bouyer b5f3e628a3 If setting to pio mode < 3 fails, try to set pio mode 3 before returning
EIO. The spec says ATAPI devices should support "PIO 3 or better".
They are supposed to support less as well. Setting the device to a highter
mode than the controller shoul'nt be a problem, and this is likely what
happens with legaty ISA controllers.
Solve problem reported by Ruey-Shyang Guo.

jonathan 2bf9a70e67 Endian-ness bugfix for elink3 on big-endian hosts.
Big-endian CPUs should use bus_space_{read,write}_multi_stream methods
to PIO packet data to NIC in 16-bit or 32-bit chunks.
  Make it so.
Since we don't have stream methods on all ports yet (esp. i386), use
the bus_space_{read,write}_multi methods if the compile-time
stream-method feature-test macro is not set.

bouyer 503de51fdd Fix probe code for IDE devices:
- Don't rely on ATA signature: some ide controllers seems to not transmit it
properly (SIMIDE on arm32 machines). Instead, when we guess a drive is here
after reset, just mark it as ATA and OLD is it's not ATAPI.
- at attach time, use IDENTIFY to eliminate ghost from the probe. If the
drive had the old flag and IDENTIFY failed, issue a WDCC_RECAL command
to detect a pre-ATA disk. If IDENTIFY succeded, remove the OLD flag,
  it's obviously not a pre-ATA disk.
- add a new controller flag, WDC_CAPABILITY_PREATA, used to shorcut parts
of the probe (not necessary, but makes the probe/attach faster). This is
only set by the ISA front-end, all other controllers supported can't have
  pre-ATA drives attached.
The mechanism used are more or less the same as before, they have just been
reordered. Should solve port-arm32/7324 (waiting for feedback).

bouyer c2752835f7 Fix a long-standing bug with the ACAP_* flags:
- the cap field is a u_int8_t, so none of the defined flags would fit in.
Looks like nobody had a drive using 16 bytes commands.
- the ACAP_DRQ_* flags are all wrong. Just remove them and use the definitions
from ata/atareg.h, there's no need to duplicate theses. The effect of this
was that we were always polling for the command phase, even for drives
with interrupt DRQ. This didn't break until the code was changed to support
  shared interrupts.

Should fix the lookup problems or 'boot hangs' reported by some users, and
kern/7111.

board versions with no BIOS. Separate mailbox interrupts from
IOCB interrupts. Read OUTMAILBOX5 while RISC_INT is active- not
after you clear it (potential race condition). Clear out older broken
BIG_ENDIAN goop. Don't negotiate narrow/async for LVD busses at startup
if already in LVD mode. Note usage of presumptive 1040C revision. For
all the LIP, PDB Changed, Loop UP/DOWN async events, mark fw state
as unknown as well as marking the need to do a getpdb on targets- after
a LIP for certain the f/w has to do PRLI/PLOGI for all targets again
and marking f/w state as unknown gives us a fighting chance to (start
to) hold up for that to complete.

mycroft 97de30ff26 Several things:
* Rearrange the speed mapping table and adjust the code so that the highest
rate can actually be used. Previously we ended up rounding up slightly
lower speeds and then losing because set_params couldn't set the mode
  back to the current one.
* Allow 260 as a valid I/O address, since the SB1 can be jumpered to this.
* Change the MPU-401 code so it can be attached as a separate device.
(XXX Really, the SB code ought to just attach a subdevice itself.)
* Do not attach an OPL on the SB1. Writing to the OPL registers at
SB_base+0 on this card wedges my machine.
(XXX Should we access it at 388 instead? The Creative web site claims
that this board *does* have an OPL2, but I haven't played with this
  extensively.)
* Allocate the SB DMA channels at open time, rather than attach time, so
that a single DRQ can be used for multiple cards (if only one is in use
  at a given time).
(XXX Let me tell you why this is a horrible hack. If the ISA DMA code
tries to allocate a bounce buffer after boot time, it will generally fail,
because there is no contiguous memory below 16MB and the code to allocate
contiguous pages doesn't know how to move things around. Now, we
shouldn't ever be using bounce buffers here, because we use
isa_dmamem_alloc(). So we just turn off BUS_DMA_ALLOCNOW and we don't
actually try to. That's cool, and it even works, but isa_dmamem_alloc()
has the same problem. It just happens that we allocate the ring buffers
at boot time, and whenever we reallocate them (due to the buffer size
changing), we just deallocated the previous (contiguous) buffer, so we get
lucky. This is absolutely disgusting and needs to be fixed.)

