USE_POSITIVE_POSIX_ERRORS is defined the POSIX error code
constants (ENOMEM, EINTR,...) will have positive values.
* Introduced the macros B_TO_{POSITIVE,NEGATIVE}_ERROR() which do convert a
given error code to a positive/negative value.
* Added static library libposix_error_mapper.a that overrides all POSIX
functions (save the ones I forgot to add :-)) directly meddling with error
codes (having them as parameter or returning them) dealing with the
positive<->negative error code conversions. The functions have hidden
visibility, so they affect only the shared object they are linked into.
* So ideally all one has to do is to build a ported software with
-DB_USE_POSITIVE_POSIX_ERRORS and -lposix_error_mapper and be good with
respect to error code problems.
* Potential issues:
- When mixing ported and Haiku native code, i.e. using Haiku native code in
a ported software or using a ported library in a Haiku native application
care must be taken to convert error codes where the two interface. That's
what the B_TO_{POSITIVE,NEGATIVE}_ERROR() macros are supposed to be used
for.
- A ported static library can obviously not be linked directly against
-lposix_error_mapper. The shared object linking a against the ported static
library has to do that. The previous point applies when that causes mixing
with Haiku native code.
- When dependent ported libraries are used probably all of them should use
the error mapping.
Comments welcome.

It causes the interrupt handler to be inserted at the very end of the list
instead of at the top. It is intended to be used as a workaround when a
interrupt handler cannot know if it actually handled the interrupt. This
should never be used by native drivers. Also if we know that the result is
not valid because of this flag we won't disable the vector in case we count
many unhandled interrupts as those numbers are then unreliable.
* Moved B_NO_LOCK_VECTOR to be a private flag as well.
* Made the interrupt handler list a simple manually maintaned singly linked list
instead of the doubly linked one used with insque and remque as it greatly
simplifies things for such an easy use case and is more compact.

and make it slightly more similar to BTextControl.

overheard that they looked too ninety-ish.
TODO: The code behind this is work in progress. The basic idea
is to extract all drawing code into a new class BControlLook,
of which there is a global instance be_control_look, instantiated
in InterfaceDefs.cpp. At the moment, all the old drawing code is
still there, and the usage of be_control_look is inside if-bodies
checking the instance against NULL. In another words, by not
instanitating be_control_look, you can revert back to the old look.
BControlLook's job is to provide reusable methods for drawing
certain types of frames, backgrounds and labels, so that application
developers can make controls that re-use the same drawing code
as built-in controls and adopt to changes made there. I have added
the notion of "borders". Each of the frame drawing methods can be
made to draw certain borders only, which is supposed to help when
controls shall visually attach. This feature is not fully explored
at all ATM.
TODO: Update BColumnListView header view and BStringItem text
spacing. Update other apps where it makes sense to use BControlLook.
For the moment, only Tracker and LaunchBox are updated. More...
NOTE: The new look is not very radically different, so that existing
apps do not immediately look too ugly or out of place.

Renamed BGradient::color_step to BGradient::ColorStop
as it's called everywhere else. Also renamed BGradient::gradient_type
to just BGradient::Type. Renamed BGradient::Type() to GetType().
* Simplification of method names in Painter.cpp. Some not yet
complete and yet inactive code to accelerate vertical gradients
(bypassing AGG for this special case).

