* make room in mbstate_t for containing an ICU-converter's state
(well, in fact the whole converter object)
* adjust libroot's locale add-on to clone converters into a given
mbstate_t directly
* adjust ICUThreadLocalStorageValue to contain the converter pointer
instead of a converter-ID (if the converter is related to an
mbstate_t, it points into the mbstate_t).
* adjust users of converters to directly use converter pointers
instead of ICUConverterRef
* drop now unused ICUConverterManager and ICUConverterRef
* update gcc4 optional package
This brings our multibyte implementation into a fully working state,
both non-ascii and non-8-bit characters can now be handled normally
in the Terminal, i.e. this finally fixes#6276.
N.B.: Since the size of mbstate_t has changed, everything (including
the compiler!) needs to be rebuilt.
This allows to use the debug features of the guarded heap also on
allocations made through the object cache API. This is obivously
horrible for performance and uses up huge amounts of memory, so the
initial and grow sizes are adjusted accordingly.
Note that this is a rather simple hack, using the object_cache pointer
to transport the allocation size. The alignment is neglected completely.
This is a very simple heap implementation that allocates memory so that
the end of each allocation always coincides with a page end and is
followed by a guard page which is marked non-present. Out of bounds
access (both read and write) therefore cause a crash (unhandled page
fault).
Note that this allocator is neither speed nor space efficient, indeed it
wastes huge amounts of pages and address space so it is quite easy to
hit limits. It is intended as a pure debug feature.
* instead of in /boot/home/config/settings/be, the compatibility
link has to live directly in the config folder, as otherwise
it doesn't help compatibility-wise at all ;-)
Package management will move the directory from common/etc to
common/settings/etc. The kernel side change that sets up the etc symlink
in the rootfs was already commited, everything still installs into the
old dir however. This symlink makes things that depend on /etc work for
now and can be removed once the files aren't populated to the old place
anymore.
* uncomment the building of libroot_build.a again
* add function remapper to HOST_STATIC_LIBROOT
* drop TODO about the function remapper not working with the static
libroot
Ingo: please review - I think this should work, but I'm not so sure
where HOST_STATIC_LIBROOT should be in the list of libraries of its
only user (<build>bfs_fuse): where it is now or right at the end?
As it is now, the resulting binary still contains references to
host-libc-implementations of close() & others, which are triggered by
the other libs (like libfuse.so). If I put HOST_STATIC_LIBROOT right at
the end, those references are gone, though. But which is correct?
This makes opening symlinks work universally in the build system tools.
Two mechanisms have been implemented, both of which don't always work.
The first is remapping via preprocessor macros. This fails where equally
named methods are used (e.g. STL fstream::open()). The other is using
hidden functions in the new libroot_build_function_remapper.a that is
linked into everything that is linked against libroot_build.so. This one
fails for functions that are defined inline in headers (Linux/glibc does
that). Together they seem to cover our build system needs ATM.
Bring the changes that aren't package management related and the ones
that are but don't take effect as long as they are ignored by the build
system into the master.
Summary of changes:
* Introduce private header <directories.h> with constants for a good
deal of paths that should usually be retrieved via find_directory().
* Replace hard-coded paths by using find_directory() or the
<directories.h> constants (e.g. in drivers and the kernel).
* Add find_directory() constants needed for package management.
* Add __HAIKU_ABI_NAME and B_HAIKU_ABI_NAME macros.
* src/apps/deskbar: BeMenu.* -> DeskbarMenu.*,
DeskBarUtils.* -> DeskbarUtils.*
* Change deskbar menu settings directory from ~/config/be to
~/config/settings/deskbar.
* Other smaller cleanups, changes, and fixes.
* Apparently caused by the fact that we no longer run fixincludes,
math.h is not being generated anymore. I haven't removed the rm
from the script in order to be compatible with older compilers.
As PulkoMandy pointed out on IRC, darwin10 and 11 (10.6 and 10.7) are at least partially 64bit, so
the test only applies there. When darwin12 comes out it'll have to be fixed.
* Resolve TODO: HOST_GCC_BASE_FLAGS should not be included in
HOST_LDFLAGS. Enable adding "-fno-strict-aliasing -fno-tree-vrp"
accordingly.
* Fix handling of HOST_PLATFORM_IS_64_BIT and HAIKU_HOST_USE_32BIT: The
former does now state whether the platform is effectively treated as
64 bit platform, i.e. it actually is 64 bit and the 32 bit mode is
not enforced. HAIKU_HOST_USE_32BIT is now only set when the platform
is actually 64 bit, but 32 bit mode is enforced.
* Map build variables HOST_CPU and HOST_ARCH to x86_64, if it they are
* x86 and
64 bit and define the __x86_64__ C macro instead of __INTEL__ in that
case.
* <OS.h>: Also handle __x86_64__.
* ensure host isn't darwin as Apple doesn't use binutils

