# $NetBSD: 3RDPARTY,v 1.201 2004/03/28 18:02:17 christos Exp $ # # This file contains a list of the software that has been integrated into # NetBSD where we are not the primary maintainer. # # When you make changes to this software, be sure to discuss it with the # maintainer and contribute your patches. Divergence from the official # sources is not desirable, and should be avoided as much as possible. # # When importing, please deal with the RCS IDs in this way: # 1. Preserve the RCS IDs in the files by removing the $ signs from # the IDs before you do the import. # 2. After the import, add NetBSD RCS IDs to all of the files. # # A few notes on the format of this file (for the benefit of # 3dparty2html): # # 1.) Any line whose first non-whitespace character is # is a comment # 2.) Entries are separated by blank lines # 3.) Every package needs at least the following entries: Package, # Version, Current Vers, and Maintainer. # 4.) Where a field has multiple lines of information, the field tag # should be repeated on each line, except: # 5.) The Notes: field tag should appear on a line by itself. All # remaining lines until the end of the record are notes. Package: bind/named Version: 8.3.7 Current Vers: 4.9.11/8.3.7/8.4.2/9.2.3 Maintainer: Paul Vixie Archive Site: ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/bind/ Mailing List: Responsible: vixie, itojun Notes: bind2netbsd script to import into src/dist/bind. The Makefiles in src/usr.sbin/bind are not handled by the script. do not try to use libc resolver from src/usr.sbin/bind, it adds too much constraint between bind and libc, as well as problem with _res declaration differences. DNSSEC portion is disabled. On switching to BIND9: waiting for the release of 9.3.x, as 9.2.x has some issues (A6 queries for glue, for instance). 8.4.3 includes serious bug so do not pull it in. if anything, wait for 8.4.4. Package: bind/resolver Version: 4.9.11 Current Vers: 4.9.11/8.3.7/8.4.2/9.2.3 Maintainer: Paul Vixie Archive Site: ftp://ftp.isc.org/isc/bind/ Mailing List: Responsible: vixie Notes: Mostly imported with cvs import. Makefile's, etc, are not. upgrade to BIND8 resolver can only happen with libc major bump (otherwise it needs too much effort). Reasons: (1) need to support binaries that use BIND4 resolver API (res_init), and need to support BIND8 API. we practically need to maintain both BIND4 _res and BIND8 _res. (2) amount of local changes. nsswitch/nsdispatch need to be reimplemented. do not forget to update gnu/usr.bin/cvs/include/config.h to match gnu/dist/cvs/config.h.in. For libintl, we use BSD-licensed implementation from Citrus project (see entry for "Citrus XPG4DL"). We hope to replace userland tools with BSD-licensed one. 0.11.x introduced new file format with file format revision >= 1, while our BSD-licensed libintl supports revision 0 only. Therefore, we cannot upgrade to 0.11.x until we add support for new file format. IPsec part is based on KAME/NetBSD14 SNAP as of 12 June 2000. Please do not make too many diff-unfriendly changes (like indentation change, KNF police). We need to take diffs across KAME snapshots on upgrades. To identify kernel version, check net.inet6.ip6.kame_version, or KAME_VERSION in sys/netinet6/in6.h. No script is available for upgrades. "KAME" branch is used for kernel merge work purposes. http://www.kame.net/dev/cvsweb.cgi/kame/COVERAGE has functionality comparison among KAME/*BSD, *BSD-current and recent *BSD releases. Beware. Use the src/usr.bin/less/less2netbsd script to prepare source tree for importation. Run ./configure before hand to generate "defines.h". Talk to mrg before importing any new version. (less 381's configure does not detect NetBSD has a sigset_t due to a bad test; this is fixed by hand in defines.h.) Package: libcdk Version: 4.9.9-20000407-myc3 Current Vers: cdk-4.9.10-20000923 Maintainer: mike@vexus.ca Archive Site: http://www.vexus.ca/products/CDK/ Responsible: garbled Notes: Initial port to netbsd curses was done by mycroft. This is a heavily modified version of the released CDK 4.9.9. The current version has been taken over by the Ncurses people, and has a number of changes to it. It might be worthwhile to import at some future date, but for now we should leave it alone. Package: OpenSSH Version: 3.6.1 around 20030403 Current Vers: 3.8 / portable 3.8p1 Maintainer: OpenSSH Archive Site: http://www.openssh.com/ftp.html Mailing List: openssh-unix-announce@mindrot.org Responsible: thorpej, jwise, itojun Notes: imported from OpenBSD usr.bin/ssh (it is not from the portable OpenSSH) into crypto/dist/openssh. use openssh2netbsd before import. local changes (should always try to bring them back to master openssh tree, markus is very cooperative about it): - default for PermitRootLogin is set to "no" - IgnoreRootRhosts added - look at login.conf to check valid user/access list - ssh{,d}_config -> ssh{,d}.conf (can't bring it back) (1.5 branch only) 1.5 branch uses /etc for configuration files, while current/1.6 uses /etc/ssh. http://www.openbsd.org/advisories/ssh_channelalloc.txt is integrated manually to 1.5 branch. version date "20020307" identifies the fix. http://www.openssh.com/txt/preauth.adv is integrated manually to 1.5 branch. version date "20020626" identifies the fix. official openssh releases dropped kerberosIV support already, therefore if we need to keep it we need to maintain it ourselves. Package: OpenSSL Version: 0.9.7d Current Vers: 0.9.7d Maintainer: The OpenSSL Project Archive Site: ftp://ftp.openssl.org/source/ Mailing List: openssl-announce@openssl.org Responsible: mcr, thorpej, itojun, groo Notes: modified internal types to u_int32_t and alike, for non-32bit friendliness. removed #ifdefs in header files so that they do not affect ABI. on RC5/IDEA/MDC2 handling, please see the note from itojun on 9/29/2000, to tech-security. crypto/dist/openssl/openssl-unifdef.pl strips off most of #if in headers (should be done after the import - for some of the past imports done before import by mistake). The 0.9.7d import has brought us inline with OpenSSL w.r.t to strl* and snprintf. There will be far fewer conflicts in the future. Package: pdisk Version: 0.8a2 Current Vers: 0.8a2 Maintainer: Eryk Vershen Archive Site: http://cantaforda.com/cfcl/eryk/linux/pdisk/index.html Mailing List: Responsible: dbj Notes: This is the disk partition utility used by Apple's mkLinux and osX It is imported into dist/pdisk, with a reachover makefile in src/sbin/pdisk builds for macppc and mac68k. Multilink support is missing. Repeated pings to Paulus have not yielded results. I've retrofitted pppdump to use our zlib, and and I now maintain sys-bsd.c. This is clearly a pain. I have not tested the modules code, neither our makefiles make it easy to construct a module, but I left one there as an example. Package: zlib Version: 1.1.4 Current Vers: 1.2.1 Maintainer: Jean-loup Gailly and Mark Adler Archive Site: http://www.gzip.org/zlib/ Mailing List: Responsible: gwr, tron Notes: The sources were integrated into src/lib/libz as usual on *nix, and partially duplicated under src/sys/lib/libz for the kernel. The header zconf.h was "boiled down" to the minimum for *BSD. The Makefile is completely new (*BSD style, of course). Lastly, the file gzio.c was changed to allow -DNO_DEFLATE to eliminate all references to deflate.c and friends, which permits building a really small zcat implementation. (src/distrib/utils/zcat) There are two additional API functions in the NetBSD userland zlib, used by the free NetBSD gzip(1).