* Remove the previous method of applying the overlay by flags. In the future the
overlay can just be mounted as a filesystem layer. This is probably how layers
were intended to work in the first place.
* Move the filesystem module info and filesystem name from the fs_mount to the
fs_volume structure. Filesystem layering is done by having multiple layered
volumes and we want to be able to have a different fs per layer.
* Adapt VFS code to this move.
* Implement mounting layered filesystems. Specifying multiple filesystems
separated by a colon on mount will cause the layers to be set up and the
corresponding filesystems to be mounted at that layer.
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@29199 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
node. That is needed for a layered filesystem to be able to construct a full
fs_vnode out of a volume/inode pair.
* Adapt places where get_vnode is used. Sadly this is a C API and we can't just
use a default NULL for that argument.
* Introduce a flag B_VNODE_WANTS_OVERLAY_SUB_NODE that can be returned in the
flags field of a fs get_vnode call. A filesystem can use this flag to indicate
that it doesn't support the full set of fs features (attributes, write support)
and it'd like to have unsupported calls emulated by an overlay sub node.
* Add a perliminary overlay filesystem that emulates file attributes using files
on a filesystem where attributes aren't supported. It does currently only
support reading attributes/attribute directories though. All other calls are
just passed through to the super filesystem.
* Adjust places where a HAS_FS_CALL() is taken as a guarantee that the operation
is supported. For the overlay filesystem we may later return a B_UNSUPPORTED,
so make sure that in that case proper fallback options are taken.
* Make the iso9660 filesystem request overlay sub nodes. This can be fine tuned
later to only trigger where there are features on a CD that need emulation
at all.
If you happened to know the attribute file format and location you could build
an iso with read-only attribute support now. Note that this won't be enough to
get a bootable iso-only image as the query and index support is yet missing.

* Replaced the use of offsetof() for structs that aren't PODs. Add a
offset_of_member() macro to util/khash.h because that's what it's used for
in our cases.
* Change the signature of add_debugger_command()/remove_debugger_command() on

* Adding some "suggested" parenthesis. I know that not everyone likes that, but
it pointed out at least one bug that is fixed here as well.

broke everything. If the added item has no chance to calculate it's height,
_RecalcItemTops() won't work of course. Whatever this was supposed to fix,
there has to be a correct way.
* Override BView::SetFont() to update all the items. I remember wanting to
implement this, that's why I refactored a _FontChanged() method, but I
obviousy never did...

it to the stream. This caused Read()/Write() to need two syscalls for nothing
(this only caused the actual stream to share the same position with the

from over 4 minutes to less than 15 seconds...

* TextView.h and PoseView.h are now a little cleaner.
* InterfaceDefs.cpp now deletes gWidthBuffer in _fini_interface_kit_().
* Added binary compatibility support for NetPositive in WidthBuffer.h and .cpp.
Obviously it kind of defeats the purpose of having WidthBuffer neatly tucked
away in the BPrivate namespace, but Haiku should run NetPositive, I guess.

* Renamed _BDeviceAddOn_ to DeviceAddOn, and put it into the BPrivate namespace.
* Moved the DeviceManager functionality into the AddOnManager - this also
solves a locking issue, as BInputServerDevice::Control() was called in the
context of the DeviceManager before.
* The AddOnManager now uses the BPathMonitor to monitor the devices that
BInputServerDevices ask for - this greatly simplifies the code.
* Got rid of TList.h, and use ObjectList.h instead.
* Added PathList class that has a list of paths with reference count, used by
DeviceAddOn and the AddOnManager.
* DeviceAddOn got an actual implementation that lives in InputServerDevice.cpp.
* Added an experimental BInputServerDevice::AddDevices() that could be used
instead of recursing over devices manually. It replaces the functionality
that was found in the DeviceManager before (this was done implicitely for
all monitored devices).
* Greatly cleaned up and simplified the AddOnManager.
* Also fixed lots of potential errors/leaks when things go wrong.
* Removed the extra locker in AddOnManager - its BLooper lock is now used
instead.
* Replaced PRINT()/PRINTERR() macros in the AddOnManager with TRACE(), and
ERROR(), both now use debug_printf().
* Hopefully this fixes the problem that I don't have keyboard under VirtualBox
from time to time.

fixes ticket 1522, 1591, 1946, 2318 and propably more
While creating an BBitmap in BApplication the bitmaps window looper would
be added to the applications gLooperList, thus calling Quit() on that window

offscreen window in CountWindows() and WindowAt().