ThinkPad X1 and ThinkPad X100e keyboards. The name of these layout files
correspond to the model that introduced them and should cover every US and
international laptop made by IBM and Lenovo except Japanese (and perhaps some
other Asian locale) versions.

superseded by 'ThinkPad International'. Closes#8021

existing 'Apple Aluminium' keyboard layout to 'Apple Aluminium Extended
International.' The 3 new layout files are US mini and extended version
as well as an international mini version. This completes #7964
International corresponds to keyboard layouts for all locales except the US
and Japan. I have Japanese Apple Aluminum keyboard layout files almost
ready but I first need to determine what the special kana and eisu keys
are mapped to.
The Apple Aluminum keyboard layout files are tucked away in an Apple Aluminum
subdirectory. The Keymap preference app has been modified to turn
subdirectories into submenus of the Layout menu.
HaikuImage has been modified to include each keyboard layout file in the
image individually as recommended by Ingo.

* Add optional stack trace capturing for slab memory manager tracing.
* Add allocation tracking for the slab allocator (enabled via
SLAB_ALLOCATION_TRACKING). The allocation tracking requires tracing
with stack traces to be enabled for object caches and/or the memory
manager.
- Add class AllocationTrackingInfo that associates an allocation with
its respective tracing entry. The structure is added to the end of
an allocation done by the memory manager. For the object caches
there's a separate array for each slab.
- Add code range markers to the slab code, so that the first caller
into the slab code can be retrieved from the stack traces.
- Add KDL command "allocations_per_caller" that lists all allocations
summarized by caller.
* Move debug definitions from slab_private.h to slab_debug.h.

By installing the wpa_supplicant one can now join WEP/WPA/WPA2 networks by

Accounts are now stored in a separate file. Previously they where somehow magically assembled from the chain ids. Now its possible to remove a account temporary by removing the account file form the account folder.
Each account could have an inbound protocol, an outbound protocol and some filters.
Mails are now associated with an account and not with a chain. This required to replace the chain id attribute by an account attribute.
Replace BMailFilter and BMailChain by a less general approach. Basically the chain had a list of filters and call the ProcessMailMessage for each filter. This made it sometime difficult to understand what is going on, e.g. sometimes a filter used information gathered by another filters. The new MailProtocol and MailFilter classes are calling more dedicated hook functions, e.g. HeaderFetched or MessageReadyToSend.
As before all MailProtocol's (plus their filters) are running in their own thread.
Cleaned up the error and status window a bit. Abstracted the interface to these windows. Should be easy to write a BNotification api back-end now.
Parsing of mail headers is much faster now. Fetching the headers of a large mailbox takes ~min and not ~hour now! Initial checkout time is in the same order like Opera. The problem was the massive use of fgets in parse_header (mail_util.cpp) now the complete header is read in one go. Furthermore, only interesting fields are extracted.

