Once change 2342 is in place (running first boot scripts exported from
packages), see https://review.haiku-os.org/c/haiku/+/2342,
remove data/system/boot/post_install/add_catalog_entry_attributes.sh
and related support infrastructure (magic files, launch_roster entries).
The work this script did can in fact be done at image creation time
instead of at first boot.

Do the final installation operations for all the packages in the
/system/packages directory when the OS is booted for the first time.
This will run their post-install scripts, create users, groups and generate
settings files (marked with a package version attribute). Previously we just
ran all the shell scripts found in the /system/boot/post-install directory
(don't do that as much now).
Fixes bug #14382
This patch has simpler code flow in CommitTransactionHandler::_ApplyChanges
Tested on 32 and 64 bit systems. Once it's official, need to remove the
open_ssh redundant post-install script that creates users etc. from HaikuPorts.
Now we can notice bugs like package version attributes on settings files aren't
fully working. :-)
Didn't remove special case for add_catalog_entry_attributes.sh since it
still does stuff that the build system doesn't do. Might be able to add
that script as part of the Haiku.hpkg. See change 3751 for removing it,

Remove the InstallerInitScript (it does nothing) and the
InstallerFinishScript (it does too many things). Instead implement the
finishing directly in Installer. Separate writing the bootsector, so
that the "write bootsector" menu writes only the bootsector.
Fixes#16303
These changes were made to etc/profile by PulkoMandy last year, but he missed
making the change in SetupEnvironment. etc/profile calls SetupEnvironment,
so we can consolidate all this there.
Also clean up some syntax.
The only file in here was Deskbar.h, which just included the "real"
Deskbar.h. Considering nothing in-tree cares about this, and only
a small number of applications at HaikuArchives do, and that Haiku already
broke BeOS source compatibility in lots of other ways, let's just remove
this deprecated cruft.
* The same mechanism (and the same PostInstallScript) is used for this.
* If a file first_login exists in ~/config/settings/boot, the first-login
scripts are launched, and the file removed.
* This fixes adding the deskbar tray icons even when there is no Deskbar
running yet (for example on first boot when the FirstBootPrompt
starts), or, IOW bug #12275.
* find_directory() and hard-coded paths use /boot/system instead of
/boot/common.
* The build system creates the writable directories in /boot/system
instead of /boot/common.
* The build system no longer installs any packages in /boot/common.
The previous name is no longer applicable, as *BootPrompt is now launched on
the first boot of writable medium (e.g., USB thumb drive and hard drives).
Fixes part of #9399.
Notes:
* BootPrompt.rdef may have lost its history.
* The renaming was done with the following command:
git mv src/apps/readonlybootprompt src/apps/firstbootprompt
That file will exist on every read-only media, first boot of writable images
(usb, vmdk), and (if installing directly to partition via the build system or a
mounted image file) hard disk.
The last scenario (of installing directly to hard disk through the build system
or mounted image file) may not be ideal, but it generally tends to be an
advanced installation method. Additionally, it will occur only on first boot.
Fixes#8945.
This adds some of the development packages for x86_64. All of the
DevelopmentBase packages (gcc, make, jam, bison, flex, m4, mkdepend)
have been built and uploaded.
Some preference apps, mount_server and AboutSystem. Removed the check
for x86_64 in the boot script, the normal path through the script will
work now. Also removed a temporary hack to workaround AboutSystem not
being there in build_haiku_image.
The boot script now launches consoled instead if app_server does not
exist, so there is now an interactive Bash prompt! libbe requires ICU,
which is an optional package, so I've built the packages and they've
been uploaded to haiku-files.org (thanks umccullough).
Add notification when mime sniffing files on first boot, at least it gives a visual indication of why so much cpu is consumed.