* Fixed a general problem with respect to overriding of the reserved
virtual function slots: instead of statically invoking the method
that corresponds to the reserved slot on the class that contains the
slot, we now invoke the virtual Perform() method. Perform() then dispatches
the method invocation to the "proper" class, i.e. the highest class in the
hierarchy that actually implements the requested method.
This fixes a crash in apps that use liblayout's MSlider class and
should fix one or other spurious bug with old apps or libraries, too.
* added new header folder 'binary_compatibility' that contains files that
define the method codes and data structures required by Perform()
* looked for and implemented all used reserved virtual slot functions to
invoke Perform() where necessary or to pass on the method call statically
(for slots that were already maintained by Be)

BGradientDiamond, BGradientConic and BGradientRadialFocus
new Interface Kit classes.
* Implemented all the (AGG-based) backend necessary in

* app_server/View can convert a BGradient layout to screen

* Added BGradient methods of the Fill* methods in BView.
* Implemented a test app and added it to the image as a

* Adopted Icon-O-Matic and libs/icon in order to avoid
clashing with the new BGradient class. Re-use some
parts where possible.
Awesome work, Artur! Thanks a lot. Now a more modern
looking GUI has just become much easier to implement! :-)

* In _StealMouseMessage(), don't maintain fLastMouseMovedView, instead,
prevent B_MOUSE_MOVED message from being stolen that are important for
detecting transit changes. The point is that some apps (like Tracker) are
shooting themselves in the foot because they steal mouse messages via
GetMouse() in one place, but then rely on sane transit values in another
place. The way it works now, the view in question may get notified of the
same mouse moved coordinate twice, once via GetMouse() and once via
MouseMoved().

buffer format, the buffer can now also contain other events than just
stack traces. ATM these are only references to the image events
(created/deleted). Therefore we no longer have to flush the profiling
buffer after such an event, since the debugger can exactly match the
samples. Since we couldn't flush when the profiling timer hit while the
thread was in the kernel, that wasn't working that well anyway.
"profile -f" fails to translate stack trace addresses only very rarely,
now.

* Extended the profiling API by an option to record a variable number of
samples per tick. The stack depth is used as a maximum.
* Added new option "-f" to the "profile" tool. When specified it
increments the hit counts of all symbols in the full available caller
stack. I.e. the resulting hit counts will approximate the total time
spent in each function or any function directly or indirectly called
by it. Thus "_start" and "main" will usually get 100% and leaf
functions only what time has actually been spent in them.
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@27699 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
* The class calculates a minimum width now, which is based on the line height,
this may also fix the bug with the small text inputs in the Pe Find window.
* Added TODOs about implementing GetHeightForWidth(), which may be a good idea
when a BTextView is used as non-editable informative text in an interface,
and one wants to make sure that the entire text is shown.
* Replaced the call to _Refresh() in Draw(), which recalculates all the line
breaks for no reason with _DrawLines() again. The TODO mentioned that text
will be drawn without drawing the background first, but maybe this is a
relict from times where Draw() was invoked directly? At least I cannot see
any negative consequences, and this should be much more efficient.
(Other than that, this patch should hopefully have no potential negative
side effects...<crosses fingers>)

buffer during a timer event that interrupted a kernel function: We do
now flush the buffer as soon as it is 70% full, *if* we didn't interrupt
a kernel function. When the buffer runs full and we still haven't hit a
user function, we drop the tick. The number of dropped ticks is recorded
and sent to the debugger with the next update message.
Reverted the previous partial solution (the temporary disabling of
profiling while in debugger support code).
git-svn-id: file:///srv/svn/repos/haiku/haiku/trunk@27658 a95241bf-73f2-0310-859d-f6bbb57e9c96
is created or deleted (or exec*() has been invoked). The counter is
sent with several debugger messages.
* Track the image event counter that is used when samples are added to
the profiling buffer. If the current team counter differs, we flush
the buffer first (sending an update message to the debugger), so that
the debugger has a chance to match the addresses to the correct images.
* Disable profiling for a thread while it runs in the debugger support
code. This fixes potential deadlocks which could occur when a
profiling timer event occurred that would require the buffer to be
flushed while the thread was just sending something to the debugger or
waiting for a command. As it turns out, this is not sufficient either,
since we should never try to flush the buffer when the timer event
occurred in the kernel, since the thread might hold a lock that the
debugger thread could try to acquire. Will implement a more general
solution later.