* Multiple FS shells can run concurrently, since they no longer need a unique

* Killing/aborting the build_haiku_image script will automatically tear down

This makes the print_server
1) resistant to add-on crashes
2) and memory leaks in add-ons
3) license of an add-on cannot influence the
license of the print_server since it does not
directly load the add-on anymore; might be
an issue with GPL printer drivers like Gutenprint
Transport add-ons directly loaded by the print_server

Right now I am not aware that the transport add-ons

FFmpeg. It's a bit sad, but this obsoletes pretty much all other decoder
and reader plugins. Some of them were built on external libraries as well
(AC3 (not part of default image anyway, since it's GPL), APE, MusePack),
so it's not really a big difference to using FFmpeg as external library.
The format matching is greatly simplified by using B_MISC_FORMAT_FAMILY
for everything but raw audio, and the actual FFmpeg CodecID as codec tag.
The downside of this is that the AVFormatReader can no longer be used with
other decoder plugins, but it would be easy to add special cases for native
decoders we wish to support. Obviously the out of the box support for file
formats and decoders has greatly increased with this change, so there has
to be a pretty good reason now for writing a "native" decoder or reader.

of support for these codecs and demuxer in the FFmpeg plugin. The
ogg test streams I downloaded play fine now. For example, Big Buck Bunny
would play without video before and ogg files natively encoded with the
FFmpeg plugin wouldn't play at all. Since the removed plugins were not
maintained and were based on external libs themselves, I didn't see the
point in keeping them.

Matroska support in the FFmpeg plugin. I have a few streams
to test with, most didn't play right with the Matroska reader,
many simply crash. With the FFmpeg matroska support, most files
do play fine. Seeking the audio stream is a problem, in that
the FFmpeg code does not build the index for the audio stream,
and so seeking always falls back to regions of the file that
have already played. The audio will catch up eventually and
playback will be fine again. A minority of files I could test
with don't work right, those seem all to be older files.
Overall, the support for Matroska files has much improved
with this commit. I am still investigating why FFplay has
no trouble seeking in mkv files, while the FFmpeg plugin only
seeks perfectly in video streams. It may be a problem that
the FFmpeg plugin uses completely separate AVFormatContexts
for each stream, which on the other hand allows to seek BMediaTracks
independently from each other and resolves concurrency issues.

* Removed the mp3_reader and mp3_decoder from the image and from
the source tree even. The mpeg123lib based decoder was crashy,
since the lib didn't cope with bad input data too well, whatever
the reason, but bad input can also be a specially crafted file.
I didn't see the value in keeping two decoders around that use
a third party library as backend. While reading in the mp3_decoder
code, I even saw that it used global variables in the mpeg123 lib
to figure out framerate and channel count, after decoding a bit of
input. Obviously this has concurrency issues.
* Removed the mp4_reader from the image. It is native code, and should
perhaps be preferred over imported code, but I don't have the
resources to look into it, and David doesn't seem to have the time
either. There are basically three types of problems with the
native mp4 reader: 1) It is way too CPU intensive. I have many HD
files that don't play at all, since there is not enough time left
for actual decoding. 2) Seeking leaves a lot of visual artifacts
(with the very same decoder plug-in), since there seems something
wrong either with finding true keyframes, or with flushing buffers
correctly. And 3) very often audio stops working at all after
seeking. Sometimes a keyframe is returned for audio which is very
far away from the wanted frame, which currently triggers bad
behavior in the audio producer node in MediaPlayer and can even
crash the media_addon_server. With the ffmpeg based mp4 reader,
none of these problems exist: Seeking is perfect, no artifacts,
CPU load is low enough for pretty much all HD clips I tested with,
and audio always works and is always in perfect sync with the video
after seeking.
If there are regressions after this commit at all (I tested a lot of
files), then I anticipate only that the ffmpeg plugin does not advertise
support for files it could actually handle (i.e. easily fixable). In
those cases hopefully a test stream can be made available. If the
native mp4 reader is improved to the point that it works as well as
the ffmpeg mp4 demuxer, we can easily switch it back, but for now, users
will prefer reliable playback.
