- use an array MAXHOSTNAMELEN+1 size to hold hostnames
...
- ensure hostname from gethostname() is nul-terminated in all cases
- minor KNF
- use MAXHOSTNAMELEN over various other values/defines
- be safe will buffers that hold hostnames