* Fix a potential race condition in the transmit loop. This change has
made the driver significantly more stable (almost completely eliminated

* Implement transmit interrupt pacing.
* Add missing bus_dmamap_sync() calls (on transmit and receive descriptors

thorpej 7b516b31bd Major overhaul of the Rhine/Rhine-II driver, structuring it a little more
like the SMC83C100 EPIC/100 driver:
* Rather than using pointers to the head and tail of the transmit and
receive rings, use wrapping indexes into arrays. This is a little more
obvious when reading the code.
* More cleanly separate the hardware descriptor from the software descriptor.
* bus_dma it everywhere.
* Implement interrupt pacing and avoid a potential race in the transmit
loop.

Now this looks more or less like the Rhine driver I was working on when
this driver was committed :-) Update copyright notice to reflect that.

Use fast memory timing NVRAM parameter. Clean up and fix establishment
of default target parameters. Don't use NVRAM if are flagged as not to
do so (I had a busted NVRAM setup which I couldn't edit that enabled SYNC
mode but disabled disconnect/reconnect and wide!!). Fix delays after
resets. BUS resets not done in isp_init anymore- relegated to OS
specific outer layers. Fix a buglet where you can get in a loop for
a NULL xs in the completion list in isp_intr. Add in some defines that
can disable fast posting. Add in code for Loop Up/Loop Down events that
call into the outer layers as to what to do.

mjacob 6a8ebccd6a Do SCSI Bus resets in this layer (now). Don't do it for Fibre Channel yet
(we get LOOP DOWN events, and we'll hang on that at this time).

Add other isp_async cases- ISPASYNC_LOOP_DOWN and ISPASYNC_LOOP_UP. DOWN
will cause internal queuing until UP, whereupon a timeout will fire up
any pending xfers. It doesn't really keep commands from getting destroyed
by loop down events, but at least minimizes the damage. This was much
easier to implement with CAM.

tls e8690f9bd1 Fix ESS/SB confusion for 1868 and 1869 chips: because isapnpdevs is parsed by an awk script, you *must* comment out each line separately, which is why ess was still trying to attach chips it couldn't cope with. Note that this leaves isapnp ess with no matches -- shouldn't the 188X be in here? Also, add another isapnp PCIC. 1999-02-08 22:10:09 +00:00

0. The old ioctl has been renamed to ODIOCEJECT for binary compatibility.

bouyer 1e0e78854a There's no ATA draft where it is required for the drive to set DRDY | DSC when
the disk is ready to transfer data, and in ATA-5 the DSC has been obsoleted.
So only wait for DRQ to transfer data. This can be made conditional on the
ATA version if it's proven to break with some drives (worked with all the
drives I have access to).
While I'm there correct a few typos.

sommerfe 95ee03319d Change WSDISPLAYBURST from OBUFSIZ-1 to OBUFSIZ*4, for a ~15x
improvement in the "cat /usr/share/misc/termcap" benchmark on 486/75

ttwrite queues data for us in OBUFSIZ chunks. If we only consume
OBUFSIZ-1 bytes per call to wsdisplaystart(), we're *guaranteed* to
fall behind when given maximum-sized reads (which will defer
processing the leftovers until ttrstrt gets called, after a timeout)

Note that OBUFSIZ*4 may be overkill; OBUFSIZ*3 may be sufficient to
get maximal performance; OBUFSIZ*2 resulted in only about a 2.5x
performance improvement, but it's 2am and I've done enough tweaking
for the night.

cgd 04046c6dd7 add code to cope with multiple ports per BAR, as are found, for instance,
on the 8 port card Simon Gerraty has. In general, cards which have
this lots of ports also have a separate interrupt status register, but
this change is just to talk to the various ports independently. It works,
but it's not optimal. (XXX still need a good name for the card in the
comments, and to update the manual page.)

thorpej d95d5b1488 Make this driver work on the Alpha. Apparently the receive DMA mechanism
has the same 4-byte alignment requirement that the transmit side does. This
causes the packet payload to be misaligned. So, on systems which require
strict alignment, we must copy the incoming frame to a new packet buffer,
suitably aligned.