BTextView classes:
* Declared the directly used BTextView helper classes as private BTextView
classes and changed all affected files.
* Realized that Tracker's BPoseView was (accidentally?) using what used to
be _BWidthBuffer_. It had declared it's own class with the same name and
same members/size in headers/private/tracker/TextViewSupport.h, but the
implementation was nowhere to be found. I can only explain this that
the BTextView implementation was then actually linked and used. But the big
problem was that it was used without locking (unlike in BTextView)! When
many Tracker windows opened during system startup or later and they happened
to each request characters not yet in the cache, I imagine things could have
gone bad and corrupted memory. Anyways, since I can see the usefulness of
the cache, BPoseView uses BTextView::WidthBuffer on purpose now. And I moved
the locking inside BTextView::WidthBuffer::StringWidth().
* Adjusted InterfaceDefs.cpp accordingly.
* TODO: Move subsequent classes into BTextView namespace as well, ie derived
classes that BTextView doesn't directly know about. All stuff in src/kits/
inteface/textview_support/
* Added preliminary and not yet implemented layout friendly BTextView
constructors.
* I will try to handle the insets imposed by BTextView::fTextRect a bit
differently when used inside the new layout management framework. For this,
I added BTextView::SetInsets() and GetInsets(). SetInsets() doesn't do
anything yet.
So far, everything seems to work still... ;-)

be tracked to the kernel, which then counts the hits, an area is
passed to kernel in which the hits are recorded. When the area is
full, the debugger is notified. For some reason that part doesn't work
yet -- the whole system freezes when waiting for a reply.

changed API, but also to prepare tracking of image creation/deletion.

Perhaps a private helper class could be refactored from these two controls
to avoid duplicating a lot of this code, although there are a few subtle

still pretty much work in progress.
* Introduced init_thread_debug_info() which is used instead of
clear_thread_debug_info() when the thread is created. The latter
requires former initialization.
* user_debug_thread_deleted() is now already invoked in thread_exit(),
not in the undertaker.

* The most important fix is that in BMenuField::_ValidateLayoutData(),
divider was calculated, but then never used. If the menu field was not
using the layout management, it should take the existing fDivider into
account, but never did. This caused #2728.
* Added some tracing that helped me debug this.
* Fixed a bunch of layouting inconsistencies. It will also improve some
unnecessary resizing of the menu bar.
Will test all of this some more. But in the test app I do have, the BMenuField
works more like in BeOS now.

* Added BScrollBar::SetOrientation().
* Improved _DrawArrowButton() to have a good visual result even when the
scroll bar does not have the standard width or height.

interfaces, endpoints and generic descriptors.
* Add getter for active interface index and simplify the count operation as
it isn't misused to also get interface descriptors anymore.
* Refactor out some common code into helper functions.
* Adapt the USBKit to the changed/new interface.
* Change how alternate interfaces are exposed by USBKit by providing normal
BUSBInterface objects for alternate interfaces that can easily be examined
and used.
* Make BUSBInterface class aware of its alternate index and use the alternate
aware usb_raw functionallity to build the endpoint and descriptor lists.
* Add ActiveAlternateIndex() to find out what alternate is currently active.
* Style cleanup of the USBKit classes, use std::nothrow everywhere and check
all allocations. Simplify some code by removing optimization where the benefit
is questionable.

for PPC would give compiler errors if this is not defined (to nothing). For
the MetroWerks compiler, one needed to explicitely import/export classes and
methods, but GCC does not need it.

wake vector (not tested at all).
* Removed disabling interrupts when entering the sleep state - looks like
ACPI still needs memory then.
* Cleanup.
